  1. Just currios, but what year did subaru start using cv joints. I'm no expert but I didn't think they had them in the 84s yet??
  2. I do this too, and have wondered aboout wear as well.Gonna check my governer soon to see.
  3. When I first bought my 87 gl wagon my rear defrost wasn't working. Upon pulling off the trim panel off the inside of the hatch I discovered most of the wiring was REAL badly melted. When I have the time I'm gonna run some fresh wire , but until then I've pulled the fuse. I actually remember reading a TSB on Alldata about this problem but can't seem to find it now.
  4. Changed my fuel filter the other day(87 gl ea82 carbed) and it seams the fuel pump is pretty vulnerable looking back there. Does anyone have that area protected by a skid plate, or even relocated it?
  5. I recently put new speakers in my 87 gl. From what I saw it would be realy easy to develop a leak thru any door, particularly were the lower part of the window meets the body. I actually just finished resealing the rear hatch window, and it was not that difficult although very different from door windows.
  6. I tried all those links and theere weren't any locations close by. I'll check to see if I can find local napas. Thanks all for the quik responses.
  7. After reading all these articles on sea foam I can't seem to find any locations near me that sell the stuff!! Any ideas, I don't mind a bit of a drive.
  8. and I thought I got ripped off when I paid $1600 for mine!!!!
  9. My family ALWAYS goes to bellinghan as it aviods costoms line ups, but apparently there was some kind of seat sale flying out of Van Intenational and no-one told me about it until I started driving in the wrong direction. Of course it then became my fault cause I'm sapossed to be psychic:banghead:
  10. Ack!! Someone goofed, ended up at yvr instead!! I'll try and get down there on fri or sat.
  11. While searching for parts here I came across a thread about a parts yard near Anacortes. I can't remember who wrote it but they mentioned something like a hundred old subies!!. Not sure if I believe those numbers but any yard with more than 20 subies warrants a road trip!!(plus if I'm let down I can always just keep going and go to Deception Pass).
  12. I'll be dropping family off at the Bellingham airport and plan on "accidentally" taking a wrong turn and visiting the sooby graveyard I've been reading about just east or south of anacortes. If anyone wants me to keep an eye out for anything let me know. Also I'll have my digital camera with me so if you want any pics let me know.
  13. HA HA:banana: Those posts are hilarious!!!!!! I'm going thru the same problems right now with my gl carb problems!!!! during the techs road test hestalled my car and couldn't get it started, he called for back-up and the 3 other techs on at the time drove out to help him. They tried for an hour to get it started to no avail!!! I show up with my cheapy Canadian Tire battery booster, stick a pen in the choke plate(flooding problem ) and let her turn over a couple times and she starts right away:grin: .
  14. I've had this 87 gl n/a for two years without a problem until the other day. Almost anytime below 3 grand during acceloration it will bog down, and try to stall. It doesn't do it over 3000 rpm or 60 km's. I replaced the feul filter about two weeks ago as well as the air filter. It's in the shop right now ,they(Fountain Tire) pulled off the air cleaner assembly, used some carb clean to no effect. They also did a compression test(acceptable levels). Upon inspection the tech noticed fuel coming in an(the?) air bleed. They searched locally(Surrey, Canada) for carb rebuild kits but could not find one so advised me to go with a rebiult carb which they quoted me at 900+ pre labor!!!. In two years I've spent maybe 500 bucks can. on my sub and the carb is quite rusty in parts, also my exaust is starting to sound like a lawnmower do to all the rust holes. So I told them to go ahead as I need it asap for wosk and don't have time to go scrounging around junk yards. What do yall think???? By the way this site rocks I spend so much time reading the posts that my significant other says I might not be getting laid for the next month unless I promiss her to stop visiting this site!!!!!!
  15. When the trans. modulator diaphram(?) rupures or breaks, tranny fluid is sucked up the vacuum line and into the cumbustion chamber, which then shoots out copios amounts of white smoke. BUT, if you're smelling something like coolant in the smoke it is definetly not the mod. When I originaly read you're post I missed the part where you mentioned smelling coolant burning,
  16. Have you checked the transmission fluid levels?? I had similar symptoms on my 87gl and it was the transmmission modulator. The modulator only costs about 15 bucks(cnd)
