  1. hello i just upgrade from a loyal to a 91 legacy and had i question. its a 91 2.2 auto sedan and it has 151,000 miles on it. I got from it from an older lady that I dont think took good car of it. anyways i got the car and it drives forward just fine but didnt shift into reverse once it was warmed up. now i got the car and put 3 qts of oil in it and 2.5 quarts of atf to get it to show back up on the stick. anywho now the car goes into reverse from park 3/5 of the time and likes it better when i got from D to reverse...but sometimes it just acts like its in N but i give it a sec and a little gas and it clicks it. my question is is the tranny going out or can i save it with some additives like lucas or maybe a filter and fliud change....it shifts great 1-4 other wise in traffic or going 80 on the hwy....thanks for any help....
  2. so i cant do the work for a week....is the engine going to die if i drive it?
  3. ok before i begin this project is there any special tools that i need or will my metric socket set do?
  4. wow thanks guys for the good advice... I think im going to just take the oil pump and oil pan off and clean it up really good and do all new gaskets with oil pump, oil pan,cam towers.....anymore suggestions on what i should do?
  5. I just got a 87 GL wagon 1.8 carb and it has this really tick that gets louder with the higher rpms...the oil pressure is about 45 psi when i start it. when i drive it on the hwy 55 and up the oil presure go down to like 25-30... when i got home and looked under the car and there oil everywhere looks like its been qleaking somewhere for a long time....so i guess my ? is should i replace the oil pump and seals and go from there......i already put seafoam in it was a little better for 3 min. car has 300,000 miles on it....any help would be nice
  6. thanks alot guys...ive had 4 of these cars and never seen this before....the guy i just got it from said he replaced the cv axles and last week he was at a stop light and tried to put it in gear and go and no FWD....put it in 4WD and has been RWD ever since...:-\
  7. Just a quick question from the newbie....I have a 5 speed MT loyale and was wondering if the front differential is broke or toast.... will the car still drive in 4wd and just be a RWD subbie or wont go anywhere at all....because right now my car FWD aka 2WD doesnt work and i have to drive it in 4wd and then its a RWD subbie...any help ??? thanks alot
  8. So I need some advice on a loyal i just got from a guy at work that has a werid problem. Its a 1990 loyal wagon 4wd 5 speed and when you have the car in FWD and put the car into gear, it just sit there making a grinding noise and wont move. Now when i put the car into 4WD the car will drive but the rear wheels are the only wheels powering it and the grinding is the same except when i turned a corner it got worse....now the guy i got it from said he replaced the cv joints one 3 weeks ago and the other one 4 months ago...also one last detail....when i looked at the cv joint on the passengers side there was a hole that was the size of maybe a nail looked like it been pushed though..this was about a inch away from the differental....so any ideas would be helpful????
