Collapsing valve lifters
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnd I thank you for the info. The pump was scored a little, so I'm replacing it. Question, if the hole was half way plugged would it limit the oil to the lifters??

Collapsing valve lifters
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNew update. I pulled the oil pump this afternoon, and the oil discharge port was half blocked by a large gob of what looks like ultra grey, and the oil pump back cover had one screw backed out.

Collapsing valve lifters
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThank you for the reply. does the leaking oring limit the oil to the head?? The reason I ask is because the lifters go dry, but just the top ones. thanks again.

Collapsing valve lifters
Hello everyone,, I have a '95 impreza with a 1.8, 5 spd. When I got it the engine was very noisy, (valve noise). I checked the lifters and the 4 intake lifters on the drivers side were collapsed. I replaced them with new lifters and it was quiet till I drove it about 15 miles, then the noise was back. When I pulled the rockers again the same 4 lifters were collapsed and the lifter bores were empty of oil. The lifters on the exhaust side are fine. I'm stumped, if anyone has had this problem, or seen it,, what is the actual problem?? Seem to be oil supply, but I don't know for sure. I do know the oil passages in the rockers are open. Thanks in advance

scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXno It's never smelled flooded. these cars don't have a fuel pressure test port do they?? since it starts so quick with start fluid I'm thinking it's starving. it's getting 25 mpg and plugs look like it's burning good. I'm going to take a couple pics to show how different the two engines are.- cold start problems 95 imprezza
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwith a shot if start fluid it will start right up. Also as I said I have two cars. Both are '95 imprezza outbacks. one runs great and is an automatic, but has serious rust issues. The one with the start problem is a 5 spd. both are 2.2's. The thing is the throttle bodies are completely different. The 5 spd car has some sort of speed control deal on top of the TB, the automatic has none of it. is whats on top of the TB the IACV??- cold start problems 95 imprezza
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the replies. I replaced the temp sensor with no change. Today I cycled the switch like Lucky Texan suggested, still wouldn't start. It does eventually start, but it takes many times of cranking , and cycling it off. When it does start it is barly running about 4 or 500 rpm. It dies if I hit the throttle. If I just let it run like that for about a minute or min and a half it will smooth out and sit and idle at about 1g till it warms up. Drives good at that point. I have two cars and have changed the maf, coil, wires plugs, all new. temp sensor new, I was going to swap pumps, but they are different. one car has three lines, and the other has two. I'm stumped.- cold start problems 95 imprezza
Hello all I have a '95 outback Imprezza with a 2.2 engine. It is very hard to get started on the first start of the day. It acts like it's not getting fuel. After about 5 tries it will fire up, but idles rough and slow for just a couple minutes then smooths out and goes right up to cold idle. After it warms up it runs great and starts right up. Let it set for 5 hours or so and it's the same thing. I'm thinking that the fuel pump is not holding prime and has to reprime the system after sitting. I guess my question is ,, has anyone else ever experienced this?? Thanks- power to stereo on a 95 impreza
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThank you all for your responses. The adapter won't do it because there is no power in the factory plug. I found one blown fuse in the box under the hood, but not sure what it was for. I don't know which fuse is for the radio, because I don't have the owners manual. Thanks again. might have to run my own wires- power to stereo on a 95 impreza
I bought a 95 impreza and the radio was trashed, so I'm trying to install an aftermarket one. I have no power on either the switched(red and yellow) wire, or the unswitched(yellow) wire. I only have a chiltons manual and it has a vague diagram and it don't show the radio wiring. Has anyone else had this pronlem, and if so what was the fix. Thanks- Head oiling problem.
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHello again. I pulled the rocker rack off and I think the lifter o-rings are bad. I can't seem to find anywhere that carries them tho. General Disorder said they were 40 bucks for 16 of them. Where can I get these? thanks- Head oiling problem.
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI should have thought about Marvel oil. I'll give that a try before I tear into it. Thanks.- Head oiling problem.
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm pretty positive that it's lifter noise. It's only on the passenger side. GeneralDisorder mentioned lifter O-rings. The car sat all winter after the engine cleaning and the orings could have dried out possibly. I don't see how it could be wear, cause it was much quieter before, and ran fine. Actually it runs fine now, just has the noise, and the dry cam has me worried some. I'm going to pull the rockers on the passenger side and see how the lifters look. Thanks again everyone for the responses.- Head oiling problem.
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThank's for the responses. I'll try to answer all questions. The noise is definitely valve rockers, and is only on the left side. I changed the oil and filter when I was doing the work. I'm not sure about the lifters, but could be. The thing is that the noise was not there before the timing belt change. I don't think it is lifter click, it is louder and more pronounced.. I don't see how it could be piston slap, as I've never seen a piston break for no reason. I have another question,, Where does the oil feed the head, and could some diry maybe restricted the flow. Does anyone have an oil flow chart I could see??. I'm working with a chilton manual, and it is very vague.- Head oiling problem.
scdrtramp replied to scdrtramp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCar has about 180 K on it, and has run fine for over 10 K that I have put on it. I replaced the belt because the last known change was 89K. I changed all the idlers also cause they were rough. I also fixed some small oil leaks, and cleaned the engine. Never really did anything to the passenger side. Also replace all rubber hoses. I don't think it is related, just that it started after the work was done. I pulled the valve cover and the cam , (what you can see of it) seemed dry. There was oil in the cover when I pulled it tho. Also it seems to quiet somewhat after a few miles driving, but not completely. Thanks for the response. I'm kind of new the subaru world.- Head oiling problem.
Hello, I have a '95 impreza outback,(non-turbo), it has a 2.2 engine. I had a new timing belt kit installed and when it was done, the passenger side valves are very noisy. I pulled the valve cover and the cam seems to be pretty dry. The noise is the worst when first started, then quiets some after a few miles. I change the oil regularly. Has anyone had this same symptom, and what was the fix. Thanks- Why better fuel door on 95 Impr L than on 96 Impr OB?
scdrtramp replied to brycarp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks, Matt167 for the reply.- Why better fuel door on 95 Impr L than on 96 Impr OB?
scdrtramp replied to brycarp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHello all, I have a '95 impreza outback. The fuel door is gone, and I am wondering what the interchange is between '95 and '98. I can't find a new one. I found one from a '98, but not sure if it will fit. Thanks in advance.- 98 Impreza Hatch Rattle
scdrtramp replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy rattle seems to be the "strong arms that support the hatch when open. I have tried a few things, but they are loose on the ball that bolts to the hatch. Will new arms fix this rattle??? THX in advance.- instrument panel lites
