  1. Well I flushed the rad and did the themo. Ran it up to Dacono from Fort Collins on I-25 and everything seems to be fine. It never even got to the half way point, more like just a quarter. Thank goodness... I hope the subie keeps kicking it for many miles to come! Thanks guys for the all the great input as usual!
  2. Thanks everyone. I will try the themo and then the rad. I'll let you now how it turns out.
  3. So here's the deal. 85 GL auto EA82. Drives great and runs great. When kept under 4k rpms runs normal temps. You can drive 55-60 for 8 hours and no problems. But if you are I-25 cruising 70, it starts running hot (pass the middle by not in the red, but almost). This is even when blasting the heater. It has never when into the red but I have drove it for hours with it close to the red because I had to. It's doesn't leak a drop of anything? I had a complete tune up this year; plugs, wires, cap, timing belt, everything. The only thing that is not stock has been the weber I put on last year. Replacing the themo tomorrow, but what else could I check while I screwing with it tomorrow? This needs to get fixed because I don't what to crack a head or screw something major... I love my subie! Thanks in advance! PS- coolant and oil levels normal... ?
  4. wow... either I don't know what it's called or no ones know about it, and I am screwed... crap
  5. So I got a rear carrier bearing that needs replaced. A couple of questions... -How much can a expect to pay for one? -How much labor is involved in removing it? -Where can I get one in Northern Colorado? -Can I just take it off and just lose 4wd until I get the money for it. Can I drive -the car without it? I haven't looked at what it does yet... Thanks everyone!
  6. That's a great idea! Because it would be a pain to get to them again... Thanks
  7. Ok guys. That's all I needed. I want my subie to last, so I will getter done ASAP. Thanks for the input!
  8. So I am leaking coolant out of my water pump. I think the bearings are going bad. It leaks about a 5 by 5 spot about every time I park it now, and it seems to be getting a little worse every week. It is not making any bad sounds, or anything, yet... I store my car (85 GL Wagon 4wd) during the months of May, June, July, and August because I drive my Jeep during the summer. So can this wait until next Sept? I drive it everyday from Foco to Loveland for work (about 20-25 minutes each way) at highway speed. So I got about a month until I park it... is this a big deal, or can I wait? Thank you for your thoughts!
  9. Cool. I will give it a shot, and let you know how it shakes out. I am getting about 20-24 mpg right now, so I am hoping to get more. It's an auto trans, so that's part of my problem I think. Thanks
  10. So my 85 wagon may run better with Ethanol Free gas? is that what I am hearing? It will not screw up anything?
  11. Heck... I will say something. I bought my 85 GL wagon with 112,000 mile on it two months ago for 400 bucks! I am so glad I did. Great car! I getting 25 mpg in that little beast. It's alot better that 10 mpg in my jeep. So yes, I would jump all over that for 500 if she runs! Good luck!
  12. Thanks Bratman. Yes they were unopened. Put 2 quarters oil, then STP, then top it off with oil. It purrs really nice now.
  13. So I guess it's not a big deal... 8 views no replies. That's cool, I will do it then...
  14. I am pretty much broke (no money), but need to do a oil change in my GL, because I put too much in last time (5 quarters). I found some old oil in storage, and I was wondering if oil is ever TOO old to put into a vehicle? It's about 2 years old, and it looks normal to me... I plan on putting 3 quarters of oil in with a quart of STP. What ya think? Thanks!
  15. Yes, I did the weber. And it ROCKS! So much more pull then the crapicthi. You are right it really makes you want to hit the pedal alot more, if you are not careful. Thanks

  17. It will pass. My 85 GL that's carb (stock) just passed with no problem. You'll be fine. That was before I had a weber put on though, but I am good for other 2 years at least! Good luck with the move!
  18. I just post my pictures on facebook (photobucket works good too) without publishing them, then just copy the "image URL". Click the "insert image" icon right under the undo arrows. Then copy the URL in there. It usually will give the option after you right click the picture you want. Here's my other ride...
  19. It is working great! It climbed up to 3000 rpms this morning for about 5 minutes, and then when back down on it's own. Pure joy! It's amazing what a tiny piece of tape duct tape can do! It's was getting hung up on a little brass piece on the choke. Here's some pictures: Okay this is my setup see the little brass piece it was getting hung up on see the tape i put in there to solve the problem (redneck style points) Thanks for all the help guys! I am loving the way it drives now. I will have to post some better pictures of the GL, since it feels like a new car to me now!
  20. Suberule thanks for all the info! I believe it's fixed... and yes it was the linkage. (Please excuse me for my incorrect names for things). Where the throttle wire comes out of the tube thingy and connects to the choke (?). On the end of the throttle wire it ends in a T (like a hammer) where it sticks out each side of the bracket it's on. Well one side of the "hammer" was stick out to far, and getting hung up on the part of the choke because it was so close. So I stuck a small piece of good old duct tape in there to keep it from sticking out so far. And like magic no more high idle while driving! This Weber was from an old toyota, so I think it was sticking out because the hole had rounded out... That is as clear as mud I am sure. I will try to post so pictures of what I talking about tomorrow. The real test will come tomorrow at 5 am when I head to work. We see if everything is good to go! I will let you know. Thanks everyone!
  21. Other Colorado member Woo hoo! Welcome to the addiction...
  22. Tried all the adjusting didn't help... Suberule- That's sound like it is it... So it's suppose to adjust back down to normal idle speed by itself? I didn't know that. I will look at the linkage closer. Thanks! I have also found that as long as I stay below 35 mph, it stays at normal idle speed. But as soon as I got faster than that (45-55) it seems stuck racing at 4000 rpm... the rest of the time until I put it in neutral and hit the pedal to bring it back down. Suberfox- and yes you'll be the first to know the answer...
  23. I had weber carb put on last weekend, and it ran great in warm weather, but not so great in the cold weather we have gotten today. The choke is out of whack. It starts great in the morning, and adjust down to 1000 RPM once I hit the pedal. The problem starts that as I drive it, the choke then seems like it adjust again? At stop lights I can barely hold it back, because it idles at 2000 RPM! Then if I put in neutral is races up to 4000 RPM, but once I hit the pedal it goes back down to 1000, until I put in drive again... then the problem starts again. It will cruise 35 mph without me even putting my foot on the pedal! This is killing my gas mileage, and I don't know how to adjust anything... Anyone is the Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Colorado area that could help? Anyone know of a "adjusting weber carbs for dummies" guide? Thanks guys for your time!
