  1. I tightened the alternator belt and it still does it. It’s like the clutch is slipping but it also does it out of gear and at idle
  2. Hi I have a question maybe you guys can help me out. I have a 1984 Subaru gl with 4 speed. When I start the car the rpm needle will jump up to like 2 or 3 and makes a weird sound then comes back to 1. This happening with it out of gear and sitting still. Now when I take off I’ve noticed it will still do it on acceleration and the car will loose power for that second that it’s happening. But once I drive the car for say 20 minutes it stops doing it. I had to jump the car off today and can hear a distinctive whining noise coming from the engine when this happens. Anyone have any clue what this might be? Thanks
  3. Wagon I would guess. 4 door with a door in the back.
  4. Here’s the two bolts that fell out. Seems kinda funny both on one side but what ever. Hopefully easy fix. Wish me luck
  5. Is this a rag joint? This was a one owner 1984 Subaru gl and all I’ve done to it was change it from a automatic to four speed dial range.
  6. So I seen this the other day but had no one to turn the wheel for me. So I called my daughter over to help me and here’s the problem. 2 missing bolts on one side allowing the whole thing to slide back and forth and even pulling the casing out. Seems like a easy fix. Wish me luck
  7. There is a rag joint but that’s not the problem. I’ll look it over again after the rain. I don’t think it’s anything visible.
  8. I have a 1984 Subaru gl. So I was driving the other day and noticed that when I turned the wheel to the right that it turned more than normal to turn then turning back to the left it turned from that point so that going straight the steering wheel was pointed to the right like I was making a right turn but I was going straight if that makes sense. So I go home and wth the wheels pointed straight it will immediately turn left when he wheel is turned like it should but when turning it right it wouldn’t immediately turn and seems that the slower I turned the wheel to the right the longer it took for the wheels to start turning even tho the wheel was being turned. Any suggestions. Seems super dangerous and I’m afraid to drive it like this.
  9. Hi I have a 1984 subaru GL. I replaced the clutch about 6 months ago so im not really sure what my problem is so here goes. Sometimes when driving the rpm will jump a little bit and you can feel a kinda thump or knock through the peddels and the shifter. It of course started slowly but now it's happing more and more and I feel like I was lucky to make it home last night. I have a vid of it but for some reason can't post it here. Is it the clutch slipping? Somthing more simple? Will this leave me standed? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  10. This site has tons of info and I have searched but can't find exactly what I need to lift the front of my 84 wagon 2". I don't want to buy a lift kit and really don't wanna mess with the strut bolts you mentioned.
  11. how do I lift the front of my 84 wagon? I think I would use two 2" blocks on each side of the front but the two studs wouldn't be long enough? Can some one help. My tires are rubbing, I lifted the back with the screw under the seat but the front still needs to be higher. Thanks
  12. Thanks that's just what I needed! Really think it would need realinged? I just payed 70 bucks for a alighnment
  13. Hi, I have that old problem were my starter relays are going out and some times it will start and sometimes it won't. I have a donor car but don't know were they are located or what they look like. If someone can help that would be great! 1984 subaru gl
  14. I got new hubs and put some 195/75/14's on my 1984 subaru gl and was wondering if there is anyway to lift/raise the front maybe half a inch or a inch easly? The tires I have rub the outter fender slightly when I turn to the right. I don't want to hammer or cut it cause this car is in almost perfect condition. Thanks!
  15. I have a whole good engine in donor car, I'm just wondering if I just switch the engines will I need to unbolt or do anything with the trans? Or will the engine just slide right back in place?
  16. I have a bad valve that's causing my 1984 subaru gl to mis on one cylinder. I have two questions, #1 can I get the engine out without needing to unbolt the trans and taking out the drive shaft? #2 would it be easier to just replace the head and if so can someone tell me how tight I need to get the head bolts? Thank you
  17. I haven't done any of that, is there a way to check the compression at home without a tester? And it says not to adjust the valves
  18. I have a 1984 subaru gl, it has been missing since I bought it. It is only missing on one cylinder. I have replaced the plugs and wires and the distributor cap and the one cylinder still has a mis. The plug is getting spark. I can't figure out what else could be wrong. Anymore have any advise? Thanks
  19. Problem solved! There are fuses n the fuse box and there are relays under the hood AND there is a round glass fuse under the steering wheel bottom cover, I found it by accident. I had tried everything I could possibly think of and had already said F it, winter is coming. So I was stuffing the wires up so I could put the cover back on when the A/C came on! So I crawled under there and dug until I found it and it wasn't blown it was just not making a good connection, I twisted it and it works fine now. Makes me wonder what else has hidden fuses?!?
  20. I have checked and rechecked fuses, I have taken the relays apart and checked them, the only thing I can think of is that the main switch has went out. Can someone give me some advise on the easyest way to get those switches out? Will I need to take the whole dash out? Is there anything else I should look for? Thanks
  21. Can anyone give me some advice on what other relays or fuses I need to check? Recap: no fuses are blown, the a/c blower works when connected straight to a 12 battery, replaced the relay under the hood... Thanks
  22. I don't have a electrical diagram. I have researched it and I thought that there was just a fuse in the fuse box and a relay under the hood. Can anyone tell me were the other fuses or relays are? Thanks
  23. Hi, so my carb on my 1984 subaru gl is junk and sometimes it idles high and sometimes it idles slow. Anyway when running the A/C and coming to a stop it will kill the engine so I would turn A/C off then back in when I start moving again. Well the other day I turned it off and it wouldn't come back on... There are no fuses blown, I hooked 12v battery directly to the blower and it ran, I figured it could only be the A/C relay so I replaced it and still the A/C won't come on... Can someone give me some advise on how to fix this? Thank you
  24. I'm not sure if it will do it in reverse, just started today, what ever is happening it sounds like somthing is hitting the bottom of the floor board.
  25. Hi, and now another problem So when I drive and brake there is a "clunk" sound that can be heard and felt, it will do it once but not again until you drive for a while. When I push the brakes slowly it doesn't happen but when I break like normal it will happen... Any ideas? Thanks
