  1. I was talking to a tuner the other day & he mentioned that the sensor hole location on the 205 vs the heads from the 2.5 is just a lil different. He was conserved that the sensor might only read part or 1/2 of the timing marks on the cams & would give a constant 5 volt reading instead of dropping voltage between the marks. I took my forester to Suba Performance on Friday. I have the 2.5 cams that I'm taking to them on Monday. I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to buy Kelford cams to fix the issue
  2. Yes Sir! We ground away part of the casting on & around the JDM head & cam sensor location & nearly impossible without the intake off. we also deleted the TGV's while the intake was off. We werent able to get a good O-ring to fit in the hole so we did our best to get 1 close enough & trim it down to fit the cam sensor hole. We temporarily FUJI Bonded the senors on because the hole for the bolt would not line up & was off by just a smidge! I now know that the little metal bushing/gromet inside of the plastic that the USDM sensor is made of needs dremeled to get enough clearance to get the small bolt in to hold the sensor for good! Yes, once the work is complete it will not go anywhere besides a tuner. what would you use for a spacer on the OSV mounting point. i cant really picture where a spacer would go & why. thx for the help
  3. how is everyone? i had a jdm question. Has anyone had experience with this issue?? lately i swapped the blown engine out of my 05 forester XT for a JDM ej205 turbo. my buddy & i used the stock USDM Intake & ECU to get around Colorado emissions. After getting it done we hauled it to the Tuner where we were told the cam sensors were not reading the cams. after mapping everything the tuner said he could pickup the passenger side cam somehow when he shouldnt have been able to. they gave me the OK to drive it 30 min home. just drive it like a grandma until it was fixed. that as far as its gone, it drove great on the highway @ 60. After talking to some Techs about the problem, it was either merge the USDM & JDM harnesses so the JDM cam sensors could be used with the USDM 2.5 Intake. OR it could also be fixed by swapping the cams in the JDM engine to USDM cams so the sensors would read. i was about ready to order Kelford cams & find a shop to do the work when i called around a lil more & i was told that stock USDM cams would work just fine. has anyone worked on or know of any other issues that i could run into by putting USDM Cams in?? i'm dropping it off next week @ the shop & hoping to track down any other tweaks that would hender the finish of this engine. i hope that will fix it. any info will help thx
  4. So this last weekend i went & looked @ a 93 legacy turbo that i wanna use as my donor car! i'm picking it up saturday! i'm currently have a few conversations going with a few shops here in the Denver area. i have about 2 months for it. pretty much take everything from the legacy & put it into the loyale. i need to get a somewhat detailed list of what is required for this so that the shop can get a better idea too. do any of you guys have a link to good posts about what you or other guys modified . ANY help or push in the right direction is apprieciated. if you have friends or names of shops that arent too far away that is capable of tackling this project for me with be helpful too. thanks, chris
  5. For some reason the timing marks wont show up. We bought a new timing light thinking the other 1 we had wasnt working right. We've looked in the manual but cant find any different info on how or what we might be doing wrong. i'm kinda thinking we need to pull the distributor out & reset it or look to see if its even lined up right. The green connections under the hood on the passenger side is plugged in while trying to find the marks but nothing shows? i'm a lil stuck, its leaking oil out out of the throttle body & down the air intake to the air filter box. its been sitting for a week & really need to figure this out. Anyone have any ideas? thanks, chris
  6. never made it to the junkyard today. there isnt any oil leaking from under the car except the Air filter box. & a tiny bit around the oil filter seal which is normal. ive had cardboard boxes under it for the last 5 days with that 1 spot the only spot that gets oil drips. i'm thinking i might strap a GoPro under the car & go for a drive. i spit shined every part of that engine & engine bay when i did work on it so if anything went wrong id beable to determine quickly where a leak is coming from & just easier to work on instead of guessing around an already oily soaked engine bay. theres oil coming out of the throttle body area. the hoses coming from the valve covers are oily too
  7. bought the 92 loyale a few months ago & did alot of work to it from the heads up. i felt like it drove great until 55ish where it seemed like it wanted to hover there for awhile. i tried dropping it to 2nd for a short while (suggested by a member) till i got to around 55 then putting back into drive. this seemed to help in certain areas of Denver. i recently last week took the loyalwithcheese back into the Mtns to Rocky MTN Nat Park where there is a pretty good amount of climbing! i played with 2nd a bit while climbing....i dont know what kind of rpm i was pushing up but id say around 4500-5500 @ most when it wasnt trying to switch gears. it felt like it pulled better but right before when it was ready for Drive & didnt want to do much more after. i had to play with the pedal & then wanted to jump gears & no really stay in it very long while also not able to drop to 2nd because i was up in rpms were too high. it was struggling. i know that this car is underpowered & the fact that it has a 3 speed doesnt really help in the Mountains. Maybe 1/2 way up i noticed a lil bit of smoke out the back in the rear view mirror which assumed was ATF burning a lil? it was windy that day so pretty much all sign of smoke was non existant. We got to our trailhead & snowshoed up into the mtn where we ended up dipping into the valley, camping & day hiking the next day. We got back to the car later that day & it started fine after the 2nd try figuring it was cold. i did hear an small new iffy noise but didnt think much of it because it kinda sounded like an exhaust shroud rattling. i had checked the oil 3 days prior to going back into the mtns, i added a lil bit & it checked fine. i def screwed up by not checking the oil before heading back to denver from the mtns. it felt like it was driving fine & the coolant guage was maybe 1/3 of the way & def didnt register HOT & hasnt overheated because the overflow tank is dryish. No steam/vaper coming from anywhere. 