  1. The only thing I have done in the last few days at home is start the brat up once a week and I got to cut the last of the rust out on the inside of the cab. The drivers pan is going slow for now at work. Yes that is RTV you see on the e-brake cable. I did not know it was there and nipped the housing a tinny bit, I am pretty good about checking stuff.
  2. Well I hate to say it I felt maybe I did start to loose it but I need to stay the course. I will have to see how I feel after I get all the rust done and the fenders back on.
  3. So its been about 3 weeks or so. I got the cross brace and brackets done. I still need to clean them and I have not figured what to do for a coating yet. Its not perfect but its stronger than the stock metal. Once I get it welded in it will be really good. Before rust ate away at least 25 percent. After before after One thing I thought was interesting was I had a rust hole in the side of the drives kick panel I think its called. You can see it in the top next to the door sill . Could not have that so I cut the spot out fearing the worst of it full of rust on the inside. NO rot So I will patch that up and call it good. I am starting on the drivers pan next. That should be fun:brow: Oh also ground and cleaned up the spot welds for prep. I still have to hit the whole thing with the hd wire wheel brush, but I am going to do that after I am ready to put the pan in.
  4. I got some time to cut the other side out. I also have one side of the cross brace rebuilt. There are 4 sides to be fixed so I got one done. Now I know what the heck I am doing it should go little bit faster. I am only spending 1/2hr a day on metal fab. Too bad I did not have more time then you guys could see some stuff get done instead of holes
  5. I have spot weld drill so yeah I could do that. I am currently collecting 16g sheets at work. I am also trying to figure out a way to sneek my pans though fab on cnc puch bead roller. I might just end up doing it by hand which will take longer but it all depends on how I feel. I really want to get the motor pulled before winter hits so I can work on the engine bay. I am working on the seat mounts right now. putting in about 45min a day at work on my breaks. It will get done. This is the biggest rust repair on the brat. :-\
  6. Well I got tired of looking at it for a week and figured it would be better to repair it out of the car rather than in. Which there are two options put a whole new sheet of metal and not worry about how it looks and make it work. Or I can take the original and fix it and put it back in. What you guys think. I can shear some 16 ga and put it in and fix the cross brace and weld it in. Have to see what I want to do as you will never see it. What you guys think?
  7. That is the plan, I just finished pulling almost all the tar paper off. It looks like I will have to pull the dash next and after that fish up and paint thinner off the rest. Yeah all is in the plan except the sand blaster. My kids are helping with the scraping and cleaning so its been fun.
  8. Nope no sand blaster. I am kind of limited of what I can do with that kind of stuff. If I could dip the whole car I would.
  9. The kids were helping out , not much but it was still fun. I got it out faster than I thought. I will be working on this at work during my lunch breaks, got it approved and my boss asked me if I wanted to powder coat it. LOL Trying to think of how I am going patch the Swiss cheese Pass side is kinda bad too Looks like a lot of work. Lotso rust One thing I noticed is this must be like 18g material its super thin and light. I will have to check and see how thick it is when I get to work.
  10. I just picked up a spot weld drill so this is going to take some time but will keep you guys up dated
  11. Well I am open to suggestions, that is the only way I can think of doing this.
  12. Well, It looks like I am going to have to take out the the seat cross brace and the channels under the pan. It would be nice to just plop an new one in, not an option. It looks like I will do some patch work. Going to order a spot weld drill. cross brace is rusted just like the other side same gaping hole on the end just like the drives side another shot of the cross brace
  13. parts cars are not an option with the wife. I am lucky to just have a project after the 10 years of the race car. I am not complaining I am just saying that its more than I thought. No matter though. I am thinking this through again might cut the whole section out and take it to work and fix it all then just weld the whole thing in again. The pass side is not too bad for some reason but it has not met the 2.5lb hammer. When I get to the other side then will have to see which way to go.
