  1. I had a similar problem. We found several issues: 1) wrong fuel filter. No kidding The correct fuel filter is very large and sits in a bracket that is mounted near the driver's side strut tower 2) TPS "issues" (of which there were several) First it was not mounted securely and was off placement Then a mechanic I had working on it properly "calibrated" it - a procedure I am not familiar with
  2. Where I'm at, they steal the fence too
  3. My 87 DL would exhibit "no heat" if/when coolant level was low. It also helps to work any air out of coolant system and then be sure level is up to top.
  4. Yup, it was a driver's side timing belt. Won't even go into detail on the bs with the mechanic it was taken to, but I will say if you and your Subaru are stuck in Cottage Grove Oregon, I would not be going to B&A Auto. Not only are they bozo's, they will likely tell you your car is an old POS. No kidding. The good news is we found a fellow down there who knows the boxers inside out, and will be taking good care of us. Thank you again to everyone here.
  5. My first rig, a 2WD 87 DL, never had a problem with the Lift Supports. That is interesting about the Legacy part being used. I have already ordered a pair that "appear" to be correct. We shall see...
  6. I just went through an ordeal I wish to share with the group. Bought a 90' DL Wagon a few weeks ago, pretty fair overall, but as probably many of us have experienced, the back door would not stay up. Well this ride is going (now gone) to my daughter who is mom to 2 of my grandkids, and there is NO WAY I want that guillotine around my grand kids. So, we went about looking for replacements. Easy, right? Well I went to Autozone (please go easy on me for that) and sure enough they sell those things and even showed a part for this car. Once it arrived, it was clearly not the correct part. As I looked around online I saw this was a problem not unique to Autozone. It appears many of the parts search engine / databases have this wrong. The part we received had a hole + bracket on one end (the top end) - which is correct, but it had a receptacle for a ball on the bottom end, which on this vehicle was incorrect. The correct part for our vehicle should have a hole + bracket on both ends of the Lift Support. In the end we found the correct part here: http://www.theautopartsshop.com/tailgate-lift-support/rz4949l.html This website shows a different part for left and right, the link above is for the left, but honestly I call BS on that and when the parts arrive I am guessing they are identical. I will try to get pics and update here. Thank you to all who contribute here, I am looking forward to getting back into these rides. 3rd Gen Leone Wagon is my drug of choice
  7. Here is what I know: Bought a 90' DL wagon (non turbo) drove around for a few weeks mostly no problems. In for brakes, stops VERY nice now. Sold / Gave to daughter who left Seattle area no problem. Around Woodburn Oregon, she reports the following: "CEL" flashed on, engine died. She tried starting, it will crank. Simply will not fire. Of course we will have timing belts checked - I don't recall if CEL comes on when one fails. Any other suggestions? As a side note I must say I am TOTALLY impressed with this forum. I've been reading for last 3 weeks since I picked up this ride. I did have an 87' DL (2WD) for 15 years / 200K miles and did most of my own work. I could do timing belts in under 30 minutes by the time I got rid of it :-)
  8. I had an 87 that had a similar failure. I replaced several switches but the problem kept coming back. Turns out the wiring harness to the connector where the switch plugged in had failed just past the plug. The harness was folded 180 degrees on itself durin asssembly. The largest wire in the harness is the 12V that switches through the ignition switch. The wire is a stranded conductor wire, and over time strands started to fail making the wire heat up, causing further erosion. I spliced past that wire and fixed it for good
