  1. Recently did a frankenmotor with 220 cams in it. Using HLA's. The motor keeps going through them. Oil pressure drops when I accelerate as well and than rises to normal again. Could this be due to a couple collapsed lifters?
  2. Better question would really be. How many times do you want to have to do it over? Spend the 30 extra on the OEM gasket. And be done with it. Piece of mind.
  3. I am putting a 96 OB Transmission in my 96 Legacy L Sedan. The rest of the parts (linkage, crossmember etc) are from a 95 Legacy. Having a tough time finding bushings. I know the kartboy front bushings work. My question is the rear STAY bushings (TiC claims 97+). Also I am curious about crossmember bushings. From what I can see in pictures they don't seem different from 95 and 97 Legacy's. Which TiC claims these are 97+ only.
  4. No one has replaced their fugly wheel before?
  5. Just got an 02 wrx wheel for my 96 legacy. I know that the airbag plugs changed in 97ish. Was hoping to just splice into my current harness to make the airbag work. Has anyone done this succesfully?
  6. Still waiting for mine to get back to Ricks. Sadly I am about to be headerless as I just sold my current one.
  7. Unless they decide to break on you. And get stuck in the center console. Also doesn't make them fun when you put WRX seats in and the bottom belt is lodge between the seat and door. Have to fiddle around to get the damn thing so you can buckle up fully.
  8. No. What I have read is the only motor that you need to extend the EGR tube on is the 2.5 motors. For the 2.2 it drops right in. But also this isn't for my car. It's for the girlfriends 92.
  9. I believe the EGR tube is only on the 2.5 motors. At least that is what people on SL-I.net say and Grimmspeed. About the Ebay Timing belt kit. GD told me either Mizumoauto or Theimportexports.
  10. Been talking to GD lately but he seems to be a fairly busy person. He is going to be doing most of the work for me in a couple weeks. Here is my current list. This is my list so far. I probably missed something. OEM Parts: Head Gaskets Cam Seals Front (and rear?) Intake Manifold Gaskets Exhaust Manifold Gaskets Thermostat + Gasket Other Parts: Fel Pro Vavle Cover Gaskets Ebay Timing Belt Kit (Mizumoauto) 220 Cams Grimmspeed Phenolic Spacers (8mm) NGX Plugs and Wires
  11. I get discounts at the local Subaru dealership near me. HG's are 38 a piece for OEM. Cam seals are $4 and some change. Ebay timing belt kit with water pump is around $116. So I won't be into it all that much.
  12. Yeah I am actually one of the few who have "Supers Single Port UEL SS headers" from RS25.com. I know how difficult it is to find a single port header. Sent you a PM.
  13. The girlfriends 92 Legacy N/A EJ22 decided to pop headgaskets. It's at 205k. So I want to just swap a lower mileage motor in. Can I use any 90-98 EJ22 Long block and reuse the sensors and Intake Manifold from her current engine? I know the newer Ej22's have the EGR port on the heads (I believe?) so I would just block it off.
  14. I run 17.1's STOCK in my 2.2 with the automatic. I also live 150-300 feet above sea level here. If the 2.5 hybrid won't shave on a second in the 1/4 that is pretty sad. I got friends here with cammed 2.5's full exhaust and running 15.4-15.8. It seems you're in portland too. From my understanding a stock 2.5 5 speed can run low 16's. I am not sure how 200chp 2.5/2.2 build wont get into the 15's.
  15. Who knows. So just curious. I want to be in the 11 compression ratio. 10:5 seems to be what stock 2.5s are. Hoping this frakenmotor build will put me in the 15's at least at the drags.
  16. Now I see it. A guy on SL-I.net is using a cosmetic gasket and is getting a compression ratio of 12:1.
  17. I would be using a 97-99 EJ25D Block. I thought EJ251's are the SOHC motors. Any ratio numbers for the DOHC 2.5? Also what kind of CHP do you think it'd be putting out? Full headerback, Intake, MSD Coil and cams.
  18. So the OEM EJ25D gasket is thick enough so it doesnt hit the valves? What kind of compression will it give? 11:x:x or 12:x:x.
  19. I would have to read up on the conversion of swapping the rockers. I like the HLA's because I don't have to mess with them. They told me the 200 grind is a torque grind.
  20. So using the OEM EJ25D Headgaskets won't have any problems with cooling passages on the heads? Thats why I thought people used the Cosmetic Special Order gaskets. And sorry for my ignorance. "RV Torque Grind"? Since my 96 heads are mashed up year I have Roller Rockers and HLA's in my 2.2 heads. So I was told by Delta that I have to use the 200 grind.
  21. Okay so did a little more research. And you pretty much nailed what I was looking for. I am looking at around $750-800 to do this build. My question is what head gasket to get? I know cosmetic is where to get them from. I will have Delta Cams regrind some 2.2 cams for me. Here's the sad thing I have the automatic. 4.11 gears. It has been maintained with Amsoil ATF. Also what would you say your cars 0-60 time is with the Frakenmotor. Ever ran it in the 1/4th? Thanks
  22. Because you are taking things out of context. Nothing new with the education system these days. Basically implying that from what I have heard from a few people. Is that what is the point of taking the two worst parts of each engine and combing them. This is why I was a little offset on what choice to make. Based on hearsay. So I was asking what are people making with the Frakenmotor. And what mods they are using. I have heard good and bad results. The bad results are probably from someone not doing it right. I am just throwing questions around. If you had to choose, what would you do?
  23. Well I am here to be enlightend. Cobb even had a flow bench that paired the EJ22 heads to other USDM heads. SO that is how I am basing my information. I am going to just go with a 2.5 and cams. WHICH will beat a 2.5/2.2 build with cams. I have seen dynos on SL-I.net with Frakenmotor builds. They don't flow up top. Although the guys I have talked to claim it is a fun build and the gains are worth it. I am just looking at what my options are here. Or if I should get a 2.5 and cam it and move on. I have even talked to Rallitek and PRE about my original build of the 2.2. Which included a throttle body spacer, LW Pulley, IM spacers, Cams, full header back and an Intake. They claimed that the limiting factor is the heads in the engine and even port and polish won't give that many gains. An expensive port and polish on the 2.2 heads will barely come close to the stock 2.5 heads. This is what I have heard from Delta Cams AND Cobb. Not trying to come off as an rump roast. But I have been around for a few years with these cars and have done quite a bit of research. Cars are not cheap and I didn't want to dump money to the 2.2 if it wasn't gonna be much faster with the mods I had planned. Maybe I do need to learn a little more. What WHP and WTQ numbers are the frakenmotors doing? I already know the 2.2 is bulletproof.
