I’d argue that new boots on an old OEM cv shaft assembly is well worth the effort if it’s not left to grind along with loads of road grime, water and dirt in there.
A mate of mine swears by stretchy boots. I saw one (now a meme somewhere) that wrapped the boot around the shaft a number of times when the gizzards of the CV joint let go for whatever reason. The CV joint was rebuilt on the side of the road and the boot reused!
I’ve used various aftermarket boots with good success. I next time I’ll be trying these stretchy boots.
Cheers

Me too. Have never replaced an axle. I watch mine and replace when they leak. Noticed long ago the quality of Subaru rubber and how long factory boots lasted. After market/parts house boots not so good. Ebay sellers have couple outer NOS boots, no inners. Guess I'll order BECK/ARNLEY 1032129 from Rock. Rubber for these old cars getting hard to get. Wonder how many still running>

Just learned Subaru has obsoleted them, the aftermarket boots don't last.
Anybody able to help?

It'd be BIG helpful if forums had a bad brands and sellers thread.

If you also do not have high beam on the right headlight, then it is probably one of the two relay switches that handle the headlights as well. They are located behind the fuse box panel above your left kneecap. All of the relay switches give off noxious fumes that are slowly killing the drivers of the older generation subarus. I ran electrical lines for all of my relay switches to air tight 30 cal ammo boxes that I put in the foot well for the rear seats.
Anywhere to read about the relay fumes?

Fuse'd be good start. Try all other electrics to see if anything else wonky.

Must I remove piston to replace it?

Not finding any videos for these.

Is there any way to get emails of posts here?

For '83 GL, they appear to've been largely discontinued at/by parts houses here.

A couple months ago, I lost my only master key, and turns out both of my spares are valet keys that don't lock the hatch or glove box. This causes three problems:
1. I can't lock the trunk with my current key.
2. I had to break into the glove box. The lock core is now broken. Turns out finding a new glove box lock core for a '84 GL isn't easy, regardless of key issues.
3. Subaru says the keys are too old to use their VIN lookup tool to make me a new one.
What do you suggest I do? How can I get a new master key made? Any ideas on the glove box?
Can prob fix you up with glovebox lock, got eight 80-84s.

Thanx y'all!
Didn't realize how much the bushings were worn. Had .015" slop at top.
Got blessed to find a Cardone rebuild on Ebay for $120.
Superoo's back out on big road.
