  1. Because: uber-special Subaru tools < paying mechanic to use his tools. And if you screw up with homemade improvised tools = paying mechanic to use his tools + paying for parts you boogered up. Simple math.
  2. There are about 8.3 million sites on the internet that list the codes. No need to go digging about a ratty Haynes manual.
  3. Got a new O2 sensor from dealer. Told parts guy that service said I was SOL. He knocked the price of the sensor to $60. Put it on. What a pain. You can see it but there was no good way to reach it w/o burning yourself. Took far too long to remove. Next time I may just drop the exhaust. Didn't reset the CEL. Will wait to see if it resets itself. Run nicer now tho'.
  4. Dealer wants $80 for the front one. Apparently Autozone wants to recoup their cost for the "free scan" When I had it scanned at AZ I was backing out of the parking lot before the "technician" was back inside.
  5. 1st post! Howdy everyone. Great forums, informed members, good info. Wife's 2000 Outback Sedan had the O2 sensor replaced under a recall about 3 years ago. Just yesterday CEL came on with a P0133 (front O2, if I'm correct). Local service dude at the dealer said, tuff luck, you're out of warranty. I'm tempted to remove said O2 sensor from vehicle and insert in said service dude. An O2 sensor that lasts only a couple years? Anyone familiar with the original recall?
