  1. Trans-X seems good. I found many happy users. I don't know what causes slipping, or if slipping is a part of leaking, but I just have a leak. Hence, I'm trying to select something that directs all its energy on stopping my leak. The nature of which, btw, I really don't know. Thanks for your help.
  2. Thanks. Is the trans front seal part of the trans or the pump?
  3. Hi, My 1990 Legacy automatic transmission has developed a leak. For 15 years I regularly checked the ATF level, then bam, one day it was low. The leak is from a gap cut into the the transmission housing, but is actually the ATF pump. It is leaking about 300mL per hour of idling. At 25 years, a transmission teardown just isn't in the book. But Josh slightly suggested a chemical fix. My question is: which seal is leaking, and what chemical leak solution is most likely to stop the leak?
  4. Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry, but there is no glamour here. As an engineer (electrical), when I needed a new car I researched what was available. As far as I could see, the Legacy was the best price/value choice. As I generally used public transportation, the car was used by wife and children. She took it to the dealer as required for all periodic maintenance. When the dealer abandoned us, I took over maintenance. I tried various mechanics, but found they were reckless and destructive (e.g. cross-threaded sparkplug #1). There was a major bias against non-american cars. The car deserved better. So I have shepherded her into old age. The more I work on her, the more I tend to elevate her engineers into the status of saints (or whatever the japanese equivalent is). Maybe more later.
  5. Hi, I have a 1990 Legacy 2WD wagon L. It is my second Subaru, and I bought it new. Original dealer dropped Subaru S&S, so I have been taking care of maintainence. 912126
