Ive been lurking here for quite some while, finally decided to join up. Seems like a great place for old subies. Way back in the day, like many a young man, I lusted for a Brat but just never could afford one. As time went on just kinda got over it. The wife recently decided she wants a 2016 Outback for her commuter, so that old interest got aroused, I did not know just how rare the Brats had become. I recently came across one fairly local. I was allowed a new toy/project as long as I got rid of one of my others. I traded even a 1986 chevrolet sprint (how many of you remember those) that was my daily driver, for the below Brat.
It’s got quite a bit of lower body rust, but nothing of any major issue that cant be fixed. Runs good when you can keep it running, more than likely carb related. It does have a factory label under the hood that says it was modified for high altitude running though I doubt that to be
the only problem.. All glass is intact except for some lighting lenses, interior is in very decent shape just dirty. It has a few oil leaks but nothing major. I plan to get it back on the road reliable. Fix the rust, rebuild the carb if it will take it, do a top end refresh and complete reseal. Then either try to find the parts to either custom build or transplant a factory AC system (yeah good luck finding). Living in Central AL, AC is a must have. It did come with the optional AC kit, but from what I understand that is just the complete wiring part and the dual crank pulley.
Trying to get together some parts to get started. Anyone with any experience or info into doing a custom AC, the info would be greatly appreciated.
