Yeah its not a clicking, for sure something rubbing. I tried moving the wheel a while back and it did have a little movement, not alot though. I'll have to check the cv nut. Kind of frustrating because this noise just kind of came on. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it but I did have a motor mount come completly undone on the same side of the noise, I don't think the noise was as bad or at all before I fixed the mount. That couln't really do anything though could it? I'll take a look around, need to get fixed fishing season is coming strong and I need a dependable rig. thanks again guys josh

I have a 91 loyale 4wd, at any speed coast in neutral braking etc I hear a noice coming from the front passenger side. the inner cv boot is leaking grease but the boot is not torn, it soiunds like a bad bearing and its espially loud when turning to either the right or left and not so bad when just going strait. I was thinking either a bad wheele bearing or cv joint. Any ideas. oh also when I grab the inner part of the axle it moves alittle up and down is this normal or a sign of worn joint? Also my front end just feels loose all together almost like its floating around turns. The suby would be perfect if i could just figure out this front end prob. Thanks for the help guys... you rock like always. I'm more than willing to give out some fishing info in alaska for car help. Thanks again

need some strut help
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I finally went to home depot and got some pipe for a helper finally got one side off, what a pain though very slow process and my rachet kept popping. the other side is even worse, both top bolts are tight, really tight. When I get them off i was debating either to take the struts to shop and have them change the springs over or just rent a compression tool from schucks. Is it a pain in the rump roast to compress the springs????? Thanks for the help Josh -
need some strut help
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sorry forgot to mention model etc... 91 loyale 4wd wagon. thanks again -
I'm in the process of replacing my rear struts and ran into a problem. Both upper bolts started out fine, I got the left one all the way out and just as I thought I almost might have the second it gets stuck and I can't move it. The right side mount also moved up so the holes no longer line up. I know chiltons says to support lower control arm which I did, although it did not specify how much. Any idea what these tight bolts are all about, could their be to much pressure on the bolt? I've also applied some anti seize.. During all this I also tried to loosen the lower bolt and had no luck... and advice would be greatly appreciated I don't have a ton of time, as I would like to go fishing tomorrow! Thanks Josh

white slim in vacume line 91 loyale
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, all the boots seem to be fine... I do have a cv boot on the opposite side that is torn but side that is making noise is good.. I don't know, sub is all of a sudden falling apart, needs some tlc! So I shouldn't be concerned about the white stuff? Just seemed liked it was really clogged enough when i swung the hose a bunch came out. ( hose connected to the valve cover). thanks again josh -
While replacing a valve cover seal I pulled the vacum line off and discovered alot of white stuff that almost looks like grease but doesn't have the the same texture, more of a water like texture. Any Ideas what could cause this? Al Also I've noticed some noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. pretty consistent while moving sounds like a rough hum almost, like resistance is coming from somewhere. while the car was raised I turned that sides wheel and noticed a lot of play before the other wheel moved is this normal? any Ideas on what this could be? Thanks for the info ahead of time! Josh

While looking for an oil leak I noticed that the motor mount (closest to my oil pan) on my 91 loyale was loose and I appears the bolts are no longer there. What kind of damage can this cause? And how do i get everything back together / llned up? Also I found a leak on the left side of the engine (when looking at the windshield) does anyone know what this area is called so i can get a new seal for it. It has subaru written on it I believe 4 bolts hold it in place vertically. Thanks guys

Yakima rack on a loyale
mountainbikeak replied to Birddog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
YEa, hey on the yakima racks that are made for gutter systems they should come with rubber boots that will sit on the part that actually fits in the gutter. I don't use mine, and everything seems just fine. I've carried everything from 2 bikes and a rocket box from oregon to alaska to tons of lumber. Good Luck -
I have a 91' loyale 180 k miles. Basically it seems like my suby would rather control me then for me to control it. Feels like that thing is all over the road ,not nearly as solid as just a couple thousand miles prior. Could this be a mixture of a lot of things including my struts? I guess some input on what I can check for other than struts would be nice. Also It really seems to like following the groves in the road and when hitting a bump some times the steering wheel likes to jump one way or the other. I know some of this is normal, but I do know that its just getting worse. What do you think? Thanks for the thoughts ahead of time. Josh

91 Loyale Idle inconsistant
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It was the second time the egr solinoid went out, the first time for sure as soon as I plugged the new one in the light went out. I'm pretty sure it did the same this time as well. I havn't made it out I have a damned geology exam tonight so I'm kind of stuck. Question on timing, when using timing light do you want the mark lined up with 0 or did I miss understand that? Thanks man for the help -
91 Loyale Idle inconsistant
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've checked all my hoses, didn't look bad. I recently had to change my egr solinoid, I got one from the junk yard, the cel went off so I assume that fixed that. I'll check and see what codes come up now. -
91 loyale almost 180,000 miles. After searching for some time I was unable to come up with a solution. Recently instead of my idle going right back down to 750 it kind of huvers at around 1000-1300 then finals at its own will drops back down to where it should be. I did have a problem with my idle surging and the engine light coming on, Thier were many threads about that and I wonder if this could be the same kind of thing? Also set my ignition timing, could I have done that wrong? Oh and it has been pretty cold here in alaska recently not sure what kind of effect that could have. Thanks Josh

mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Alright, all back together. Thanks for the help!!! I think next I'll replace my struts and then all I need is a drivers side fender and I'll be sitting fat. If anyone has a fender in the alaska region let me know!!! 91 loyale thanks guys. Josh -
91 loyale died on highway, no warning
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, that was exactly what it was. The screws threads were completly stripped out, I got it hope now the ignition timing is off. Go figure! Thanks for the input -
stranded loyale home safe, sort of!
mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds good!!! -
ok so I got my loyale going... I posted earlier. However now it runs like crap, assuming this has to do with the timing? At idle it sounds fine, once I accelerate it starts to rattle and it actually has a hard time starting out(manual trans) also when i turned my heat all the way on hi the car died and had trouble starting again. Do I need to adjust some goods? Some input would really be appreciated. Oh and I owe everyone that helped me a beer!!! Thanks a lot saved me the cost of a tow truck!!!

Thanks man, yeah I just have to wait for my girlfriend to get back so I can take her car over there. The car will turn over and thats about it. as far as the firing order goes do you have to start that some where specific on the cap? -

mountainbikeak replied to mountainbikeak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks dude, really appreciate the help! I'm going to go back and try again, hopefully avoid getting a tow. Thanks again i'll update my progress Josh -
My car died on my early today, I found out that my rotor came loose and the screw was laying on the top of the distributor. I found out that that the threads were stripped on the distributor. I have other problems with timing as well which I will fix soon but can't really do much if my rotor will not stay on. I have a 91' loyale 1.8 175000 miles... Can i change out the brass spindle the rotor lays on? that seems more economical than changing the distributor itself... ? Josh

yeah I don't know why he took it out, he claims he couldn't get to the screw! So thier is a certain way the thing is supose to go back in? We lined everything up except for the main body and the part that spins at the bottom.
