  1. Does anyone out there know of any sites that a soob owner can look up the appropriate part for their cars? You know, like the exploded views that the dealers have?
  2. First time I went in Brat blew a 1.65 for the CO in idle mode (1.2 is the limit. This time it was a 0.06! Now for the fun bit; while sitting in the little booth while the "tech" runs the car, I notice coolant flowing out of the Brat. I run over, look at the dash and he has revved it up past 6K! After telling him to shift he says "I thought I had it in 5th." To bad my brat only has 4! Ah, state emplyoees....
  3. I suppose you are funny...in your version of reality. Just Kidding! As far as my brat is concerned, I fixed the exhaust leak, installed new plugs, new PCV and reemed out all the hoses and kicked up the idle just a bit. Didn't find any vacumn leaks, timing was on, air filter clean, and did the oil change last week. I expect to take it back for smogging on Wednesday. If you hear of someone going postal at an emissions station you all know NOTHING! Anonymous
  4. There appears to be a plague. Maybe we should get hold of the CDC in Atlanta.....
  5. I had the same thing happen to my brat. Only thing is I can't find where the hose should go. I don't suppose you could describe the location for both ends? 87 brat with a hitachi carb. By the way, someone told me I have an "aftermarket" cruise on mine. It has the green button on the lower part of the dash and the speed "set" on the steering column.
  6. All good stuff! I was planning on the mimi tune on the morrow. Fortunately I even think I have all the stuff required. Imagine that! Thanks for the input everybody!
  7. For the first time in my history my car, an 87 Brat, failed to pass emissions. The only part that was bad was the CO at idle. I do have a minor leak in the system but does anyone know a good thing to look for before I do a minor tune-up and have it retested? Brian:banghead:
  8. Thanks for the info, Al. Pointing out the repair manual items was a good read. I inspected the hole that the stud dropped out of and it appears to be "intact" and I can still see threads. Hopefully all I will need is the replacement stud. By the way, in what parts store did you find yours studs? Brian
  9. While investigating why my exhaust has gotten a might louder, I discovered to my dismay that I have somewhere along the way dropped one of the studs holding the exhaust pipe to the head. Question: before I have to resort to backing one of the other studs out for comparison, does anyone in the Soobie Universe happen to know what size the stud is, i.e. length, thread, grade, etc? Thanks All, Brian
  10. I am just solicting opinions about crate engines. Are they worth it? I have heard that the engines you get are not quite the same as the domestic versions and may have to be modified, won't take the domestic carbs, etc. Fortunately I am not looking but would just like to hear about experiences, good things, bad things and generally any info any of you may have to offer. Go for it !
