  1. DIL just destroyed my rear rim and tire....I am leaving town today and I hate to post this way but I need to find a rim ASA humanly possible.. 03 legacy SE edition that has the 16" BBS style rims .. would appreciate it if anyone could provide link ...thanks bd
  2. thanks for the reply on the antenna routing...I just had not thought it out in my mind but was aware of the rubber plug for passing the cable thru to the inside...sounds like a clean install...regards...bill
  3. this is what I want to install http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=275 it has the fm modulator built in ..has bracket to mount on flat surface .. this is what i have found http://www.gbxdirect.com/store/satellite_radio_mount_kit.php?make=Subaru bracket is almost as much as radio bill
  4. I want to install XM in my 03 legacy S/W since its awsum in the work van...searched a couple of sites and a mounting bracket for the sub runs 30-40 bucks ...ouch!!...anybody have any tips for mounting and antennae location/cable routing...the roadready2 units have a vent(flimsey) and stickum mount (no flat surface) tks bill
  5. owned both the OBW and now a legacy SW....I prefer the legacy because of its lower stance(handles a lot better) , its cheaper, same car pretty much,...did I mention its cheaper! thereby allowing more $$$ for mods etc....
  6. Update: bought the above switch assy from subie gal, and it's a direct plug-in update for adding the delay or misting option to the standard 2 speed wipers...exactly the same , even down to the stamped # on the plastic housing...took all of 15 minutes to do the switch... Only difference in the impreza instructions, linked above , and my 03 legacy was that I had 1 screw that lowered the bottom half of the steering wheel cover...the other 2 screws were visible after removing the bottom cover...fwiw...bill
  7. I have been running the factory full front end bra and haven't noticed any paint issues at all...take it off regularly and clean and wax ....I do not have the chipped paint problem anymore...factory bra fits perfect and I am pleased...bd
  8. and put some Dilectric grease inside the boot, just a light coat, so that you can remove them easier the next time...bd
  9. local sub parts gave me PN 83114AE170 as the misting wiper switch(steering wheel stalk) for an 03 Legacy Outback...since I have the legacy L/se ....I assume that it should work...anyone know for sure...any sub parts guys on the forum..I would rather buy from you...bd
  10. sorry....2003 Legacy L, se edition...Not familiar with rain tracker, will have to google that....I question the dealership response , I mean we're talking assy line work here...tks for response...bd
  11. http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/modifications/interior/wiper/wiper.html found this upgrade for the impreza and wondered if it would work for the legacy wagon I have..all I have are the 2-speed wipers and I need the delay wiping action .I would think that the 2 would be interchangable but would like to know for sure b/4 visiting my stealership....bd
  12. couldn't stand it any longer...I got a set of iridium plugs from Boxer4, Dale Teague ...UPS delivered today and I installed them...D***Factory put champion plugs in....since I also have a cat-back stromung system we will see what happens now...I really dont understand why champions in a sub...common sense says NGK all the way...the champs looked Ok though , nice light brown with no signs of carbon or running rich and no deposits at all... If milage doesn't improve I will just have to get the borla's and a hi-flow cat!!! more to follow bd
  13. anyone heard or done business with these guys http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33631&item=7956600219&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW I am looking for a set of headers for my n/a 03 legacy and these they look similar to the borla's (300.00) ... I am cautious but they look identical..what say you'all...
