  1. SO with the dcent amount rust patched and filled, and front end suspension rebuilt from lug nut to lug nut, this BRAT cuises nice and comfy at 75mph all day no problem. only issue im having is people trying to buy it off of me almost non stop. whats it worth? Ive added legacy seats, 5sp dual range trans that uses all stock levers and console, very nice jvc stereo with sub, has rear seats and camper shell, rear disc brakes from a gl-10 turbo wagon and 14" pug steelies. highest offer ive had was $4000 but i think he was dreaming

  2. This is awesome! Thanks for all the informative replies. Ive also noticed a huge increase in natural gas powered vehicles in my area, gonna look into it soon. Ive just been real busy with my newest toy. I must have subaru a.d.d. or something

  3. OK, so I finally got around to having the rear diveshaft made and for the first time was able to use the 4x4 agian. I was really impressed with how well the stock height brat did climbing minor dirt hills! but now im itching to put biffer tires on it. ive already aquired a set of 14" pug rims and have looked at different tire options. my question is; does anyone in the denver area have 2" lift they would sell me or be willing to help me make one in trade for beer? :D

  4. As far as im probably going to get with this is making the carb and at least get a motor to run on a stand. I want to document my trial and error on doing this so if someone wants to build a motor more specifically around running on LPG they can take what I come up with and run with it.

  5. Id probably look for one that fits in the spare tire compartment (disclaimer on not knowing if there are regulations against this for safety in a head on, you will have to account for your own due diligence).  short run for fittings and hoses, and keeps the gas out of the cabin.  Id try for a dual system if you can.

id also research which stations in your area will fill it, lots may say no.

duel fuel system is the dream but I think its going to be for LPG only. And I fill propane tanks all day at my work so avalibility is no issue for me

  6. A few things to point out... You can't just throw a regular carb on and go. Won't work. Second, you need a minimum of 9.5:1 compression or a small engine like that will be a gutless t*urd and run like garbage. Third and most important... The tank CANNOT be mounted in the engine compartment or inside the passenger compartment. Aside from the absolute stupidity and safety issues, it's a violation of federal law. You have to have a specially rated horizontal tank mounted where your gas tank was and should build a safety cage around it. Lastly, if you want any kind of dependability out of it, IE: long life, you'll want forged pistons, moly rings and stainless exhaust valves. I'm the LPG tech along with being the driveability and diesel guy at work. I've rebuilt more than a few LPG and propane engines and conversions on carbed rigs time consuming and frustrating. What was #1 at the top of this thread.... Are you very patient? Not trying to discourage you, but you really need to research this. There's a reason LPG didn't really take off until fuel injection came along

yes im well aware of the complexity of the conversion. If I can get said conversion to work on A SPARE MOTOR, I would then transfer the conversion into a car. If it goes that far I will be using a forklift tank mounted in the bed of a brat. who gives a f*ck if it doesnt work either? ever just do something for grins :) :) :) ? I'll have to look into the laws around lisencing the the car for street use, but whats dumb about experimenting with alternative zero emissions fuel any way.

  7. I ran propane on a subaru 3.0 six with turbo worked very well and we have some ej motors runing on propane all turbo works well we use a cut down ej 2.2 harness with just spark wireing no efi

cool this gives me hope! The motor however is probably a higher milage and to be honest the condition of it is uknown. I just happen to have it lying around and a couple spare carbs, and all the free time I need currently. plus it sounded fun!

  8. Any interests in propane conversion? I have a spare ea81 block laying around and im considering propane conversion just for grins... ive aquirred a book that goes over converting smaller 4 stroke motors but the math should all carry over. ive seen kits for v8 motors but none for smaller. I may use an existing carter webber that i have being a single barrel, or the hitachi seeing that those are more common. other option is just to fab a new one up from scratch, and might be the easier route.... any one ever try this?

finished product! All in all I have to say, this was a lot of work. I wish I had a computer at the time so I could have asked some questions and done some research. I still dont care if what I did was worth the effort on an old rusty Brat, but I love my car, and it was worth the experience!

  10. when my trans blew up i bought a donor car that already had the 5 speed swaped, so i decided to do some work on the floor pans and practice welding. once i tore out the carpet i bit off a bit more than i could chew :(

new floor patch fitted. after welding this in place i used navel jelly on the other surface ruted areas, hit with a stop rust, the sprayed with rubber coating.

so this is how she sits as of today. new struts, balljoints, wheel bearings, cv axels, Legacy seats are in now, 5sp d/r swap, and i have a set of gl 10 rear discs going on soon!

  12. So I've finally gotten around to post my ride.  Ive had my brat for about a year now and i picked it up for $1200.

This was the day i brought it home. fenders were rusted and the body was a little rough, but she runs good and i can modify, beat up, and generally have fun with this and not worry. The idea Ive had was to make it look like the warthog from the game Halo. I'm still working on uploading more photos so hopefully this should be photo rich by the end of the night!

  13. finally got my acount to work!! My name is Jeff and i picked up my 82 brat about a year ago. Ive wanted one for a while now and ive always wanted to build a warthog from the game halo out of one. not everyones cup of tea but it puts a smile on my face and thats all that matters. Plus it was in really rough shape when i got it so its not like im ruining a rust free one. Lastly, is this the proper place to post my progress on my build?

    -Jeff
