  1. Hello, I bought it from a guy that bought it for his son that was going to move to town and then didn't. He had bought it six months prior from a Subaru specialist in Bend Oregon called SubaGuru. They do the HG's and any needed maintenance before sale kind of like are "certified used car". The guy also tweaked on a few things like sealing up the tail lights better. I was pretty lucky, it was all fixed up and ready to run! Todd
  2. Looks like some good options. I would definitely prefer getting one with a documented HG job. I've had a 92 Legacy L wagon(probably the best car I ever had value wise), 1998 Outback(HG blew at 120,000mi-otherwise nice car) and the one I have to this day 2000 Outback. The 2000 Outback had 171,000mi and fresh HG and other "Subaru Shop" pre-sale prep. I currently have 228,000mi and it's running great. One thing I have had to deal with is the check engine light code for the Cat. I went through replacing o2 sensors and eventually had to get a new Cat. If I were buying now, I would still go with Gen 2 or 3, but a rare creampuff 90-93 Legacy wagon would catch my attention:) Good luck Todd
  3. Hello all, I thought I would follow up with an update after being here in Texas around three months. I ended up driving the 2000 OB the 2000 miles here and keeping it. We had to replace the cat to pass emissions, but the car is running so nice and we're glad to be keeping it. My wife sold the 98 OB to someone who was willing to pick it up the night before my wife flew out to Texas. All is good!..-Todd
  4. Thanks for the comments. I might try putting them up for sale for local market value and see. If they don't sell in time, I can have a friend sell them for me or take one or both. I need the all wheel drive here, but I won't in Texas, so it would open my options for lower cost economical transportation. We do love our Subarus though. -Todd
  5. Hi there, I have a different kind of question for you guys. I'm moving from Central Oregon to possibly San Antonio Texas soon. My wife and I both have Outbacks, Mine is a 2000 with 210,000 miles and her's is a 1998 with 174,000 miles on it. I wondering if we should sell them here where the seem to sell for more money, or just take them or one of them to Texas with us? It will take as much or more money in gas to drive them there as a plane ticket would cost. Looking on Craigslist, I don't see many Subarus for sale in Texas, but when I do they seem a lot cheaper than what they go for here. I appreciate your thought's on this Todd Smith toddsmith541@yahoo.com
  6. I'm kind of new to the site and not a mechanic, but I have a 92 legy wagon, 98 OBW aand a 2000 OBW and my understanding is the earlier ej25(99 and earlier) are more likely to have servere damage from head gaskets leaking internally when they blow compared to 00-04 having an external leak problem which isn't as dangerous. I would go for the 00 or 01. btw, the prices seem comparable with Central Oregon too. -Todd
  7. Just a thought for you. I've been driving a 92 Legacy for a few years(just switched to a 2000 OBW) and my coworker has a 98 Forester. There really isn't much size difference in the three to me. The Forester may be a little taller, but it's a little shorter too. I do have a little more room in my 2000OBW than in my 92 Legacy, but the width of the rear hatch seems to favor the 92. You should look at the specs to comfirm. To me it's mainly a style choice and I prefer the looks of the Legacy based rigs. Also a lot of the 99 and earlier Foresters seem to have less conveniences such as cruise control and power windows. -Todd
  8. Hello, As the title says, I'm aware of a set of 2004 WRX wheels that are available for $150 for the set. From what I was able to look up they seem to be 16 x 6.5 as is the 2000 OBW's wheels. Is the offset OK for the OBW? Thank you for your help - Todd
  9. I don't have anything to add tech wise, I just wanted to say hello to a fellow La Pine commuter. I live in La Pine and have been commutting to Bend for almost 13 years. The last 4.5 to 5 with my 1992 legacy wagon with 235,000 miles on it today. I just picked up a 2000 OB this week, but I'll be hanging on to my trusty 92 too. Good luck with your project. -Todd
  10. Thanks for the responses. We probably won't go look at it. I see the case that low miles only has so much added value and at this price I would be better off with one with about 100,000 miles at half the price. In this area he will probably get close to what he's asking, so there would be no point in driving 100 miles round trip to offer substantially less. Thanks - Todd
  11. Hello all! In my area there is a 1999 Legacy L wagon with 56,000 miles on it. They are asking $7995, which is high. KBB has it at $7090(Private Seller). I would at least try to get them down to that. I'm liking the low miles and the model, 2.2 motor and even the color suits me. As I have shared before I currently drive a 1992 Legacy with now 234,000 miles on it. I commute 70 miles a day. If I pick this up, we'll keep the 92 as a back-up car. Your opinions are appreciated - Todd
  12. Thanks for the input! Many of you are helping me lean towards keeping mine for awhile and keeping an eye out on craigslist. So far three caught my attention enough to email the ads. Ones was a 94 Touring wagon with under 50,000 miles for $3500 and another was a 92 L wagon with 110,000 for $2600, and recently a 97 Outback with a blown head gasket(167,xxxmi) for $1000. They al sold , before I could grab them. The 97 seems to be re-listed by it's buyer now for $1500. Is ther an advantage or disadvantage to going to the next gen(95 -99with ej22)? Also I state that my wife has a 98 outback 157,000 miles new head gasket a couple years ago. Thanks a bunch for your opinions and information. -Todd
  13. Hello, I just recently joined the forum, and I shared how I have a 92 Legacy L wagon with 232,000 miles on it. I mentioned that I was keepimg my eyes open for another Legacy wagon with closer to 100,000 miles on it(ej22 only) to buy and replace mine. A couple posts recommended just keep driving mine. I might be leaning this way, because I have really enjoyed the 127,000 miles I have put on it. I commute 70 miles a day plus drive it to jobsites. Yesterday 320 miles plus my 70 mile commute. My car is running fairly strong, how many more miles can I expect? My original thinking was getting a low miles Legacy for about $3500 and selling mine for $1500, gains me another possible 125,000 miles for $2000. My mechanic says he can put in a low miles ej22 for $2500. I will also need to get new struts and also do the timing belt on mine in about 8,000 miles. Please give me your thoughs - Todd
  14. Yes, very close to Prineville. I live in La Pine 35 mi. south of Bend and work in Bend. I also have jobs from time to time in Prineville. A few years ago I did some welding inspection at their facility. -Todd
  15. No rust at all, we're in the high desert here. I love the car and it's running great. It really only needs new rear struts and the air conditioning fixed. I just see similar era subarus in craigslist with closer to 100,000 miles on them for $3000 to $4000, and wonder if it makes since to pick one up and sell mine, or maybe keep mine as an extra car for the family. btw I commute 75 miles a day and drive my car to jobsites for my work, so I put a lot of miles on it. Also, now reply back on the 97 with the blown head gasket, it's probably gone. Thanks - Todd
  16. I'm looking forward to being part of this community! I've been hooked on Subarus for about four to five years now. I switched from using a full size pick up for my work to a 98 Outback subaru wagon, then talked my wife into getting a 1992 subaru L wagon, then our son got a 1990 Loyale. I have since traded my wife and drive the 1992 Legacy, and I'm up over 231,000 miles on it. My son sold his Loyale and has a 1993 Impreza coupe. I'm trying to decide now whether to just keep my old 92 Legacy running or pick up another one with lower miles on it. I'm hooked on the 2.2L motor. I just answered a CL ad for a 97 Legacy with 165,000 miles and a blown head gasket for $1000. If it's still available I would consider picking it up and having a 2.2L put in it. I would apreciate any advice. -Todd
