  1. Well, I must say, you all have been very helpful. Thanks to my new Subaru friends!
  2. Boy wouldn't my car be the ultimate sleeper with that new turbo? Trust me if there is a problem with it, I'll be all over it. Any future problems will be dealt with appropriately. I can be quite persistent and a pain in the rump roast about something if I'm really pissed. Stay tuned.
  3. Hey all, Anyone artistic enough to design a front license plate with the Subaru rally team logo on it? I'm thinking the plate would be Rally Blue with the yellow logo. I WILL BUY ONE!!!! Although I should get it free for the idea! Any other takers?
  4. Just for an update...called the dealership and my car is going in next Thursday for an "exam." The service manager DID acknowledge that there was a problem in the past with certain 2.5's up to a certain cut off date. Maybe I'll need a new engine and they can drop a new turbo 2.5 in its place?
  5. For anyone owning a 3rd generation Legacy (2000 to 2004), I can smell coolant when my car gets hot (I have 21K on it). I have brought it to the dealer and also to the mechanic that fixed my old Subie when it was out of warranty. No one else smells it, but the dealer said I could STILL be smelling undercoating burning off. I think they are full of crap. Anyone else experience similar?
  6. I'm almost positive that you have a 15.9 gallon tank. One problem you may be having is with the sensors in the tank. I had a problem with the gauge once in my '95 and I was told that there are actually two separate sensors because the tank is split by the AWD shaft (one on each side). Don't know for sure...
  7. That may be for the 5 speed...brochures aren't specific to one vehicle. I may be wrong, though (it's happened before!)
  8. Are you sure about the power transfer to the rear??? Never heard of that much to the rear in an auto. Your '98 L probably has 90/10 split (as I think the '03 GT does as well). L series w/o limited slip only send power front to back, where the limited slip in your mom's will go side to side as well. Have an '03 Special Edition Sedan myself. Love the car, but that is the big difference between your mom's car and mine...the limited slip.
  9. Also use McGuire's...really beads well and protects a long time. Nice shine.
  10. As far as gas goes, 5 speed all wheel drives operate 50/50 power distribution, with a fluid in the rear that will thicken with wheel spin and lock in the other wheel. It won't have much different gas milage than an auto (2 or 3 mpg more). Automatics work 90/10 until slippage is sensed, then can be up to 50/50. My automatic '95 AWD sedan was averaging about 22 mpg with 125K on it. As far as it being on E, there is a reserve of about 3 gallons left when the light comes on (if the low fuel light still works).
  11. Hey all... New to this site, just wanted to have a place for Subie lovers in PA to chat and keep in touch with each other. Would also like to brainstorm about how we can get more events in the state, like maybe an SCCA Pro Rally in the western part of PA (where I am). Would enjoy some rally-cross action too around here. Anyone else interested? Post here. Can also be reached via e-mail at mark_nuz@yahoo.com. Let's hear from YOU now.
  12. Doesn't that have the height adjustable suspension also? I sold Subarus when that was new and I think that was the one that had it. They had special editions that year...GT wagon, Alpine wagon, and another that was front-wheel drive and had a sunroof (think it was called Sunsport).
  13. I had a 95 Legacy 2.2 liter and around 105K is when I had the front seal replaced on my car. It is also a good time to do the timing belt (if you haven't yet) because they have to take that part of the engine apart anyway. You won't have to pay for labor twice (if someone else does it).
  14. The AC turns on with the defroster to ensure that it doesn't build up mold over the winter months. You don't use your AC over the winter, so it would get moldy. By running the AC compressor when you have the defrost on, it keeps it cleaner/fresher. BTW, under hard acceleration the AC will turn off. It is designed to do that. Just make it down shift hard. I sold Subies for 2 years and own my second one. The first one I had for 9 years (it was a '95 Legacy). That's how they worked then and my '03 Special Edition Sedan does the same thing.
