  1. I've recently started rebuilding a ea81, but its been one of those things where you do tear down and a few months later you afford parts.......... My quest for knowledge includes - are there any rubber o rings that go in between the case halves bolts and washers? I know the newer EJ series has a combo sealing washer....I just can't remember... - Secondly how reliable are Ea81 heads after repairing a small crack in the heads between the valves? -Thirdly, feeling about using copper gasket spray for head-gaskets, my block and heads are recently hot-tanked and heads are straight..
  2. http://www.rpmmachine.com/engine-rebuild-kits-subaru.shtml They make it out to be pretty complete....... Is this legit or do i need to keep looking......I'd like pistons as an option in the kit, but not mandatory Its for a 86 EA81
  3. also........ mind you props to (theghost701) for hooking me up with a a motor....Its been easy to pull a part and get werked on.....Thanks for the time and extra effort, not to mention being good to work with John
  4. No......this post is not just about the Jesus...........However incredibly important in any (possibly vain) old school soob thread.......But yes I have aquired a 87 brat and a new motor....... So I'd just like to let the community know that I'm putting one more Brat back on the road in alabama........rust free and matching body panels All hopes hopes and prayers accepted, John
  5. Hey dude do you happen to have any ea81 parts for sale.......I also live in Lower alabama....in mobile specifically

  6. hey im interested how much or what to trade do you want for the motor?

If you manage a comp test I would be most appreciative to it.

    Thanks for your time,

    John Sellers

  7. Hey, you wouldnt happen to know anyone in Alabama that might have a Ea81 for sale of trade ?

    thanks,

    John Sellers

  8. Hey there, I'm trying not to be annoying sir, but I'm kinda getting closer to crunch time for my brat (my problem not yours) and I'd rather circulate some cash in mobile to you as apposed to buying something in another state(honestly its easier for me too) but......I just wanted to make one more attempt, basically to reach you before I try somewhere else.

    Thank you for your time,

    John Sellers

  9. Hey i just completed the spfi swap to a 1985 ea81 the problem im having is spark...i get spark from the coil but not from the disty, the cap and rotor are good but im wondering if theres some wire on the ecu that i need to give power to or supply another ground to. thanx
  10. Well Ive dove into this swap head first got everything done except the wiring harness connected to the igntion and ecu. Im curious how you others have gone about doing it and routing the wyres I was able to run the harness up under the dash through the original hole with NO cutting, just alot of figiting and cursing, Also the way it appears to me the harness and ecu can be ran as a sub-system to the car as leaving the original harness for everything on the dash, lights, gauges, Which leaves only a few wyres to recieve power, ECU>Sensors, Coil>Fuel pump and do all that from the ignition switch with a fuse of course. So if im not mistaken i think this way is a bit simplier, unless im wrong about something post and let me know if im missing something, I'd appreciate it so later on! this is on a ea-81 85 brat im almost done John
  11. Alrighty i got all the vaccum hoses connected and other stuff fitting one of my last questions is did you have to run a fuel return line or is there already one? thanx, john
  12. Hey im doing this swap right now, do you know of any hood clearance problems? also as for modifiing the disty did you cut on of the tabs, if so which one? b/c i was able to keep both tabs and open up the holes to allow tunablilty, then as for cooling what did you do with the line from the bottom of the thermostat housing and the one off the water pump line atop the engine and also the cooling line atop the block as well, an last an not least for now do you have any kind of a vaccum line chart for how you ran your setup ? it looks very clean and nice
  13. Well ive seen many people doing the spfi swap, so i have seen the light I went out to the jy today and practically stole the components maf,air intake pipe, intake and all hoses and sensors, distributor complete body wiring harness, and ecu for 100 bucks So thats my plan for the weekend anything i should look out for or an easier plan of attack for you guys that have already done the swap? so yeah ....let the hating begin.....from non-soob owners of course ill post progress john oh yeah its a spfi conversion on a ea-81
  14. Oh hell yeah you live in nipomo! dude we need to hang out! i live 30 min away from nipomo! 17. I dont see too many people on the board from california, but if your around santa maria, check out nipomo and guadalupe junkyard are hot! Here i found a FACTORY subaru Brush GUARD!!!!!!!! and my friend haggled the ol lady there to let it go for 15 BUCKs!!!!!! My question is what kind of winch was used and is one available or one like it? here a pic of it!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. yeah will smith.......your on track! that what i was thinking just using an longer bolt and the soob hubs ......the spacer is also a good idea subarally!!!!
  19. Ok i had a couple of axle/hub parts off of this honda i was workin on.... So i started to look at the hub.....well i looked as if it had the same offset as the ea82 hub bolts, the ones that hold the rotor to the hub...matched the them up and sure enough they were dead on..(the holes just need to be a 1/4 bigger) Now what i was thinking.....What if you used a stud go thru the rotor and nut on the end to hold the rotor and hub together .....then slide the wheel on and use the same stud to tighten the wheel down..... of course youd have to knock out the existing studs and grind down the little slots on the center .....what do yall think?? john
