I tightened the alternator belt and it still does it. It’s like the clutch is slipping but it also does it out of gear and at idle

Hi I have a question maybe you guys can help me out. I have a 1984 Subaru gl with 4 speed. When I start the car the rpm needle will jump up to like 2 or 3 and makes a weird sound then comes back to 1. This happening with it out of gear and sitting still. Now when I take off I’ve noticed it will still do it on acceleration and the car will loose power for that second that it’s happening. But once I drive the car for say 20 minutes it stops doing it. I had to jump the car off today and can hear a distinctive whining noise coming from the engine when this happens. Anyone have any clue what this might be? Thanks

Wagon I would guess. 4 door with a door in the back.

Here’s the two bolts that fell out. Seems kinda funny both on one side but what ever. Hopefully easy fix. Wish me luck

Is this a rag joint? This was a one owner 1984 Subaru gl and all I’ve done to it was change it from a automatic to four speed dial range.

So I seen this the other day but had no one to turn the wheel for me. So I called my daughter over to help me and here’s the problem. 2 missing bolts on one side allowing the whole thing to slide back and forth and even pulling the casing out. Seems like a easy fix. Wish me luck

There is a rag joint but that’s not the problem. I’ll look it over again after the rain. I don’t think it’s anything visible.

I have a 1984 Subaru gl. So I was driving the other day and noticed that when I turned the wheel to the right that it turned more than normal to turn then turning back to the left it turned from that point so that going straight the steering wheel was pointed to the right like I was making a right turn but I was going straight if that makes sense. So I go home and wth the wheels pointed straight it will immediately turn left when he wheel is turned like it should but when turning it right it wouldn’t immediately turn and seems that the slower I turned the wheel to the right the longer it took for the wheels to start turning even tho the wheel was being turned. Any suggestions. Seems super dangerous and I’m afraid to drive it like this.

Hi I have a 1984 subaru GL. I replaced the clutch about 6 months ago so im not really sure what my problem is so here goes. Sometimes when driving the rpm will jump a little bit and you can feel a kinda thump or knock through the peddels and the shifter. It of course started slowly but now it's happing more and more and I feel like I was lucky to make it home last night. I have a vid of it but for some reason can't post it here. Is it the clutch slipping? Somthing more simple? Will this leave me standed? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Lifting the front of 84 wagon question
Gwywnc replied to Gwywnc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This site has tons of info and I have searched but can't find exactly what I need to lift the front of my 84 wagon 2". I don't want to buy a lift kit and really don't wanna mess with the strut bolts you mentioned. -
how do I lift the front of my 84 wagon? I think I would use two 2" blocks on each side of the front but the two studs wouldn't be long enough? Can some one help. My tires are rubbing, I lifted the back with the screw under the seat but the front still needs to be higher. Thanks

Hi, I have that old problem were my starter relays are going out and some times it will start and sometimes it won't. I have a donor car but don't know were they are located or what they look like. If someone can help that would be great! 1984 subaru gl

I got new hubs and put some 195/75/14's on my 1984 subaru gl and was wondering if there is anyway to lift/raise the front maybe half a inch or a inch easly? The tires I have rub the outter fender slightly when I turn to the right. I don't want to hammer or cut it cause this car is in almost perfect condition. Thanks!

Advice on engine replacement and or head replacement
Gwywnc replied to Gwywnc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a whole good engine in donor car, I'm just wondering if I just switch the engines will I need to unbolt or do anything with the trans? Or will the engine just slide right back in place?
