  1. I changed all 4 studs, used heli coils, drilled and tapped, put new ones in, took one hour max...worked great thanks again.
  2. I just got done changing both front axles becasue the right axle was leaking grease from the inboard joint onto the cat conv, firewall and engine. In the process I discovered the trans ( diff) bearings were shot so I put in a used tranny. I also changed the wheel breaings and ball joints, tie rod ends..( not struts yet). I drove the car 10 miles and grease is leaking out the same place on the new ( rebuilt) axle....seems too coincidental to me... What to do ?? TIA Paul
  3. Thanks, BTW I can make it almost to NH border in 5, I have speed limit issues...I'll search for the doctor first then try down towrads your way..Thanks again.
  4. and then I will have to play the drill and tap game?
  5. Do these tend to break when removing? Are they hard or impossible to repair? 87 gl wagon, no turbo, 4wd TIA Paul

  7. I am a newbie, so I am sure its been asked before..Where ( where is best?) can I buy a rebuilt 5spd 4wd RD for my 87 GL wagon? How much do these generally run? TIA Paul
  8. I had the cover off to change the seal cuase it was leaking, and I have excessive play in the shaft the bearing is defiantely worn.... Does the FSM say you can replace the bearing without removing and opening the transmission? Paul
  9. I have this cover off, and the race out. I tried to pull the bearing out but the cage and rollers busted lose and now I just have the sleeve on the stub. I have been told now that this is bearing is pressed on and needs to be pulled and new one installed by a press...do you think I can chisel off the sleeve and press one on while its in the car? It would save lots of hassle, but I don't want to wreck the stub or the tranny....
  10. Is it possible to pull that right bearing without taking the tranny out? I have an 86 Gl wagon 5 spd, 4wd.,and the bearing inside the round cover is shot...is there a special tool for pulling it? I have the axle out and cover off... I appreciate any help you could give me... thanks, Paul
