  1. Update - Used a screw driver to wedge behind the broken ring and then snipped with a pair of tin snips. Popped right off piece of cake! Thanks for the advice guys!
  2. Do you think I'll be able to snip enough that I would be able to break it off?
  3. Thanks for the replies! It looks like I'll have to get that thing off before I wear a hole through for sure. I did try and use the belt to hold it in place but I felt uneasy about how much pressure I was having to put on it and didn't want to trash my new belt. Looks like I'm pulling the oil pump again.
  4. I've searched and didn't find anything quite like this on here. I've got an '89 EA82 in a 4door wagon. This time last year I did a full timing kit that had belts, tensioners, idlers, and I added cam seals, crank seal, oil pump seal, water pump, hoses and a radiator. Yesterday morning I started it and heard an extra little jingle coming from under the hood that I hadn't heard before. I popped the hood and saw the issue. It appears to be that on the oil pump pulley, there are rails front and back to keep the belt centered or at least on the pulley. The rail on the engine side has come loose/off of the pulley and is jingling between the pulley and the oil pump housing. I need to know if this is a major issue or if it can stay like this for a while without any damage. It seems I have to use a strap wrench or something to hold the pulley from spinning while I loosen the nut holding it on so I was unable to pull the pulley off tonight. Please let me know! Thanks
  5. Someone stole the stereo out of my 1989 GL wagon before I owned it. I started stripping wires the other day in an attempt to get a new deck in but since the jerks that took it cut the wires so far inside the dash, I had trouble stripping the hot wire and touched the bezel and it sparked. I didn't know I had a blown fuse until I got pulled over on the way to work the next morning saying I had no taillights (also had noticed my dash lights were out on the dark morning). Anyway I replaced the fuse and all my lights are working again but I can't get power to the switched 12v or constant 12v. Is there another fuse or relay that may have popped when it sparked? Even with the new fuse there is no power to either. Thanks! -David
  6. Hey i read apost saying your windows dont work. Ive dealt with this problem its either the wires betwen the door and the body or theres a small plastic connecter that gives all windows power under the carpet in the pass side foot well. it gets smashed or corroded and you wont get power .. I thought id pass along the info..

  7. Started with a new Thrush turbo muffler to replace the stock one puking its fiberglass sound deadening material out, then rebuilt the main window switch to no avail. Custom booty-fabbed a few wires that i can swap to make the window roll back up, welded the right rear door lock rod back together so now the door locks too!
  8. What's the hot muffler for these things? I havent found a whole lot of info besides people throwing glasspacks on. That may be a bit loud for commuting. Just today I noticed some fiberglass hair strand puking out of the tailpipe and have been looking for an excuse to upgrade so please direct me to the best option!
  9. Hey everyone my name is David and I recently acquired a 1989 gl wagon from my parents to commute with. I've worked at Napa Auto Parts for 6 years and just today am officially an electricians apprentice! Very excited for a new opportunity and career. I live in Salem, OR with my wife Jamie and our Corgi dog Penny. I'm 24 and have loved 4x4 since I was little. I have a 1995 Ford F-250 7.3l diesel 4x4 lifted 4" on 35s and a 1987 Suzuki Samurai lifted spring over Toyota running gear locked front and rear sidekick power steering and 6.5:1 tcase gears all done myself and with help from my dad at times. Anyway typical me I cant leave anything i drive alone so I found this site looking for mods. Now that I've introduced myself time to hit the tech forum for some questions!
