  1. I'm hoping to upgrade to rear discs on my 87' brat, and have been reading old threads on the parts that are required to make the swap.  I've been searching but I haven't found a list of the years/models of subaru with rear discs that will work on the brat.  So far as I can tell I need to find an 80's 4wd turbo donor car like a gl-10 in order to get the right parts.  Does that sound right to those who have done the swap? Thanks, any info would be appreciated.

  2. I too am interested in a modern stereo option for my ea81, 1987 Brat. I would like to make the stock stereo compatible with my ipod and think I have found a solution. Here is the link for a wired fm modulator, http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/howToGetItTab.do?c=1&zip=21201&oid=80974#tabs

radioshack sells an rca to 1/8 adapter to complete the setup. That said, is the stock am/fm setup cabable of having new speakers wired to it that aren't common ground?

  3. I have been doing some reading on different threads and it seems that people are impressed with POR-15 rust proofing. I would like to keep my Brat as rust free as possible so I was thinking of picking some up and applying it to the wheel wells, floor panels, and gas tank. Can anyone suggest other places that will need some rust proofing protection, or places that I should be care not to get any on. Thanks TMB

  4. My Brat finally arrived today after three weeks of waiting the anticipation was almost too much. She is in much better condition than I tought, original paint is in great shape, interior is amazing-no dashboard cracks, two small tears in driver seat but thats it, best part is I haven't been able to find a spot of rust yet, has 102,600 miles on it and drives very well. Looking forward to exploring the east coast a little, anyone know a subie mechanic in Maryland?

  5. The Brat is a one owner California car with 102,000 miles on it. I am in Baltimore but I have a brother that lived a hour from the used car lot that it was on, he drove down and checked it out. No rust, couple of small dents/scratches but in generally great shape especially for an old subaru. So I borrowed a little more student loan money from the government than I needed and bought it. It is still in transit, and should arrive in Baltimore on Friday of this week, I can't wait. TMB

  6. After two months of searching, I recently purchased a 1987 Brat. I have been trying to find a good repair manual for it. I have searched the old posts on the site and have found some conflicting info. on what is a good manual. Can anyone suggest one? Thanks for your help, it is good to be a member of a greater Subaru family again, after my 86' GL died I felt lonely. TMB
