  1. the 96 Legacy Outback swapped into the 98 Forester , works great Thanks for all your input. now i need to fix a few other small things and i got myself a sweet car.
  2. thanks for the replies, i will check on what the legacy is more specifically.
  3. I have a 1998 Forester, bought two years back with a bad transmission (Reverse went out) i had bought a used transmission from a 2001 Forester but come to find out it wasnt compatible, i found a transmission from a salvage yard but it looked different was supposed to have come from an 98 forester but i had a incling it was a 1999 transmission as it had an oil filter on the side. but from what i researched it should work, but my mechanic ran into a snafu doesnt match up with the torque converter and it doesnt have a sensor connecter at the top where the original one did. now i put an add on craigslist and this fella with a 96 legacy says this is the transmission i need. someone please tell me if any of this will work? original car(that needs the transmission replaced) 1998 Subaru Forester engine EJ25DAX1JB transmission TZ1032J1AA slavaged trans:supposedly from a 98 Forester has 886668 on the housing with transcode TZ1A32C2AA-P8 96 Legacy with 147119 on the housing and transtype TZ102ZZCBA engine type EJ25DAXCJL i also have vin #'s available from stamps on the side of the transmission
  4. Have a 2001 Subaru Legacy sedan that juts and bucks, seemed like transmission issue, Check Engine Light came on, got a reading of PO420 and a PO122 PO328 replaced the knock sensor, replace o2 sensors. it seemed all right for 4days and then it did the jut and buck again and then CEL PO328 but all ready replaced the knock sensor. At a loss on this. took it to a mechanic and he thinks maybe the brain box ECU? he said something about voltage not changing. he quoted like 500 bucks but if it is the ECU i see them on ebay from 50 to 200 bucks. any other thoughts would be helpful.
  5. I have a 1998 Subaru Forester with a bad transmission, no reverse and metal shavings in the pan, i found a 2001 forester with a good tranny for 500 bucks Just wondering what snafus i may have, or will these bolt up and plug in. according to the vin # they are both 4eat transmissions. but looking at them side by side they are definitely different in shape and size. the transmission codes are the 1998 forester TZ103ZJ1AA THE 2001 FORESTER TZ1A3ZC2AA-P8 I am trying to figure out the gear ratio cause i hear if that matches i may be all right and maybe swap the speedometer sensor. is this true?
  6. trying to figure out if i am going to run into any issues or will these two transmissions be interchangable. 1998 car has no reverse, did all the fluid, filter change metal shavings in the pan. found a 2001 forester auto transmission. trans. codes are 1998- TZ103ZJ1AA 2001- TZ1A3ZC2 AA-P8
