  1. I am also redoing the interior of my Brat right now.   All that rubber-ish black matt stuff that is glued to the floor was covering up rusted out floor panels.  The areas under and behind the seats were the worst.   I had to take a chisel and spend a few evenings scraping it off the floor so I could do some metal repair.  It wasn't until I had it all off that I could see the scale of the work that needed to be done.

  2. My 78 DL project is coming along.  Last night I was able to fix the transmission shifting issues by installing a new governor gear.  It shifts great now; however, when you try to make the car take off there is a significant bog and the engine nearly dies.   In order to get the car underway you need to baby the throttle.   It starts right up and idols strong, but there is definitely something wrong with how it is currently tuned.

Since its cold it might be running lean, and it is from Colorado which is several thousand ft. higher in altitude then Kansas City.   However, I don't know how to tune a stock carb.  My Brat has the webber swap.   Can anyone point me to some tuning articles or describe how to adjust the stock carb.

  3. I picked up another old Subaru.   A 1978 DL wagon that is a front wheel drive automatic.   It wasn't shifting at all so I changed all the fluids and it didn't help.  Read some forum posts and discovered that the governor gear is a common problem.  So I pulled it out this evening and discovered.... that it wasnt stripped, but just broken off and missing.

Here is a picture of that is left.   Can anyone link me to a replacement gear.

  4. I was browsing though the Ge1 one pictures and I saw a group shot with this Teal Leone.   I have the same wheels on my Brat and was wondering what they did to the suspension and wheel arches to achieve that stance.   Anyone know who's it is, or know if there is a build post?

  5. I have a 1980 Brat and the lights have stopped working.   I spent my Sunday trying to track down the issue, but could not locate the issue.

    Driver's Side Fues Box:

All the fuses are good.  Here is the order of fuses in my block starting at the top.

    1.  Brights

    2.  Headlights

    3. Running lights / markers, and tail lights.

The bottom fuse in the block is the main line in from the battery.   It has a strong 12.3V going across the fuse, so there is a good connection from the battery to this point in the wiring harness.   Also, with a spare piece of wire, I can jump power from the main fuse to the corresponding fuse for Brights, Headlights, Tails / Markers and get all three to turn on.   That means that the connection from fuse box to the end point of the lights is also good.

This means that the issues seems to be with the connection from the main fuse to the switch and back to the corresponding fuse for each light.  Thinking the issue might be the switch, I took it out and measured the voltage at the switch, and I was only getting around 4V.  This doesn't seem quite right.  To eliminate the switch all together I plugged wires in to complete the circuit and I am still getting 0V at each light fuse.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to check next.  Or if anyone had a wiring diagram for a GEN1 Subaru.
