  1. I have spoken with the owner. I found out that the engine wasn't replaced, not the whole thing.....just the short block! It was done back in Sept. of 2002. So...does this mean it's just wanting to burn up the head gaskets again? He said the the 4th cylinder cracked. It had 80K something miles on it. The mechanic at the dealership was able to convince Subaru to take of part of the problem...I.E.. They onlt supplied parts, they paid for labor! So, what does this tell me?
  2. Hi ALL! Well, I have seen a 1997 Legacy 5 Spd GT in my local paper? It has 123K miles on it, dealer maintaned. It has a NEW motor as of 38K miles ago??? So my questions in general are: just what problems does this year GT Wgn have? What about this replacement motor at 38K ago. I haven't called yet. I'de like to have my questions ready for the person. I'm going to ASSume that this replacement IS from the dealer. He does mention that it was maintained by the dealer! Let's say it was replaced 2 years ago, 2002. Would this 2002 2.5 have ALL the problems fixed that I'm hearing these 1997 2.5 motors have? Would it come with factory, transferable warrantee?? HELP??? Many thanks, SubeeTed
  3. Hi all! In my ongoing sink money or not issue...my '92 Loyale is still doing weird things! These are just updates, and hopefully clarifications! It's 208K miles, 5 spd, A/C (doesn't work) I only changed my thermostat! I hoped it would send my temp gauge down. It hasn't ! Yesterday was the first hot day again....I did alot of driving involving hills. The needle spent alot of time above half on the gauge! I know my electric fan works I heard it! So the qustion is....Head Gasket?? This thing would have died by now I would have think??? Or replace that darn Radiator??? I've got that WEIRD power/engine surge again! It happened yesterday while this thing is running hot again! In 4th gear, at around 3,200 rpm, it serged to about 3,700 rpm then settled down! I stayed in the throttle and did not try to control this event! I wanted to see/hear what was going on!?? IS it my clutch?? Why would it settle down and not just escalate up the tach??? I've been running Lucas Oil treatment for a couple of years to help get rid of that 2,500 rpm rattle that these engines have under load (in summer). Is this another version of this??? HELP! Or junk the '92 Subee!!! SubeeTed
  4. Hi All! I decided NOT to flush my system. I changed the Thermostat. Seems to run cooler. I'm not convinced till the next hot day, and a long hill! Meanwhile I'de like to check and see if I destroyed my head Gasket, I'de like to do that Hydrocarbon test thing online. I can't find one.....anybody got a link?? Many thanks again!!!! SubeeTed
  5. Hi ALL Again! OK, tomorrow I'm buying one of those "Inline" flush kits. The last time I did this....it was the UPPER heater core hose you spliced into! Well....I was going to pickup one of those kits. Thinking 1 size fits all! Well it DOESN't ! I was asked what size the heater hose was? Well.......I've never even thought about my heater hose till now! I opened the hood......WERE IS IT? Under the spare??? OF course ....it's a Subaru!! So, there is NO upper and lower! Just left and right! WHich hose do I splice into??? Does it matter!? Is the inside diameter really only 5/8? These cars are weird! But they do run a long time, make weird noise too!!! HELP!!! Many thanks, SubeeTed
  6. Hi All again! In my continual need to keep my '92 Loyale SW alive I need to Flush my raidator and cooling system. I went to Albany, Ny yesterday via Mass Pike/Rte. 90. It was only about 65 degrees. I didn't have the heat on, AC doesn't work anymore.....car not really pulling a load other than me doing 70-75 MPH. Yep, it'll still do it! It was an hour trip, it's hilly, long ones. But I noticed that the Temp gauge needle rising. Most of the time it was sitting above half. The car also has been eating oil on these high speed trips. It does have 208K miles after all! Anyhow....today I check the antifreeze in the radiatior, YUCK! Gross brown stuff! Time to flush and change, see what happens! Any tips on a good flushing??? Many thanks!!!! SubeeTed
  7. Hi! I think I remember another version of this! Be in 5th gear, as in start out in your driveway....let clutch out....if car dies quickly, you have a good clutch. If tach rev's, you have falling clutch?? Does this sound familiar?? Many thanks, Ted
  8. Hi all! My '92 Loyale just started doing some bizare things! I'ts a 5 speed, it's just front wheel drive with 207K miles on it. In 2nd and 3rd gear you can here and see (tach) the engine rev up a little, then go back down. This happens in the 2-3K rpm range. This JUST started! Are their any tried and true methods of checking for clutch death....or simple adjustment needed?? HELP!!!! Many thanks, Ted
  9. Hi! Thanks for the I-Club link! I just bookmarked it, sent the nasioc link to a friend that has one! THX, SubeeTed
  10. Hi ALL! Sooner or later My '92 Loyale Wgn will simply die at 206K miles, or it won't pass Mass. inspection do to it's rust. So I've been keeping an eye out for a afforable Legacy Wgn, in the 4-5 K range. I'de like to find a GT (Ha-Ha-Ha) Fat chance!! It MUST be A 5-speed, AND a color I can live with, Black, Silver, Red. Anyhow...finding a GT is probably slim, and I don't really want to go to far away for it. So...............I figure that I'll probaly end up with a 5 Spd. Blk, Silver or Red, L, Ls, etc. In order for me to live with this Soccer-Mom concept vehicle. I figure I'll put a nice set of After Market Rims on it. My questions IS, has anyone had any experience with this?? Does the All wheel drive thing make this difficult finding some? What about the offset thing? I'll probably end up with a 95-97 Legacy at this price point. Any ideas?? I'm going to keep stock size rim and tire!! Many thanks, SubeeTed
  11. Hi all! My '92 Soob Loyale Wgn has an oil leak. It leaks from the left hand side (passngr)up front, this is as if your standing in front of the car. Is it just simply a valve cover? Any ideas? Many thanks!! SubeeTed
  12. Hi all again!! Thanks for ALL the posts about our friend the EGR Solenoid! I scoured my Chiltons repair manual! I found a real break down of the Solenoid! It's part #7! It's for the SPFI 1.8 ltr engine. I hope you all can see it! You have to cut & paste to see PIX! This server won't allow "Hot-Linking"! Many thanks!! SubeeTEd http://tedztoyzz.freewebpage.org/EGR3.jpg
  13. Hi ALL! I'de like to replace the nasty dead EGR solenoid that keeps my "Check Engine Lite" on! I've heard descriptions of it....were it should be, etc.!!! BUT I'm just not shure! So I took out my Handy, Dandy Digital Camera. Took some Pix's of my engine compartment! You HAVE to cut and paste these to see them! I can't "Hot-Link" them from this freebie server! The first one looks like a round diaghram think, it doesn't seem to have electrical to it, it's on the back side of the engine, pass. side. The second is attached to the manifold, it's small, has electric to it. The third is just in the general area of the front of the engine, were the hose from the canister goto! It's real tough to figur this out from the pix's, lack of orientation! Many thanks!!! Good luck!!! SubeeTed http://tedztoyzz.freewebpage.org/EGR.jpg http://tedztoyzz.freewebpage.org/EGR1.jpg http://tedztoyzz.freewebpage.org/EGR2.jpg You HAVE to cut and paste these to see them!
