  1. I have a 2011 Legacy with 55k miles on it and just today it started idling kind of slow when I came to stops, and almost acting like it was going to die on me. I also noticed that when that happened, it was slow to accelerate when the light turned green. I'm worried about stalling on the road. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
  2. According to Carfax, my car is due for a 45,000 mile maintenance inspection. Nothing is going wrong with my car so I would only be taking it in just to have things checked out. I'm a little nervous about doing this, hoping I don't get overcharged for anything. I am not real car smart to know what it might need or not need. And yet I hate to neglect getting the check, in case anything does need to be fixed. Just wondered if anyone else had thoughts about maintenance checks or experiences or advice. I have a 2011 Legacy.
  3. Does anyone have any recommendations on getting new tires? My Legacy is due for new tires and I'm not sure whether to just go with the cheapest or if there's anything specific that is good to look for in the higher priced brands. I'm on kind of a tight budget but I could afford up to the medium priced range. I don't want to waste my money on something bad quality that doesn't give as much return for the money, but on the other hand I don't want to pay more for something that might not be any better than the less priced brand. So I thought I'd ask if anyone here was familiar with tires or had advice on what to get. I live in OK, so it's kind of an "all weather" type place.
  4. I have a 2011 Legacy and this morning when I looked at my clock display I saw the number 400 and a dash line and a couple of little symbols next to the dash line, I don't know what they were, just little squares of some kind. It was in the middle of the display window just to the right of the number showing the outside temperature. On the right side of the display area is the time. When I got to work the reading showed 390. I have no idea what that middle display means. If it's been there before, I haven't noticed it. Does anyone know what that is? I can't find a thing online about it.
  5. Thanks, wtdash, my car is in my garage overnight and I live alone, so I know it was only me getting into it. I drive about 13 miles to work both ways each day so that is enough to give the battery use. The dome light was not on but the dash light may have been showing the door wasn't closed all the way, I was wondering if that little bit of energy/light would be enough to impact the battery. My car is a 2011, 35k miles and I'm still running on the original battery, so I tend to worry about it.
  6. I washed and detailed the my car Sat, including the inside and I didn't entirely shut the car door, thinking I was going to do more inside, and ended up not doing anything else and forgetting. I didn't go anywhere all day Sunday and this morning when I got into my car the door opened a little easier than usual and I remembered I may not have closed it all the way Sat. It closed enough to latch but not shut tightly. The car started up fine but I'm wondering if that could have possibly been a drain on the battery. Does anyone know?
  7. If I push up or down it's the blinker, so that can't be it. I turn the part on the end for normal lights and then have to pull the level forward for the high beam lights. And it never clicks or stays, I have to hold it the whole time otherwise the lever just goes back to it's normal position and the high beams go off. I even looked at my car manual and can't find anything about the high beams other than pulling the lever forward.
  8. I bought a used 2011 Legacy with low mileage several months ago and last night for the first time I tried to use the high beams on a dark highway. I pulled the lever forward (toward me) and the high beams came on and the indicator glowed on the instrument panel, but the lever didn't click or stay forward. I had to hold it the whole time while I was driving. I see no button or switch or anything else with instructions on how to keep the high beams on. Does anyone on this forum know what I might be missing? Even my old '99 Honda had a lever that clicked in place for the high beams.
  9. Is it normal that the parking brake symbol (the picture of the car on an incline) green light in the upper right hand corner of the dash, comes on for a second or two when starting the car? I don't know if I've just never noticed it before or if it means something is up with the electronic parking brake. When I start the car I've been noticing that little green light up in the corner lately, coming on with the other dash lights that illuminate as part of the car starting. It's only on for a second, it doesn't stay on. But I don't remember seeing it before. I have never used my parking brake, I'm not even sure how it works. I'm having trouble finding info. online.
  10. These aren't very good photos but they're the best I can do. I have dozens of these little nicks and scuff type things on the front of my car and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas about how to smooth this over. I have tried the bug and tar remover, that doesn't do a thing, wax doesn't make it look better, nor does scratch remover help, cleaner wax, nothing. I guess it's just tiny rocks or road debris nicking the clear coat, I'm not sure, but I have no clue what to do. Each week when I wash my car there are more and more of these things. Any ideas??
  11. What do you mean by "compound"? I do that then Swirl-X then wax? The scratches/swirls on my car are not deep at all, and only visible from angles in the light. They are circular, like someone tried to wipe something into the small blemishes that are there (small dots that are lighter than the rest of the paint, maybe mild scuffs). My car is a 2011 and very new-looking, all I'm looking for is a gentle kind of treatment that will make it look better.
  12. There is a ton of different information online about what to do for scratches and swirls in the paint job. My car has a couple of minor scratches and a small area on my hood with mild swirls, where someone tried to buff out some blemishes. (I bought the car used). I don't want to use anything that would damage or worsen my car's finish. It's a 2011, still fairly new. The paint color is azurite blue pearl, and it shows everything. Just wondered if anybody else had tried any products for these issues or found something that works well.
  13. I was wanting some advice on keeping the front grille clean. I've noticed several little spots on the car in front that are typical just from driving. They almost look like tiny little bug spots or specks of grass or in some cases, somewhat hazy spots. I have tried the bug and tar remover on these spots and a lot of them just will not come out, using that or doing a little mini wash, running a damp rag over the grille...even using a little soap, and gently using my fingernail. It seems like it's stuff just stuck on there but it doesn't come off. Any advice? The car is a 2011 and is still fairly new.
  14. I have a 2011 Legacy and I just wondered what that bottom part of the grille is, it recesses deep into the car and leaves often are caught back in there, against a metal mesh-looking thing. Whenever I am washing the car I always wonder if it's dangerous to get too much water back in there. I never spray water from the hose into that area, but I just want to know if water getting back in there would be harmful. Tonight when I drove home from work a storm hit and it was pouring rain and the street by my house had water deep enough that there was spray coming off my tires about 3 feet high (that's how high the spray was flying up). The car had no problems mechanically from that but it still worried me, I couldn't tell how deep the water on the road actually was. It wouldn't have to be too terribly deep to get into that area on my grille.
  15. Showing off my new used Legacy, I'm enjoying it so much.
