  1. I've heard clogged fuel filters mentioned in the past.

When's the last time you replaced the fuel filters?

My Brat was in storage for a decade so she's getting all new filters, bearings, and such.

I have the first fuel filter- the one down by the  fuel pump, i could send your way.( an extra in me box o' parts)

The second filter is up in the right hand corner of the engine bay by the brake fluid reservoir.

  2. thanks for your replies jono and subruise.

I've been thinking though, couldn't i just use these two pipes for an aftermarket oil cooler?

I think what i may do though is just get the right radiator and sell this one at a good price here.

I could've returned it, but i cut that overflow hose.  DOH!

(it's still welded up though- so it would be ok to use in an E82)

I thought it funny that my radiator just had that radiator hose  and no overflow tank,

but upon searching I found that it was made that way. The E81 was vent to atmosphere- the radiator sort of works

as it's own overflow tank and spits out what isn't needed. The driver needs to keep an eye on it and top up when needed.

Keeping a bottle of some sort to collect the green juice would be smart though.

  3. As the title states, can I do it?

I should've checked before buying it on Amazon. Amazon had said it fit my Brat, but I

now see the difference. I have a E81 '85 Brat

The Spectra CU698 has the two pipes on the rad. cap side which I believe would be

for the overflow tank on an E82.

The overflow hose is also welded and crimped- I had cut off a 1/4" of it and had seen it was welded.

I could cut off a little more and use it as a overflow hose though as it's not filled completely.

The Spectra CU698 also has a proper plug on the right side, but i should be able to fit a  metal plug

and washer -right now it just has a plastic plug in it similar to the drain.

The fan fits though, and it lines up where it should with the two radiator bolts.

Can i just take the radiator to a shop and have the two pipes for the overflow tank brazed/welded up?

I should of ordered the Spectra CU84

  4. When i changed the ignition on my brat i just left off the chime wire since it drives me insane. Plus the lock smith i got the ignition switch from said he put a ignition in once for somebody at their house and he didn't get the wire in correctly so it shorted the car out making it so it didn't run which is why it was brought to nissan.

Thanks, I just checked my Haynes and it says it's a key warning switch.

I'm just going to leave it off as you did when i get a new fuse in and everything back in place

    later this evening.

  5. I'm experiencing  the same problem and mine is from the ignition.

I replaced the tumbler in the ignition module, as the old one was locked up.

The small plastic bump right under the ignition is the problem for me.

Remove the interior plastic pieces surrounding it to see it.

I think all that it does is just runs back to  a key chimer letting some scatterbrain know that

the key is still in the ignition.

What i hope is that it doesn't have to do with the ignition lock, as my steering wheel won't lock in place.

I was able to start the BRAT when the ignition was apart and i could turn the module in the back of the ignition with a screwdriver.

I also had hazards and horn then.*

*edit* - the "plastic bump" under the ignition was slid out and not making contact with anything- i had even taken the

Brat out on a small victory lap when i finally got her running again.

I have yet to check with the wiring schematic in my Haynes book or try to run the wires back to where they came from.

I plan on taking some pictures and was thinking of starting my own thread, but this falls under the same problem.

The copper "switch" in that little ignition module is making contact with the body of the tumbler and that is what is

    blowing fuses for me.

     * *edit*

  6. Thanks for the kind words and for keeping up with my thread :)

I'm about to change out the doors for some less rusty ones.

After that, I think it's time for a paint job. I'm really looking forward to doing that.

What color will you paint the Brat?

Mine is that stock shadow grey sort of color with red pinstriping and red Brat logo.

I like it and may respray it that color but lately I've been thinking about a nice Irish green

    with white accents.

My  '04 WRX was a  San Remo red, and I had it painted a  Cosmos Purple color that

was on the second generation of the GTO (04-06).
