  1. Glad it all worked out, Steve....I figured it was something simple. Hey, now don't think I was going to sell it for any more than that 800 bucks, regardless of how she ran! I'd had many miles out of her, but I happily moved on to the wife's 05 Mini Cooper S ragtop (with LSD and DSC!) and I just bought a new (perish the thought) Honda CR-V.....what can I say? My hobby truck will never die...I can go back to wrenching on just that, & not my car anymore.... Basically, I wanted to pass on a good working, functional Legacy to someone who could work on it and deal with the usual issues. Sounds like it'll do you right! keep us (and me) updated on your mods, and experiences with the beast! should I say....live long and prosper? keep the sube karma going.... adam
  2. What can I do to bypass the MAF temporarily just so I can move the car a few blocks away from where it is parked? the bad MAF isn't allowing starting, like it's an open connection. thanks!
  3. What's going on with the soob? Fuel Pump Diagnosis? Hello, everyone - I've been gone awhile, life/job/kids/etc....you know how it is. Well, the soob in my life (which until recently had been running like a champ, torque-bind notwithstanding) has decided to run progressively poopier the last month or so. Yes, some basic health care for my car might be the answer, but I went ahead and changed a new fuel filter and air filter as well as oil/filter change about a month ago, and nothing really changed performance-wise. Here's what she's doing: Starts up fairly well, no big smoke cloud, but randomly erratic idle (very lopey/bumpy - then smooth), and when I drive off, unless I am super-gentle on the accelerator (I'm talking bEYOND imagining an egg under the pedal) she stutters and pops a bit, kind of backfiring sounds....then it goes away, just as soon as it starts! On the road, she's smooth on the hi-speed end, but in stop-go city driving, she's erratic again. clues: I replaced the main oil seal and timing belt and that was done by me, and it's holding up fine, timing seemed just fine, although I haven't shone a light on it... the throttle body is'nt leaking fuel or anything all cables/accelerator linkage seem smooth and not binding... last clue: my starter switch is acting up as well; sometimes it takes twenty turns of the key until something fires, others, the starter kicks right in. I bought a terminal kit for the starter, but haven't put it on yet. my theories: OK, the basics...spark plug wires, plugs, (but they were replaced recently also), coil, fuel pressure regulator, bad fuel injector, ? car is a 94 Leg Lsi with non-turbo 2.2 and AT/AWD....156k miles I'm thinking fuel pump, myself.... thanks!
  4. hey, maybe this is the wrong panel to post this, but I need to swap my driver's front axle/cv joint on my 94 Leg Lsi AWD/AT wagon. if you have a rebuilt/NOS/new one to sell/trade, please contact me! thank you! adam lee
  5. Hey...I am trying to figure out if the "connector" straight pipe with resonator, which goes from the cat to the muffler bent pipe, can simply be replaced with a straight 3' length of pipe. What I'm asking is, the resonator factory-style pipe isn't necessary right? Walker pipe sells a straight section to fit this application for 39 bucks at Advance Auto....better than the nearly 200 with a resonator...
  6. Yo! It's all better. Simply bled the air out via the plastic bleed nut on the left side of the rad...yeh, this is why I read thru this board. I'm due a donation to USMB as soon as I get to my home PC.... another season to go until I trade this old girl in for a gently used later-model Forester S model with sunroof and 5-speed! enjoy the snow
  7. OK, so I got to school and started thumbing thru my to-do list....looks like I'll be doing the work tonight well after dark! Probably while the snowstorm begins! Excellent, dude! Adam Lee
  8. thanks. I'll process all this in my head and attack it after work today. just the thing to be doing when there is an impending nor'easter headed our way! Adam Lee
  9. Alright, guess ir's my turn to vent. Was having no probs w/ the sube at all, suddenly today crawling home in traffic (at 30 degree temps) the heater quit heatin' and the temp gage went high....almost to the top. I stopped at the nearest McDonalds, got out, saw that immediately my lower hose at the radiator had popped off at the radiator. Figures that, since a few months ago I had replaced the oil pump seals and the timing belt, my hose clamp connection was simply not tight enough. OK. So, I walked up to the store, dumped in some fluid. Luckily, my girlfriend was there w/ her car...she followed me less than a mile till it showed an overheat again on the temp gage, and NO HEAT....so I knew Hey, it's the thermostat stuck open! (or closed) Anyway, I went to the parts store and got a t-stat. Drained all the antifreeze, swapped t-stats, poured back in. After running the car to get it up to temp, it instead went to the middle for a bit, then shot up to hot again, and AGAIN no heat...just blowin' cold air. Well, waddya think? Water pump? Anyway, we left the car in a neighborhood and came home in the Mini (her car: '05 Mini S convertible, supercharged) and said heck with it for tonite. Ideas? Thanks! Adam Lee
  10. Thanks, Josh....I surfed all the pages you posted on your own starter solenoid job....that is 100% what I believe my issue to be with mine. Thankfully, I have a backup car...so I can allow some downtime while I locate the contact bits! Again, thanks for the help, and the links...I KNEW there was another way to go instead of buying a rebuilt starter right off the bat...