  14. Yeah I don't think that is my biggest worries. Carpets are good little cleaning up no rips just really dirty. Tools of the trade 2.5 hammer and paint scraper. This is how I find out if the metal is good or not. Yeah its the flints stones almost. I was lucky to get the bolt out. lots of holes. well I think what I am going to do is take the center brace out. Going to drill out all the spot welds with a spot weld drill bit. I will take it to work and rebuild it on my lunch breaks. I am almost thinking this is way over my head.:Flame:zzz Anyone every got this deep in? LOL
  15. Yeah I am thinking of pulling the interior but I don't want to get to deep just yet. Come to think of it, it prob a good idea to pull the carpet along with the seats.zzz
  16. I tell you if that foam thing was not in there the frame would not have rusted Bit o rus going to fix that. Thats not bad its just fall out from the battery area. Going to fab up a 90 deg bend and cut that out and clean it up before put the new patch in though. Over all not too bad. The cancer where the fender was I had pics of but got del but I have to replace with some 16 ga metal. Prob tack it in and grind it off and then por15 everything. The biggest problem is getting rid of the rust and neutralize it. This will be good exp for my next project. More updates to come seems the wife is ok with how much time I have put into this. My oldest daughter is loving it too, cleaning and vac the rust up. Got a spread sheet on Google docs to track the cost and expenses too. Ok found them and took a few more of the problem areas.
  17. This is a short term project. I do have my eye open for another one. This is to keep me busy for the time being. Wen I do get serious with the rust the ice pick will come out. ok maybe just the screw driver. Thel wire wheel and the flapper wheel will be my friend. The motor I hope will be coming out in two weeks when I have a bit more time. The motor already does not leak a drop. It needs a good cleaning though and detail.
  18. Yeah that tray is not going to survive the clean up. An yes all will be fixed with new metal.
  19. So I was not looking forward to this. I almost thought I would get away with just cleaning it up but seems bit more than I thought. No worries got a 110 welder and I welded for 12 yrs on thin material so Its going to be some fun. I also did find some holes in the floor but will work on those later first engine bay and fenders. Now on to the pictures. Took the window sash off and there was a mouse nest in there. Does not look too bad so far. ok here going to reinforce this prob. Getting little rust spots. OH now for the bad. fender problems would like to find a drives side bolt on. If not I can prob fix it. I figured this would happen but not 8 times. This is the great hack job they did to the wires. I have not really thought about which way to go with this. I will fix the problems but I am telling you POR-15 is looking really good right now. If not going to respray the engine bay. I have only sprayed a few things but this would be pretty big for me. With the por 15 I could brush that stuff on. On a side note I will prob pull the motor and trans and that seems easy enough. I am going to try and have this part done by spring. Or sooner and move to the floors on the brat. Now I just need some $$ for suplies.
  20. Is there a swap meet? IF so is it big or small? If I thought the brat would make it over the cape I would roll it there. There also does not seem to be a list of events. Thanks for any info.
  21. Thats some nice work with the carpet. That sounds about right for the work they did too. As for the foot pedal my friend has an extra one with a bolt. I guess the floor needs some work. I am little nervous to pull the carpet up though might find a hole or two. I did find the paint code think its 24.
  22. I saw that, but $300 for carpet? Shipping just kills you. I did look at mine and it does not seem to have any holes. I am going to try an clean it up and see how it goes. I am def going to put mats in though. By the way you have any fenders?
  23. I don't want to dig to deep into this car but I can't just do it half way. Need to wait till some $ shows up to get mat and parts. This was my last major project v6 turbo into a volvo. To much $ flushing away but its been year and half time to work on something again. Dumped it for $2500 after the trans blew and I was done. The Brat just fell into my lap so try to make the best of it and keep it stock:clap:. No turbos
  24. Well worked on it a bit last night and realized that the PO owner or owners totally patched the harness together. I have a nice harness I think from a 84. Has anyone redone the engine bay? I am sure there is a better way just to have lights ground and power. Its a big rats nest with wires spliced in all over the place. I had power one minute and then no power on the fan line. go figure. I think I am going to pull the motor and redo the bay and wire. It will be a good winter project.
