  1. Anybody out there got any, or willing to take any pictures of how the AC compressor mounts in these things? I do know that it usually comes with a rather large mounting adapter that also accomodates the alternator....curious what it all looks like from above. Thanks for any help.
  2. Thanks guys....not my first build on a forum, I'll try to keep it interesting. On the AC...Yeah I guess so.....but I'm used to the AC sapping the power from a 3 cyl 47hp motor. In Central alabama, you either drive them all year if you have AC, or come summer you park them. Those that have never lived in the deep south, cant imagine what they are missing. Ive done a few AC mods in my day where I canabalized entire sytems out of similar sized cars from junk yard finds, and made them fit whatever I wanted. So far, all I have not been able to find brand new is the condensor coil and hoses. The compressor, evaporator, Dryer and expansion valve are all readily available new for about $300. Any condensor coil that would fit the space would work, the interconnecting hoses and such would be the hardest part. Dinky, thanks for trying to help out on those parts request.
  3. Ive been lurking here for quite some while, finally decided to join up. Seems like a great place for old subies. Way back in the day, like many a young man, I lusted for a Brat but just never could afford one. As time went on just kinda got over it. The wife recently decided she wants a 2016 Outback for her commuter, so that old interest got aroused, I did not know just how rare the Brats had become. I recently came across one fairly local. I was allowed a new toy/project as long as I got rid of one of my others. I traded even a 1986 chevrolet sprint (how many of you remember those) that was my daily driver, for the below Brat. It’s got quite a bit of lower body rust, but nothing of any major issue that cant be fixed. Runs good when you can keep it running, more than likely carb related. It does have a factory label under the hood that says it was modified for high altitude running though I doubt that to be the only problem.. All glass is intact except for some lighting lenses, interior is in very decent shape just dirty. It has a few oil leaks but nothing major. I plan to get it back on the road reliable. Fix the rust, rebuild the carb if it will take it, do a top end refresh and complete reseal. Then either try to find the parts to either custom build or transplant a factory AC system (yeah good luck finding). Living in Central AL, AC is a must have. It did come with the optional AC kit, but from what I understand that is just the complete wiring part and the dual crank pulley. Trying to get together some parts to get started. Anyone with any experience or info into doing a custom AC, the info would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Dunno why.....but you can always manage to find the left hand side ones, but rarely the right. I guess that right rear corner must be a blind spot on these things? Havent driven this one enough yet to know if it is or isnt.
  5. Dinky, sorry, hope you dint take that the wrong way. New here on this subie forum and surely not trying to ruffle any feathers. I actually placed an order for the items on Sub parts dealer, the order was rejected so I called and talked. I was told that they did still have a few in stock a few months back, but that the parts page had never been updated when they went out. I then called the subpartsdepot and was told basically the same thing. KEEP me in mind when you part out that 83. Ive got some feelers out on some other sources, but it aint looking to promising. I need both a Right rear lense, and a right front turn lense. Thanks, MIke
  6. and whats crazy about it? I called both about lenses for my 82 and was told by both no longer available.
  7. Effective this day 6/25/15 neither of those sources mentioned above, have or can obtain any lighting/lenses/etc for 82 brats.
