  1. Are they the springs from King? They are good springs, a great upgrade.

The Kit we Are looking to do will utilize Aftermarket Springs....

    Sorry Perry....

I can't give out the secret yet, but suffice to say, that if your willing to trim a bit of fender you can get much Larger Meats on anything you stick this Kit into.....

  2. John,

How are you going to improve tire clearance? As you said, you don't get any greater clearance for tires with the Scorpion lift, but that is because of the wheel openings and the inner fenders. What is your solution. I want bigger meats!

I already have the Scorpion springs in my 03, which are really great! Will that interfere with your kit? Want a test mule? ;-)

I am still working with Sean on a kit for his Baja....This guy bought an Aussie Kit from an outfit down in California....

Sean cussed it for 2 days installing it.....It had issues....

Once we Proto-Type our Design on his Ride , We will start selling them thru Rallitek to folks.....

Major Difference between the Aussie Kit and the One we are doing is Tire Clearance......:) That one doesn't gain anything for larger tires....Ours will let you go as far as you are willing to trim the fenders..... :slobber::eek:

I do have to say the Guy Left Rallitek Packing one Of My Baja Bumpers.....Should have it Mounted shortly if Not already...... :headbang:

  3. I just installed Scorpions on my Baja, they also fit the Forester. I did not need taller shocks, but I did look for some. Never found them.

The only thing you will not notice is the decrease in down travel. But, I have not noticed it at all.

So, judge for yourself. As I said, I didn't find any taller strut inserts or shocks to replace the stocks with. If you know of any let me know.

  4. I have finally landed a set of Scorpion springs for the Baja. Now, I am wondering if there is a longer strut available from somewhere that I can use in place of the stocks in order to get back some of the down travel I am losing to the springs.

    Anyone?

    thanks, Perry

  5. Inlet NY? You're gonna need a heck of a lift to get up out of that snow! ;-)

All the guys I have talked to said that all the instructions were included. I think on just one occasion the wrong bolts were supplied, but other than that it was easy, if timer consuming.

That si what I have heard. I havent been able to go there myself...yet!

  6. I like my Baja.

Use it to carry kayak gear mostly, so the wet smelly stuff stays outside! :-)

CR recently reviewed the Baja again and gave it a Best Buy recommendation.

I have an AT NA. If I did it again I would get the manual. But, the AT gets better mileage and that is what I wanted. Trying to make up for all those years in a Grand Wagoneer.

Buy a new one! Do us all a favor. Buy a new one! At the time I got mine, with the incentives in place my new one cost less than a used one. Go figure.

  7. Both those places are trying to get Scorpion stuff again. Also, one may be importing springs directly from the maker, King. Stay tuned.

One more thing, a lift kit is being designed for the Baja which may well be usable on the Outback. It should be available in a few weeks accorrding to the guys at Rallitek. Best part is it will be made in the US!

    Stay tuned.

  8. I have an 03 Baja, and other than the oft noted lack of power it is a nice vehicle. Apparently installing a nice fat exhaust system does a lot to fix that problem.

The ability to haul larger stuff in the back is great, and although the pass through is too small, I can still stuff a good pile of long lumber in there.

One thing I would tell you is to forget about the factory cross bars...they are fairly worthless. Get Yakima or the like. More wind noise, but that are flat and wide enough to actually carry stuff, and they have a lot more attachments too. In fact, forget what I just said...want to buy a set of genuine Subaru cross bars? ;-)

It's a nice car and I am getting 26 mpg in my NA auto version. I have not come close to 28 ever, but that's an epa number, so don't believe it.

I say buy a Baja, and get the net for the interior, it will keep all the junk that fits behind the seat in place when the back is down.

We need more Baja owners. We want more Baja owners! Let me know how the bike carrier works too.

  9. Just got my Baja sideways (unintended) in a slippery interesection in traffic! No contact, but a real wake up call. I was going uphill, and turning right at a light. Fronts started slipping on the hill and curve, backs came on, and care was sideways before it could respond. Nothing I am not used to from my old Grand Wagoneer, but I didn't expect it here. Oh well, fun was had by all!

  10. So, I am wondering where you got your springs? I am having a tough time locating a set for my Baja. Tried Xcelleration and others, where did you get yours?

    Thanks,

    Perry

Finished most of my mods on my Legacy this year.

    Come and have a look:

    http://offroadsubaru.blogspot.com/

Low range is about the only thing left to do, but I think I'll have to find a tranny down under in Australia, since there are no low range manual subie tranmssions in the states . .

  11. I have never looked for them on Ebay, but i guess they are same thing. I saw them on a 4x4 suspension site. These are made by Daystar and are polyurethane. They mount either under or on top of the spring, depending on the vehicle. (I am NOT referring to those little rubber coil spreaders. I have tried those on another car and they lasted to the end of the drive way!) The had sizes for everything but Subaru.

I wonder how I could tell if they will fit and 03 Baja suspension?

I like that idea of being able to remove them.

  12. Since lift springs are proving hard to locate, I am looking into the alternatives to lifting my Baja. The spring perch mod. seems to be a good one, but not easily undoable if need be. But, it got me thinking about the possibility of using Daystar or similar spacers under or over the springs to lift them. This would be the same solution as Mudrats, but less permanent.

Has anyone ever tried this on a Subaru, or on another vehicle?

  13. What about installing a small block/bracket---lifting your existing spring up an inch or so?

    Humm....

    Glenn

    82 SubaruHummer---serious clearance!

01 Forester---poor clearance and gears to match! :banghead:

Mudrat has told me he can do just that for me. He adds blocks to the lower spring perch. He will send complete units ready to install. It sounds like a good plan B is I can't find the springs, but I think I want stiffer springs than stock.

  14. That is what I was afraid of. I was hoping for a quick adjustment that would keep it out of 4th (OD) until about 50 or better mph. Oh well.

These transmissions don't really have an overdrive per-say. 4th gear is really the over-driven gear.

As for the shift patterns. The AT's like to shift all the way up to 4th gear, regardless even if you're just doing 25 mph. My AT did that in my car. What you may be feeling is the torque converter locking and unlocking.

Either way, I'd say it's fine.
