  1. Coincidence - I want to do that with my 96 and 99 Legacies. I saw a pair of KC Daylight 100 watts in Autozone in Olean - the circuit on the box was direct wiring with no relays. Are your KCs 100 watt each and can you use them on-road?

Where did you get the light bar please and could I just fix them in front of the grille without a light bar with say a strengthening flat bar do you think?

I don't do off-road (intentionally) since I am 73 years young. Great pics thanks.

  2. Sorry lots of naive questions from me I am only 73 years old and a Brit.

    1. Can you fit a pair of Hella 500FF driving lights to a 99 Legacy and by-pass their connection to headlights, and can you use them on-road in NY state please?

    2. Same question for a pair of KC 100 watt Hilites (I saw in Autozone) please?

The KCs don't have a relay - yesterday I found the circuit on the back of the box in Autozone!

    3. Would the 'plate' just in front of the Legacy grill be strong enough to mount them?

    Gil ( 2 Legacies 96 and 99, and 97 Impreza for daughter).

  3. I have added a 97 Impreza Outback Sport to my 99 and 96 Legacies.

A garage has replaced two of the leaking power steering tubes but another tube was found to be leaking yesterday and is to be replaced (the metal tube with nuts on its ends).

While we had the car on the lift we noticed one of the bolts holding the steering rack to the chassis had sheared off (corroded or not torqued?).

The garage proposes drilling out the remains of the bolt and re-tapping - is this OK please?

  4. No, only 45 degrees each way.

Hey we are not far apart I am in Allegany but work in Buffalo West Side Tues Wed Thurs and Sat. I am all Subaru - I was 96, 99 and 98 but 98 sedan was totaled when daughter driving nearly went into river here last year saved by a tree 1 inch diameter trunk - I had bought it from the roadside near Springville on way home with her one day.

Have seen a nice 03 Outback at basil Resale Sheridan Drive. Normally use red 99 Wagon 170000 miles.

My grey 96 has 140000 and was rolled over down a bank near Jamestown and rolled back upright and drove away. Couldn't get in it myself the roof was dented in and collected rainwater, so I put in a 3 X 4 wood prop with a bottle jack on top and popped the roof out. I am 72 years young!

Last week brick was thrown through driver side window of red one in Delaware Av motel parking lot and PDA stolen - they left GPS receiver. They could have just opened the unlocked door.

Garage replaced window with one which was scratched, but agreed to replace and so they should look at lock bar at same time. I have located a good window at breakers in Hertel Av. Thanks for advice may need you again!

  5. Subaru was going downhill before this.

Bigger wheels on Legacy Wagon - looks cool but less stable, smaller windows - looks cool but less visibility, pander to the sheep of America by pushing it towards looking like an SUV.

Mix up all the model names so customers are confused.

I can't find a vehicle to replace one of my 3 Legacy Wagons so I am considering a Jag X-type now.

  6. Come to think of it I did have to replace the speedo head at 122000 and very occasionally it is slow to move up into drive. I replaced starter and 2 wheel bearings - on same wheel!

It is my favorite car of all time I give it awful punishment and it takes it like a man. It has to stay outside in Buffalo and elsewhere and always starts first go. The engine light comes on occasionally but I disconnect the battery to put it off since I cannot detect anything wrong. The AT oil temp light blinks occasionally in hot weather.

I run it on middle grade not regular now.

    It has done 180000.

Believe me I view cars as work-horses and treat them real hard but I have come to love this one.

In England we rarely change the engine oil sometimes not for 10 years - it is a myth to sell the oil I think - and I am the same with this in America though I do change the transmission oil.

I keep a spare alternator in the trunk, that I got on this list, I don't know why.

  7. Probably an old question but yesterday I saw an Outback with real

deep- and coarse-treaded Winterforce tires and the owner told me they were quiet-running. In England we used to call them 'Town and Country' tires!

I can't find them pictured in Bridgestone catalogue what were they do you think?

And again what do you recommend for my Legacy Wagons 96 and 99 for Winter New York I hate skidding on-road on ice and snow but don't want studs?
