  1. My 85 has been doing the same thing, and it was the electric choke...
  2. Yes! It was just that 14 mm nut. I am now back in business! Thanks guys!
  3. O, and this has been my first few days of driving it in snow. And I would have to say that my GL drives better in the white stuff than my XJ! Loving it!
  4. Sweet... Thanks guys! I will give it a shot in tomorrow. Man, this is why I love this place! (and my subie)
  5. Wiper arm? The snow today caused my passenger side wiper arm to go up, but the driver's side wiper arm stayed down. And now it's limp... doesn't do anything. I can move it up and down with no resistance. It seems like something popped loose or something. I hoping it just a screw I need to tighten, but it's too stinkin cold to look at it right now. This is really a pain when it's snowing like crazy... So... how hard is it to find a replacement wiper arm for an 85 GL? I hope it's not as hard as everything else, because I can't see in the snow! Thanks Guys!
  6. Congrats! I have been watching this thread closely, I will be getting my Weber on in the next few weeks. (excited as a little school girl) I am SO hoping mine does the same for my engine! Cheers
  7. Thanks for the input everyone. After a lot of thought and research, I am just going to go with a weber. There's was just too many "i am not sures" that left me kinda of scare to venture into such a project. Seems like the weber is alot less of a hassle. And I just want a car that runs ASAP. Shawn is going to get me hookup with a weber. Thanks Shawn!
  8. So... I have been tossing around either doing a weber or a SPFI conversion on my 1985 GL carbed 4wd single range wagon with a 1.8 in it. I am a jeep guy and clueless about subies, but thanks to this board learning a lot about subies the last few weeks. Still clueless though... Anyway, I am a little confused about the wagon years and engines... So they made the GLs for like 10 years or so, but do the 85-86 wagons have a different engine than the rest? Was the 85-86s a EA82s, and the rest EA81s? They only made them for two years? And if this is correct when looking at putting a weber or SPFI conversion will the same stuff work on the EA82s? Which is what I think have? Did they ever make any fuel injected 85s? or was that just the GL-10s? I have also been reading the manuals from GD (which are awesome) and other by Voodoo (?) about the SPFI conversion. And ones says to make sure the donor car for the SPFI conversion has the same trans as the car you are putting it into. It's this a deal breaker? Sorry so long, but the rookie is confused, and needs good answers, because my Jeep is KILLING me in gas (and it's looks like it's going to get worse). I need to get this subie on the road! Thanks guys for your time!
  9. ummmmmmm no. both junk. just like the junk that is on there now. thinking about a SPFI conversion now. i think i can get all the parts, but don't have a clue how to do, even with instructions. So Shawn, I will giving you a call tomorrow.
  10. Hey guys... I have a jeep so I know all the common places to rust proof on my jeep to give the body a "long life", but not "very up to speed" on where to rust proof my 85 GL? I have some bed liner stuff that have left over from my jeep that I am wanting to use on my GL before the warm weather goes away again. I am doing the normal places around the wheel welds, but where else do you think would be a good place to hit that is known for rust on a GL? I heard they are usually rust buckets... Thanks
  11. Thanks man, but you won't believe this... My mechanic buddy found two carbs at Loveland Auto Savalge today. We are going to see if we can get one to work tomorrow. 50 bucks for both of them! But hey, thanks for all your help! I will for sure be hitting you up next time I need something for my subie. Cheers
  12. You are right... I checked it and the fuse is good. So I have been looking for just the electric choke. Impossible to find (so far). I have been told that I have to buy a whole carb if I want the choke. ? :-\ So I figured if I have to do that, might as well bite the bullet and go all the way with it.
  13. Thanks... WoW a lot cool stuff on here. I am hooked! And it looks like i'll be putting on a weber carb! Cheers
  14. Hey man,

Yup. I did buy it. 400 bucks! I guess I don't know my own number...

  15. Hey,

    Yup, still has carb issues.

  16. Hey man want sizes tire are running on that blue GL with black rims? They are sweet...

  17. Howdy Everyone, I just pick my 85 GL wagon two weeks ago, and still trying to get it on the road, but still excited to get a classic subie. It's got 112,000 miles on it, and runs good, once you take the 15 minutes to get it started in morning. After it starts, and warms up it runs great! So here I am trying to figure it out as I go along. I am so glad I found you guys. Any ideas? Thank you for your time!
  18. Hey man. I am here in Fort Collins, and bought an 85 GL wagon two weeks ago. They were also asking 850, it seems to be the asking price on GLs right now. I looked for about a month until I finally decided to make an offer on one. So I got some cash together, and offer the guy 400 bucks on the spot. He took it! So 850 seems high to me. There's other GL wagon on the FOCO craigslist for 750 right now. I think it's a 87? It's been on there for about 2 months, and the price has went from 1200 to just 750 last week. You might want to take a look. My GL is a 85 with 112,000 miles on it. That 87 looks pretty good too, but it has 200,000 on it. Anyway, good luck. I bet you could get it for 500 bucks easy...
  19. So I picked up a sweet 85 GL last week for 400 bucks! It has 112,000 miles on it, and no rust. I thought it was a steal... Anyway, it runs great after I spend 15 minutes getting it started... I have to spray starter fluid into the carb to bring the beast alive. But after it's warm, it runs like a champ. I believe it needs a "new" carb, but I can't seem to find anyone anywhere that can get them, and I haven't found one in a salvage yard. What am I looking for? What models and years can I get parts from? GLs, Brats, Loyale, Early Legacys? It's a carb 1.8 non turbo, auto 3 speed. Could someone give me some insight? I searched google, but now I am even more confused. Thanks Everyone!
