  1. Greetings all! My 97 Legacy Brighton 2'2 wagon has 97,000 M. (arizona car) is mint! After an oil change at a local shop I went through 1/2 a tank of gas and got 60 miles, revs stayed high after easing off, felt sluggish on pick up. OBD Scanner showed no codes, but in a file circled fuel management sensor! I checked all the vacuum lines, one was a bit loose, had a mechanic check for leaks. He said fuel sensor is good.(?) He suggested it was the fuel pump……... Would a faulty fuel pump push less gas not more? Can't tell if all that gas is flowing into the sump or burning up? It's vanishing somewhere! Car starts, runs ok, but down on power still, not smoking, whines a bit, but the gas is getting sucked into the engine at a rapid rate! Grateful for any thoughts on what else I should check? Many thanks! Pethog in Toronto. 86, 90, 92 Loyale, 96 Legacy
  2. Greetings all. Couldn't resist........just got (my 5th) Sube wagon........from Arizona. It's low mileage, sweet and tight! Can't let the salt get to this one. Have to wire up the running lights to bring it up to Ontario code......... "Cougar" addressed this issue in May, 2007 when the poster referred to an "Outback" I have not been able to find a separate Brighton wiring schematic........ Does anyone know if it's the same as the LHD 97 Legacy WGN? It's a 2.2 manual. I've been downloading diagrams for relays, locations, etc, local dealers only go back 10 years. Here we go again! Regards
  3. Thanks for the help guys. Timing belt was changed 25K ago, there was a code come up a while back from the original failed cat in August just prior to getting the new one installed. I think we're going to cut off the cat and check it out, replace it and the O2, check the egr. DaveT- your egr fix looks great. I am constantly amazed at the knowledge and experience you all have!. I guess I just didn't get my hands dirty enough when I was a kid. The parts guy, Howard, at the local dealership was a former mechanic, and for years had shared his time and experience when I went to buy parts. He passed away a year ago. Now they don't even have the shop manuals for the loyales..... Silent lifters in 09! pethog in Toronto
  4. Hi: Car doesn't/didn't burn a lot of oil, or smoke; passed its emissions testing ok. Oil pressure is down below 50% on the dial! Could that indicate "blowback" Worn rings? It's only done 250 K (130M) Same for gas. Mileage was good. Didn't smoke! That's why I was wondering what would cause it to run rich. I put a new fuel pump on in the summer. Seems to be OK. Would it help to cut the cat open, see what it looks like? Thanks Pete
  5. Greetings all. Replaced exhaust in Aug 08 with custom system. Car ran great, MPG was good. Cat failed last week, blocked. Had to remove O2 sensor for car to run. I want to try and figure out why it failed and what to check before(and if ) I replace it. Codes list O2 sensor and EGR valve. Sube mechanic suggested EGRs don't fail but solenoids do. (My Chiltons show the solenoid as seperate- SMPI) Is this likely? Any suggestions of what else to look for? CMP sensor etc? Thanks for any suggestions, Happy New Year! Pethog in Toronto
  6. Thanks all you guys.... I too have 90 Loyale 2WD, same check engine light on.... I'm still looking for the obvious bits (like whats the ECU?)..... And where do you read the codes (do you need to get a plug-in reader? But this is so great....All I have to do is avoid the family and spend the next three weeks on the computer reading! I'm on my 3rd Loyale... and it's always been me against the dealers! Great fun.
  7. Hi and thanx. Someone mentioned an all sube wreckers around Nanaimo? Have you heard of it?
  8. Greetings to everyone.....After years of trying to pry information from my local dealers, I'm stunned to discover this community... many thanks to all. My (4th sube) 2WD 90 Loyale is rotting as most do in E. Canadian cities.(There are 2 others locally, both terminal) If I can find someone to do some welding I may be able to save it....local bodyshops are not really interested. Are used quarter panels available in the US, or better? just the wheel arches? Rocker panels? Are aftermarket of sufficient gauge? Will wreckers save bits from cars they wreck? I found similar cars (autotrader) in Washington, Oregon and California: I wonder if anyone has any advice on finding, and getting one across the border. The body is the big issue: shortblock engines, new crated, have been on sale up here! I have some family on Vancouver Island and so a trip west is due. Is there a big difference in MPG between the 4WD/2WD? I have many questions on all subjects, so need to do some extensive reading on the site, but the level of knowledge is spectacular, as is the generosity of spirit. Snow's nearly gone, time to get out the axlestands and get to the steering rack! Any one with a similar vehicle in my neck of the woods? Best wishes to all Pete in Toronto