  14. Hi ALL! I've been driving my '92 Loyale around now for over a year with the stupid check engine light on! I know that it runs well for 204K miles, not overheating, etc..! I went to the page below and found out that I have OBD1 old computer system! I found out that I can hook the 2 green wires in the engine compartment, next to the master cylinder, hook them up....then it goes away!..... Until of course, I unplug them!! Then It comes back! What happens IF I drive around with these 2 green things plugged IN!!?? Will car die of some horrible death!?? Yep, I could fix whatever the problem is....but I don't really know what the problem is!! From what I've been told the check engine light IS a problem with these old Loyales, it only pertains to emisions. and there are ALOT of sensores that go wrong!!! ANY ideas!?? STed http://www.parttrackers.com/library/1/93/106/
  15. Hi ALL! I'm having problems parting with my 92 Loyale Wgn, it gets about 30 mpg (2 WD only) in the summer, IF I'm behaving my self with the throttle (rare!) I need a wagon to haul me and my tools around. It probaly won't past Mass. inspection next Nov.. The Impreza is just too small and usless to me. This means a Legacy wgn, probably a 2.2., late 90's, 5 speed is a must, a need a AWD. Are their real things that can be done to improve fuel milage?? Easy, bolt-on, proven????? ANY ideas would help!! What do YOU get for real world milage in your Leagacy Wgn (2.2)5 spd?? Many thanks, Ted
  16. Hi all! I'm think of buying a 95-97 2.2 Ltr. Legacy Wgn. I'de like to make it more fun to drive, less Soccer Mom wagon! Anyone have any luck with Bolt-On add-ons to make more Horse Power, maybe even better gas milage?? Ya, I'm asking alot!! I need the room for tools! I'de like to make it FUN to drive!! Of course it'll be a 5 speed! THX, SubeTed
  17. Hi ALL! I have the typical Loyale 5 speed shifter problem! It rattles while you drive, you have to be carefull shifting, it's not "positive" shifting it anymore. I've had this "fixed" once B 4! It's here again! What's with this shifting ball, bushing problem!! IS there a "kit", you can get to take care of this because it's so typical!?? THX, SubeeTed
  18. Hi ALL! I'm looking into getting a GT Wagon to replace my 92 Loyale Wagon. What year do they start? What year cane I get the 2.2 Ltr, then when do they change to 2.5 ltr? Is there a "good" year GT and a "bad" one?? Many thanks, SubeeTed
  19. Hi ALL! First of all thx for all the posts about getting rid of the moisture in my headlights! What I finally did was,.... use a vacuum cleaner attachment thing I had hanging around. It's made for vacuuming computers. It reduces the size of the attachment. It has a rubber hose that I was able to sneak in after I pulled the bulbs out. I did this while I kept the headlights mounted in the car. I didn't want to bother with taking them out, then dealing with their correct alignment. Anyhow....I just vacuumed the moisture of with my Electrolux! WARNING! I know that it's probably a couple of tablespoons of water, but it's probobly not good for the vac, I have a donor vac I used! Anyhow, when I did this. I had to remove the battery on one side. The other side I had to get the weird cannister with the vacuum(?) hoses that come into it, and one that goes out of it and down the chassis. (Passengers side.)What IS this?? Does that hose that goes down just vent? Or does it attach to anything,....because it doesn't attach to anything anymore!! Many thanks all!!! SubeeTed
  20. Hi ALL! I live in Massachusettes. I'm trying to get my 1992 Loyale Wagon to pass Mass inspection! The inspector guy gave me a brake... and told me I need to clean up the moisture that has collected behind my drivers headlamp! I know this IS a classic Loyale problem! I don't want to replace the headlamp! ANYONE got a good fix for removing this moisture that creeps in! I've done this before with mixed results! Their must be a good way to do this!!! Many thanks to you ALL!!!! Subeeted
  21. Hi ALL! I need to replace my 1992 Loyale Wgn. It's encroching on 200K miles. I use it for my carpentry work. It's just front wheel drive, 5 speed. I get about 30 mpg in the summer, then about 28 mpg in the winter. Just what kind of gas milage do you get in a Legacy Wgn with a 5 speed?? Many thanks, SubeeTed
