Thanks for info. I was wondering about the best and easiest way to clean out gas tank. When I went to get carb parts cleaner at the parts store, the parts guy told me to take the tank out and fill it with white vinegar and let sit for a week. After a week take to a car wash and wash it out with high pressure rinse than put back together. which is the best way, or is there a better faster way.

Has anyone ever bought a fuel pump from Mr Fuel Pump off of ebay for a spfi? Can anyone tell me how to check the fuel pump I have? I replaced the engine, and before I took the old engine out the fuel pump worked fine. It sat for a year, and I did not start it until I tried with the new engine. It is a gl 1800 Spfi.

My 88 subaru gl spfi isn't getting gas. I connected the fuel pump directly to the battery. Nothing happened, so I guess that means the pump is bad. a new pump costs $200.00 at the store. Is there a internet store to get one cheaper? Is there a way to fix one of these pumps?

pricing out tranny mounts and clutch kits

I bought different clutch kits because they were cheaper than the dealers, but they were garbage. I finally bought a dealer one and it felt like it did when I bought the car. Big difference! It was not that much more, and worth it. -
I have two cars with five speeds I'm about to junk, because the engines are bad. If you want them there in monroe n.c. near charlotte. ones an 85 wagon, the other is a 88 sedan. both are 2wd.

I have a 88 GL 5sp, and it gets about 32 mpg. What is the average milage for that year on a auto 2wd.

In 1985, I was working in a subaru dealership in N.Y. They had a contest for the most mailage subaru. Winner got new subaru. The last day of contest a 78 subaru came in with 780,348 miles on it. The engine was running great, the body was rusted to nothing. You could see the road through the floor boards.

Looking for some Loyale Body Panels

I have a whole 91, but I live in North Carolina. I need the seats, and some lights, but I'll want to get this out of my yard. It's engine is blown. -
Is a manifold from a 88 fuel inj. single port going to fit a 85 carb, or is that why water might be getting in the cylinder causing all this trouble?
-
the car goes throw a about a cup of water for about ten minutes of running time at an idle of 700 rpms. I haven't really let it run for much longer than that. What bothers me is it didn't do it the last time it ran about a year ago. The person who gave it to me stopped driving it because the carb was messed up and flooding the engine so bad it wouldn't run. I figured it wouldn't floodout in this car because it's in afuel inj. car,and it doesn't. It runs great except for this water problem.

My 88 GL, with an engine from a 85 GL has water coming out the tailpipe, and lots of smoke after it gets to operating tempture. The engine from the 85 was running a year ago with no problens. The car starts easy and has 125 lbs. of compression, so I don't think the head gasket is bad, or a head, but I have to keep putting in water in the radiator. How can I be sure? I read in here a leak down test. Can you buy this gizmo pretty cheap,I don't have much money, but I need to get this car running to be street reliable. I read a thread from mickytrus who had 3 pages but didn't state if he ever fixed the problem, so if he or anyone has had this ever happened, any help would be appreciated. thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try the dealer for the gaskets. I never heard of gaskachinch. Is it like that blue rubbery make a gasket stuff?

Did you ever figure out why the car is smoking? My car is having the same problem. -
I replaced the pcv after reading a thread from this site, but still smokes. Just to get this correct, I put the 85 carb engine in the 88 fuel inj car and put the fuel inj on the carb engine. when putting the intake on it said not to use casket sealant, you think maybe that the intake manifold could be leaking?

After a few days of running the car a little at time it's not ticking anymore. It stopped burning oil clouds, but it still smokes alot and water is coming out the exhaust pipe, which I'm guessing it was doing all along, but didn't notice becuase of the oil smell, and smoke. I checked the compression, and it was 125 in all cyinders. It runs great, starts fast, but after it runs to operating temp it will smoke so much I could hide the empir state building in about 2 minutes. Anyone have any ideas what I should check?