  11. thanks....now I've got a direction to go with my checks this wkend. adam
  12. Suddenly, she is not starting. Haven't done any tests yet, just hopped in the cruiser instead... reminds me of when my old (65) mustang had a bad starter relay solenoid. does my 94 Leg wagon w/at have same type of separate starter relay solenoid? or is it just a bad starter switch? where/what do I check? back to class with my 3rd graders... adam
  13. That last post I wrote was in terms of just popping in a good used JDM 4x4 low-mile tranny until I find a donor 5spd 4x4 body for my ultimate project. Price is right, and at least I can roll the dice and take advantage of the (brief) warranty period. I'll be interested in seeing what the innards of the extension housing look like compared to my well-worn unit. Anyway, the next adventure will be a pretty straightforward plug-n-play, maybe if I'm having a cognizant day I'll take some documentary footage. Could be fun... Adam
  14. Alright, gotta leave in a minute to take my 3rd graders to recess. I want to swap my old 4EAT/AWD tranny from my car for a 5spd eventually, but I have a good lead on an inexpensive JDM trans I could just r&r. Anyone have any experience with these used take-out jap domestic model parts packs? I've heard they are all low-mileage. Would the internal diffs be a completely different ratio than my USA 4EAT? thanks! Adam
  15. any folks hear of east coast soob junkyards/recyclers who are reputable with component sales? in other words: good yards that sell fairly decent whole trans/engine packs, etc...already removed from vehicles? there are a million of them, but I always appreciate a little inside info on the "good guys"... ISO 5spd MT and AWD unit for a swap into my 94 Leg Lsi Wagon (4EAT & bad transfer unit) thanks!
  16. gracias, my friend...those scans made things much more clear. If I can ever run across a 5mt/AWD wreck, 91-94 wagon, I'd be set....partial to my 94, since it's an LSi and all the accessories & sunroof actually work....and the body is good.
  17. Thanks, I took a look at your photoalbum and guide to get a feel for the work involved. I was hoping that I could get a real brief explanation of the mechanical differences between the transfer unit used with the 5 speed, versus the transfer unit used with the automatic. Essentially, I wanted to ensure that what we're working with here are two completely different beasts. If the 4EAT "awd" unit works via hydraulic fluid and clutch packs, is this essentially a viscous coupling style transfer? And would the 4wd unit sending power to the ft/rr diffs on the 5-speed cars be more of a mechanical transfer? I have absolutely no books (other than Haynes) so I really don't have any quick reference to walk me thru it. Plus, since I just started another school year 2 weeks ago with my 3rd graders, I'm more than a little spent as of late. not too much time available for gearhead activities.... Is the 5-speed that mates with a standard 2wd legacy the same housing as one destined to live with a 4wd legacy, but just with a different tailshaft or something? If that were true, then theoretically I could start collecting generic 5-speeds and keep an eye out for a transfer case/4wd tailshaft extension....knowwaddimean? adam
  18. Hello, after thinking more about it, I would like to hear some more about swapping the 5mt trans/tranfer into my 94 Leg Lsi wagon. The 4EAT will probably duke it out for several more years before the binding becomes unbearable, but I really don't want an AT anymore anyway. Which platform vehicles, years, and specific trans/transfer packages are direct bolt-in for the 91-94 body? And please, explain the 2 different transfers to me, as far as which ones (pushbutton or d/l) were optional for this package. Which one will I run into more often? Should I be looking for a wrecked 91-94 Leg with intact 5mt/transfer, or just keep surfing junkyards & message boards? Not really seeing much. Any notes/ideas from folks who've gone this route would be appreciated, either on/off board, whatever. Trying to see if I can justify doing this versus buying a buddy's old 88 SAAB turbo 900 16v......I ran with the SAAB's for a number of years. He wants to sell me the SAAB for 1500, and if the 5mt swap is too time-consuming and expensive, I may just sell the Sube as is and invest in the SAAB. ok, time to get back to school....40 min till my kids are back from Art class! (I'm a 3rd grade teacher) Ciao
  19. Hey all. Looking for online parts vendors that have given good service to people here, need to get some crankshaft & camshaft oil seals for my 94 2.2. Thanks! Any thoughts, drop me a line.... email toecutter642001@yahoo.com
  20. Thanks guys....sounds like I'll be holding out for an online Soob parts dealer at that price, especially since I can live with it till I eventually get the part. FYI, I succesfully drove the "oil bomb" home from my school tonight...I had no badness, just a nice blue cloud behind me as I went over 40/45 uphills and such. Now, she gets to sit and wait her turn for seal repair, because I must spend all my "spare" time on my Mutt M151A2....I am totally jones'in to get a few detail items done on that mutt, so I can be going "topless" this spring.... ciao
