  1. Thanks everyone for the information I will start with alignment and check bushings then go from there, it has new struts and ball joints and new axles, haven't thought about the brakes and they are new too, could be stuck caliper but it seems to free wheel  when I jack it up, also I have noticed  the left (drivers side) front wheel lines up with the edge of the fender and the right (passenger side) is inside the fender, not sure if it's supposed to look like that.

  2. Has anyone out there with a 1985 brat ever had a problem with their Brat pull to the left under acceleration and instantly pull to the right when you let off the throttle? This has been happening for the last year or so and its not just a slight pull it's a major movement.

  3. Pulled Oil Pan And Found A Thick Pudding Type Blob In The Bottom Of The Pan, Right Where The Pickup Tube Was. Scraped It All Out And Cleaned Out Pickup Tube And Screen.Don't Know What It Was Never Seen That Before. Now I Have 70 Lbs. Oil Pressure At Speed And 25-30 Lbs. At Idle.Very Happy With My Brat So Far.

  4. There Are No Leaks Around Pump Or Any Other Place.

    Am Using 10-30 Oil.

    No Oil Burning, No Smoke.

Haven't Done A Compression Check But Seems Good.

Have A Good Aftermarket Oil Pressure Guage Installed.

Will Check O-Rings On Oil Pump.

Lifter Noise Is Coming From Driver Side.

    Idle Is About 900 Rpm's.

Old Oil Pump Did The Same Thing,But No Lifter Noise.

Thanks For All The Advice Everyone, Will Remove And Check O-Rings And Replace Oil With 20-50.

  5. Need A Little Help With My ea81 oil Pressure

Have Installed New Oil Pump And Filter,Have Good pressure At Startup, Will Hold Pressure For About 10 Minutes Then Start Dropping As Far As 8 On Guage Then The Motor Starts Ticking.

What Is Wrong, screen,Pickup Tube, Bad O-Rings ??????

Did The same With Old Oil Pump.

    Any Suggestions ??

  6. Finally Got My Brat Running But Now It,s Making A Gurgling Noise On The Left (passenger Side )Of The Motor Like It's Getting Hot. So Took Out Thermostat And Wired Fan To come On When Engine Is Cranked, But Still After Running Just A Few Minutes And Shut Off Engine Still Gurgles.Timing Is set Right , Good Water Circulation At Radiator. Flushed Whole System.By The Way Runs Very Good No Smoke And Good Power.:banghead:

  7. Does anyone Know The Color Codes To Wire A Coil On 85 brat?Or Pictures Of One Wired.Cannot Get Spark ,Have New Coil , New Distributor,New Plug Wires And Plugs. Did Run For A Few Minutes Then Quit. Cannot Restart. Fuel Pump Is Working Properly. Have Power On Coil Both Pos And Neg When Key Is On.Getting Frustrated...Help!!!!

  8. I may have just covered this topic for a brat in the older gen section,First make sure you have spark at the coil then see my other post regarding phasing the distributor correctly in the other section.

Basically the rotor button must line up all through a manual check of the advance curve with the engine at top dead centre number one cylinder the rotor button must align with the number one lead at the cap,But most importantly when you manually check the advance curve by twisting the rotor button against the spring tension the rotor button must sweep across the pickup point in the cap and not go past it.

If they do not align no spark will cross from the coil feed via the rotor button and then to the individual cylinders,Hence always check spark at coil first.\,then check the distribution phase of the system.

If it fails the spark at coil point then it is either wiring,Coil or reluctor (Pickup unit) These are the same as a number of vehicles Isuzi impulse in the states (gemini in Asia Pacific region)some Nissan models with A series and E series engines etc. Not just Subaru as Hitachi and Mitsubishi Distributors interchange over many different vehicles even hondas.

How Do I Check Coil For Fire?

So Far I Have Gotten Number One Cylinder At Top Dead center,Matched Rotor Cap Too. Still No Fire, Must Be Pickup unit.

Which Vehicles Will Interchange Distributers Exactly, Trying To Find One,ALittle Less Expensive?

  9. You have no spark at a spark plug wire itself? Pull wire at the spark plug end, ground a spark plug and have someone watch. Make sure you don't have spark 4 sure.

You have no fuel coming out of the line from the fuel filter?

    Does it backfire or anything?

    No Spark At Plug.

    Have Fuel At Carb.

    No Backfire Either.

  10. I have an 85 Brat too. The first thing I would do is swap the wires on the distributor. I have accidently had them on the wrong leads at the coil and got nothing.

Double checked and swapped the leads and she fired right up. I had swapped to a new coil too but all it was were the leads on the wrong terminals. :)

Tried That Today No Luck, Sure Wish That Was It.
