  1. I just got a 2012 Impreza 2.0i Limited. Great car for a great price with low mileage so I had to do it. But I REALLY wanted to get one of the SPORT models that had roof rails, among other things. Is there any way to install the factory roof rails like from the sport models on the Limited models? I dont mean cross bars, I mean the rails that go parallel to the body of the car. I know there are places on top of the roof to install rails, but everywhere I've looked, people only discuss the different possibilities of crossbars, not roof racks like the Sport models have. If anyone can shine any light on this subject, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Funny you should say that I75eya because I did that exact thing today. I disconnected the throttle cable and I found that it didnt reach far enough, so it was pulling on the throttle the whole time. I feel a little silly but am so relieved to know that it wasnt something more serious. So I took the bracket that holds the throttle cable housing and drilled a new hole on the bracket behind the original hole to bring the whole cable forward and it now fits perfectly. Thanks for your input guys I didnt set the timing ferox, and I'll be showing my ignorance by saying this but I dont actually know how to set the timing. I'm sure I can thumb through the manual, but anyone have any tips on setting the timing? and maybe knowing when the choke is adjusted properly? Cause I adjusted it, but I did it arbitrarily just to see if it would make a difference and I'm not sure it did.
  3. So I just did the infamous swap in my 81 GL 4WD wagon from the hitachi carburetor to the 32/36 Weber. Got it all installed yesterday and it started! which was amazing, but then the idle immediately started rising and wouldnt stop. It kept going up to 5000 RPMs and I had to shut it off. So I adjusted the high idle screw and the idle mixture screw with and without the car running and and it did nothing to curb the really high idle. Not sure what to do to get the RPMs down, the only thing I could think was to get a fuel pressure regulator to get the correct PSI going to the carb and maybe that will even it out? Any thoughts on solving this? Also, after about the 5th or 6th time we started it, when we turned it off, I believe it shot fuel out of the carburetor, luckily I had just stepped away from the engine. But that would lead me to believe that I definitely need that fuel pressure regulator to bring it down.
  4. Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna go with buying the weber new to give myself a little piece of mind cause you never know what youre going to get used and I dont feel like I have the experience to troubleshoot a million problems if something goes wrong. I have plenty of time right now, and $300 isnt that much to pay knowing its gonna work better/be easier to work with. I'm all about saving time and energy and I can relate with not wanting to deal with the "scanning and bidding" and "Oh I need different jets and oh wait the adaptor I just got in the mail is..." that ihscout54 talks about. We'll see how it goes.
  5. Now that you say that I'm leaning more towards the $300 "optimal thing for my engine" option. $300 seems a small price to pay to get this growing problem out of the way without pulling my hair out over the "what the f@$& are all these pieces and where do they go?!" scenario that I've seen many times on this site. Although I won't be doing any of this til at least next week so I'd really like to see the diy video when you're finished with it. Send me the link if you wouldn't mind when its done. Maybe I'll change my mind and have a go at rebuilding the hitachi and saving a few bucks. I'm assuming the adapter plate is included with the carb if you buy off weber directly? Thanks for the input.
  6. If it helps, I did not say rump roast. The system corrected it for me. I have never/will never use "rump roast" in the place of butt in a sentence. Would love some help on this, if nothing more than the "look two posts down for the same question dummy" that I feel like I deserve for this post.
  7. 1981 GL wagon with an EA81 engine and the original hitachi carb in it. I definitely have some leaks throughout the carb and am having consistent issues because of it. None are significant yet, but I want to take care of it before it gets bad. I need to do something about it, but I'm not sure what route to take. Should I try to rebuild the carb, or just replace it, and if I replace it, what should I replace it with? A weber or a 3rd party carb from national carburetors or something like that. I don't have experience doing any of these things, but I feel like I can figure it out and I'm wondering what the best option would be with both $ and time in mind. Basically, what is the least of a pain in the rump roast to do myself and wouldn't cost too much, but would ensure that the car runs properly in terms of the carb for a long time? Thanks!
  8. ok. thanks for the input everyone. I wish it wasnt so damn cold in Chicago and I could actually work on the car outside.
  9. BumbleBeast, You're right, I left out a lot. 1981 GL Wagon EA82 Engine I think (or EA81?) and I did spray the carb with carb cleaner a month or two ago and it changed the idle speed indicating that there is a leak, but I'm not positive that the leak is what is specifically causing the erratic RPM behavior. The carb issue was kind of an aside that maybe it might have something to do with the wonky RPMs. I was told its probably the distributor by someone who doesnt have subaru specific experience. Just wanted to see if anyone had some insight into it. thanks
  10. 1981 Subaru GL Wagon Its not just the gauge. I can hear it from outside the car around the engine. The RPM needle will shoot up quickly, then drop back down in erratic spurts, and the engine will sometimes not react quickly or lag when I change gears and give it gas. It will sputter and eventually get up to speed. The RPM spurts happen the most at idle speeds, but its beginning to happen in all gears and up to 50 mph. Could the distributor be the problem? Anyone had a similar issue? I've also had a little trouble with the carburetor, there might be a leaky carb gasket. I've got to pump the gas 5-10 times before I start the car for it to idle without cutting out. Anyone had a similar issue?
