  1. You can't torque to the same spec with multiple gaskets. They crush more on the edges and will cause the manifold to bend and crack.

You need to remove one or both sets of gaskets and use silicone RTV or anaerobic sealant on the flange.

Remove the manifold, if the crack is not through the intake runner, you can use JB weld to re-attach the broken peice. You'll have to clean the paint off of the area around it and be sure to pu the manifold on a perfectly flat surface. Use a large clamp to hold the peice tight to the manifold.

Thanks, somewhere, I was advised to used two gaskets when going with the phenolic spacer . . . I will pull intake tomorrow to see flange crack, I have a feeling that piece will come off in my hand when I remove . . . JB weld? Really? I know the stuff is strong . .

  2. I've had my intake off for weeks and had cleaned it, painted it and made 8mm phenolic spacers. Today, while torqueing down the flange bolts (new longer bolts with antiseize) I heard the unmistakenable "ting" and saw that the flange bolt closest to cylinder one by timing cover had cracked! I was torqueing to just 20 foot pounds when this happened and was torqueing in sequence. WTF! Is this common? Should I have it welded or just throw away and find a new intake? Some days . . . . . grrrrrrrrrrr

  3. 3---4

    1---2

    radiator

It was harder to see in there than I hoped since there's some loom over the wires plus the wires are dirty/dusty.

4 definitely has a yellow with a red stripe. The other 4 wire was a darker color to be honest hard to tell because of the dirt looked like brown with a blue stripe possibly.

2 looked like green as one of the wires

1 had yellow with a red stripe for a wire (like 4 did too!) and yes brown as the other wire as you mentioned.

3 was blue with a white stripe and I didn't see the other too well.

Hey, thank you, that really helps! Thank you for taking the time!

  4. Hi, just starting to put my EJ22 intake on after cleaning/painting, etc. So far, I replaced badly cracked knock sensor, cleaned crank and cam sensors, cleaned IACV, PCV, sprayed electrical connections with electrical contact cleaner, cleaned throttle body and sent out injectors for cleaning (one had too much resistance and the tech believed was not firing . . . in spite of this, I thought engine felt pretty good. I resealed CAT to muffler. Timing belt was done a year ago, plugs were changed recently. I did just learn that a faulty coolant sensor can lead to a run rich condition (how common is this?) and from my perspective, I was running rich prior - fuel mileage was not great. I am also replacing fuel pressure regulator as I noticed that I had the original still on this '94 Legacy EJ engine. Anything else to look for in order to make this engine run at peak efficiency? Thanks and happy holidays Forum!

  5. Hello All, I have my intake off and while it is off, I wanted to reseal injectors and some of the reference articles I have read make it sound difficult. I am less concerned about removal but more about finding the correct o rings - anyone have a source with sizes or just sizes?. My injectors are black. the orings for the rail to manifold should be replaced too - anyone know the correct sizes for these as well? BIG THANKS!
