  1. So my 94 Loyale will semi-start if I hold the throttle to the floor. When it does start, it barely keeps running with full throttle and it backfires (out the intake) the whole time. I purchased this car in this condition so I cant give much information on the history of it. I know the distributor & wires were removed, but I'm pretty sure I have it all back together correctly. Not getting any codes from the ECU either.
  2. Problem solved! Found 1 broken wire under the dash. Now the only problem is the engine fires, but doesn't really run. Thanks everyone!!
  3. UPDATE: Hazard lights are working, horn does not. My biggest concern now is no CEL and no light on ECU with ignition on. I'm guessing that this is not normal? I just tested the ECU in another vehicle and it seems to work fine. Now I'm starting to think it's bad wiring to/from the ECU.
  4. All fusible links are ok, and I have 12V on the 2 outer terminals on the ignition coil. I would think that's all it needs....power at the coil. I did a standard (primary, secondary) coil test. I've also noticed that the light on the ECU does not illuminate. On my other (running) Loyale it blinks 5 times every few seconds. In addition to that, there's no 'check engine' light when the ignition is on. On my other Loyale there is. Also, horn and hazard lights inoperative but they're getting power at the fuse box.
  5. I'm looking to swap the ECU in my 94 Loyale for diagnostic purposes. Does anyone know if the numbers on the ECU have to match? I have ECU's from a 92 and 93, but they all have different numbers.
  6. Good to know! Now I just have to find out if a '91 ECU is interchangeable with a '94.
  7. Not yet, thanks for the tip. I've barely had time to look at it yet.....are they easy to find? (I'm new to Subarus) ....little black box beside the coolant reservoir?
  8. So I've recently acquired a 94 Loyale which is not running. The previous owner crossed the jumper cables while boosting another vehicle, and since then the engine is not getting a spark. It turns over ok and seems to be getting fuel. Distributor and coil have been replaced and fuses/relays have been checked. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. I do have a running parts car.
  9. As the title says, my 93 Loyale has an erratic Idle. Anywhere from 1100 to 2400 rpm. It will idle at a consistent speed for a minute or so, and then the idle speed changes. On rare occasions it will do the 'ol rev, drop.....rev, drop....rev, drop. This is my 1st Subaru so I'm not quite sure where to start with this one. My best guess is Throttle Position Sensor. Any info on how to test it? Any suggestions/shared experience is greatly appreciated!