  14. I owned a 99 OB wagon and traded it in on an 03 legacy se wagon and really prefer the legacy wagon over the OB anyday of the week...same drive train with a much cheaper price tag...only thing I am missing is the leather seats which I can live without...the regular legacy will sit a little lower than the OBW but I like it for looks, entrance/exit....Being that you are from upstate NY I bet you could probably find a Brighton model if you looked hard enough...it is a bare boned sub, roll-up windows , steel wheels, etc but its still a sub...U will probably have to find that one used as I believe sub stopped making them last year... Funny quirk here , I would almost trade for the VW Jetta SW TDI , I am getting serious about bio-diesel...good luck
  15. If you occasionally get a key on / no start most likely its the washers that everyone has mentioned...took the starter off , over to the local alt/starter rebuilder and no problem sir be back in 15 minutes...2 new washers and $20.00 later I am out of there...common problem that good shops are aware of...call your local sub dealer and ask what shop they use for starter rebuilds...the parts of service dept should be able to tell you...btw dealer wanted over 90.00 bucks to fix this little item...fwiw..bd
  16. I have a fumoto drain on my cargo van...can't remember if it was installed with a washer or not....you guys running the fumoto on your subes does it install with the drain washer or not...I really like them especially on my diesel van...tks bd
  17. I have the 03 legacy se wagon and the only thing that I need to complete the gt wagon look is the rear spoiler which I have already ordered from subie gal...my Q to her was if a "template" would be included to know where to drill holes ...ans was "don't believe so "...soooo... guys/gals ...has anyone done this and what do I need to know to install the rear spoiler...not the air deflector but the spoiler....tks bd
  18. New Legacy se, 03 ..2.5 single cam w/2,700 miles ...best milage so far is 20 mpg, been checking every tank ...had 200 mile interstate trip and only got 22 mpg....just changed out factory oil to 5w-30 amsoil syn....I had 99 OB/sw w/ dual cam 2.5 and always got 24-30 mpg ...this sucks , now I know its new but the fuel milage should not be this poor, only thing I know to do is to reset the computer, by unhooking the battery for an hour or so and see how it performs after that...I might pull one plug to see what's up there...any ideas ...tks bd
  19. used to have 99 ob/sw...The only problem you have with your starter is the copper washers (inside housing)...had exact same problem with start/no start after keying up...evidently the copper washers on the contacts get deformed ...sometimes start, sometimes no start ,recycle key and vroom....your local sub dealer should be aware of the problem but do not let them fix it...100 bucks,.... if you can remove your starter and take it to a starter/alternator rebuilder...they should know exactly what the problem is.. mine took all of 10 minutes (while I waited) 15 bucks ...good luck bd
  20. I had a similar problem with my 99 ob/sw...hard 1-2 shift when cold after it warmed up everything was fine....this year the 1-2 shift crept up into all shifts until warm....I was running amsoil syn atf and had more than regular filter changes...I could not find anyone who could tell me exactly what the cause was...manuals did not address the exact cause....had several "might be's"...I was advised to get the complete trans flush and to check the line pressure....I eventually traded for an 03 legacy se...good luck....I searched the archives here but could not find anything that fit my exact problem...might give Teagues auto a call , he is a sponser here...boxer4racing...he is an independent sub. shop and an ex indy mechanic...has lots of knowlege on stock subs...my .o2 bd
  21. Yes, Alias...thanks....I was trying to remember the differences between the legacy GT wagon and what was listed on this legacy se...(Shocks and swaybar upgrades)...I also remembered that Teagues Auto had a legacy project car and I am sure he can tell me a step-by-step upgrade for the 03 se...tks bill
  22. I had a 99 Legacy OB SW w/70K ( DOHC 2.5 )...I had been chasing a hard shifting trans problem w/no luck(no codes being set) and the engine was developing some noises awa being low on power(was really sluggish)...exiting dealer parts dept I spotted a 03 legacy sw special edition(moonroof,16" bbs type wheels and 55 series bridgestone tires) w/ 3,000 rebate w/2.9 % ..3,500 equity out of the 99 OB did the deal...tried to remember all the posts from the forums about legacy owners and what they had to do to improve their vehicles...I am finding this 03 legacy handles much better than the OB did...seems to "turn" into the corners and not plow ...I seem to recall a post about legacy's responding better to mod's than the Outbacks, anyway I hope I did the right thing....bd
  23. first post ...have 99 ob/ltd 2.5 auto 69K , amsoil syn trans fluid and the trans filter was changed at 9,900 (when I bought it) and at 45K...last winter the trans had a hard 1-2 upshift when cold...warmed up= no problems...this year I am detecting the same 1-2 hard upshift when cold except now a slight reving of the engine prior to the hard shift...again no problems when warm...everything else seems fine even the downshift to 3rd when braking...this is my wife's car and it's not run hard at all...any thoughts ?...I searched the forums first and didnt find any real answer for this particular problem...OBTW the local sub dealer says its normal that the trans temp sensor will not let the trans upshift until a certain temp...well thats true as in very cold weather it would stay in 3rd for a long time b/4 shifting into overdrive but this hard 1-2 is making me lift off the acc when it happens...sixiron needs help
