So, just curious if anybody knows the costs of a few pieces that some SOB damaged when he broke into my '97 Impreza. All he took was my stereo system and my leatherman, he took nothing else. I know the cost of the stereo equipment components (or at least their current equivelents) but I have no idea what the value of the plastic bits and pieces is. Basically, he damaged everything on the piece of plastic between the armrest part of the center console and the dash. This would include the piece of plastic itself, the trim around it, the cup holder is gone as is the frame for the stereo. He did leave the plastic pockets and the cigarette lighter socket and the bezelle around the shifter. I think he also took the blank piece at the bottom. Also, how did this guy get into my car? No windows were broken and I am 110% positive that I had locked the car the night before...all windows were up (the passenger door and tailgate were wide open). Finally, for you car stereo geeks out there, if you had an insurance check coming, what gear would you put in you car? I'll be getting a new deck, amp, and sub w/ enclosure.

Where do yo guys put your subs? I have a 97 Impreza wagon and would like to keep my spare tire and would like to get rid of my box and move my 10 someplace less in the way. Any ideas?

The weather stripping on my window was sort of pulled off a little bit in the front of my driver's side window on my 97 Impreza. It's been driving me nuts, the whistling sound, for the year and a half that I've owned the car. I've been meaning to fix it but I'm not sure what's involved. How much trim needs to come off? I'm assuming that the rubber is in fine shape, just pulled away from the sheet metal. Please help me stop the whistling.

There are adaptors built that convert the CD changer connector into the 1/8" stereo connector required for any mp3 player, CD player, walkman, etc. Simply plug these in to the CD changer wire on the back of the headunit, run the unit outside the dash, and plug into the top of your ipod. My 2.2 in my 97 impreza has a tick when cold as well. No clue what it is, doesn't seem to happen in the warmer months? I think I'm running 5W30, but I'd have to check that. I've been meaning to switch to Amsoil, maybe that will help?

Forgive the rant but what do you need them for? Are you going to be one of those people on the busy freeway blinding everybody with their foglamps? Sure the fog lamp might add a shred of visibility for you (on the busy highway) but I personally have never seen that. The problem is, if I, or anybody else can't see because we're blinded by your foglamps then we crash and you get a nice clear view of us wrecking our car. Extreme example perhaps, but think before you use those things.

Along the same lines, my remotes are either dead or dying. Plastic bits inside have broken and they now require (the one that works) a good smack sometimes to get the doors to lock/unlock. Yes I've replaced the batteries. Is there an inexpensive way to replace the remotes? For what the dealer wants, I might as well just have a nice alarm system installed.

I own a Impreza and my company owns an 02 (I think) Forester. I was noticing yesterday in a long drive in the company car that the steering feels much 'looser' in the Forester then in my Impreza. Is this a function of wheelbase, size of powersteering parts, or is something wrong with one of the vehicles?

If the stcok stereo has a CD changer control function, you can do exactly what you need without swapping decks. I haven't looked online for this myself since I don't own an ipod and I have an aux input on my current stereo, but they are now selling control wires that run from the CD changer control wire to the ipod. Anybody know if this is a possibility with this stereo?

When I bought mine, I picked it up from the dealership in the middle of the work day. Went back to work and started bitching to a friend about how I had just bought a car without a cup holder. This friend, a long time Sub owner, then made fun of me, and told me where it was...but 5 years? I would have found without this friend just during routine detailing (I also would have found it while installing the CD player).

I've been lazy and have not had the codes checked. I was sorta hoping that somebody would just tell me it was the widget. I'll have the codes checked and report back when done

My '97 impreza 2.2L outback has a strange problem. When I take it to the mountains, winter or summer, over 4000 feet, the check engine light comes on. When I return to the lowlands and drive around for a couple of weeks, the check engine light turns off. Any ideas?

Last night I noticed my parking lots were on, which seemed odd since they have always turned off with the ignition. Tried removing positive battery lead to reset something, I don't know what I thought that would accomplish but all it did was make me need to reset my radio stations. At the moment, I have to pull the light fuse to leave my car so the battery won't drain. Any ideas on what the problem might be?