75mph @ 5000rpm for 30 min was the hardest i went. when i got home & pulled into the driveway i was hearing a really bad knock & thought the worst!!! it was late so it had to wait for the next day to diagnose. i checked the oil the next day & it didnt even register on the stick!!!!!!!!! i literally added 3 qrts of oil. i drove it slowly around the block a few times shut it off & did that 3 times while checking oil levels. i left it alone for an hr & restarted it & magically i didnt hear ANYTHING. the tick on my lifter wasnt even there. (oh...but the tick came back the very next day...i thought it was a gonner but i think its here to staaay) i havent taken it very far since except letting an out of town buddy use it to go to a few concerts here in town. He drove it 40min back & forth for a few days with no problem. i'd say that a 30-45 min drive might be burning/leaking 1/3-1/2 qrt. Granted that theres a small chance it coulda been a lil over filled prior doesnt explain the fact that the oil is being sucked up somehow & then dipping down (here the kicker) INTO the air filter & out of the bottom corner. the exhaust smells normal & fine, no atf,oil or coolent smell that i can determine. over the last few days since my buddy left town i took it to get emmisions tested & it finally passed (THATS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY) It doesnt smoke while running. the color of the smoke is white in the smorning & throws a lil condinsation. but thats normal. ive checked the cooolant & havent lost any...checked the upper & lower hoses for heat & theyre hot so i think my thermostat is OK (its brand new). Over the last few days ive developed a starting issue. i feel like its getting too hot & doesnt want to start. when ive driven it days prior we were only driving to a destination & it sat for a few hrs. i drove it to the gas station after getting emissions done but stopping home for 30 minutes & it started fine but wouldnt start again @ the gas station. eventually i asked for help & someone pushed me into a parking spot where i locked it up & was offered a ride home. my buddy & i went back up later that evening to swap the PCV valve (replaced with old pcv from when we did work..old 1 still seemed ok so i kept it). it started right up no problem. yesterday i drove it 20min to BMV to get my license plates. after it sat 1 hr 30 min it started & drove home. i had also had the battery & alternator checked the day before aswell. i'm stumped & no idea what could make me loose that much oil & why its getting hot? i'm going to the junkyard today to pull @ coolant temp sensor off of a loyale & see if mine is bad or the other 1 shows something different OK so i just went out to check the oil & run up to the gas station & got nothing on the dipstick. i put in 1.5qt & got a reading. now i have to go get more oil. ive dropped $70 in oil over the last week. it was fine on oil when i left the license brach & a 25 min drive lost me 3 qts. 9. when i leave the house thru the neighborhood it shifts @ 15mph then @ 35-40mph depending on how much into the gas i am.... by then i go for a short distance & slow down to turn right to get onto the highway. The Onramp goes downhill. By the time i get to the merge i'm going 45-50 & get to 55mph shortly after but the speed is 65-70 ... everyone that comes up behind me has to switch lanes because i'm not speeding up fast enough. this is about the time that it no longer wants to even budge past 55 (kinda like driving a 20" U-Haul Truck)....& after the gas peddle goes softish is when i try to press it further & it'll grab & go into OVERDRIVE or whatever you want call it. i got it to hold a lil longer the other day but was sure how far i could take the thing. before i go uphill a mile later i feel & ever soft difference & i get play back in the peddle & able to do whatever i want & usually get up to 80 with no issue & then its smooth sailing from there. there are other places where i drive that i have the same issue?

  11. THX..Ya Dude....i dont think I could get a better deal/ situation than what i fell into & it was only by chance that by buddy said "Hey, you should buy this. It made sense after moving to Colorado & your best friend being a Certified Subaru Tech. Ive been bumming rides for awhile & it was that time. i have a beater truck in Indiana & a 76 CJ-7 Jeep that needs a lil more work that i'm wanting to get rid of to throw some serious $$ into the Loyale. I've played with the idea of getting a Lifted Cherokee & selling the others. I need & want the cargo room. Every A-hole out here in Colorado has a Jeep. NoOne has a Loyale Lifted & very very few @ that. it seems like most are part of the Washington Club. i smoke & have smoked in every car ive owned. this is so clean that i cant bring myself to smoke in it. Pretty sure I'm in Love with this thing...lol. I was literally crawling into the engine bay to clean everything from the oil on the crossmember up including every part on the engine while it was out. The Loyale & I have gotten pretty intamate over the last 2-3 months...lol.
  12. A few months ago i purchased a 92 loyale from a kid who had gotten it from a family friend (88yr old Grandma) who babied it & was probly garage kept LIKE NEW,a fender had been replaced, im assuming Gma did quite make the garage...lol.. He had it for a lil over a yr when he tried to drive thru a high area of water & ever since it had been blowing white smoke. His mechanic said it was the transmission. It had 130k on it so we assumed it was the headgaskets or both, so I was able to get the car for $300. My buddy is a Subaru Tech but never worked on the older generation soob, so we replaced everything (Gaskets from the Heads up,cam seals, oil pump, fuel filter, timing kit, ect.) no valve job or valve seals replaced). We did all this & checked everything & it ran & then smoked. shortly after i drove it the smoking stopped for a few days,it smoked when i turned left or right. thats when i looked it up & found this site & found that i was burning AT fluid & tracked it to the Vacuum Diaphram on the side of three 3 speed trans. it had no fluid when i bought it we had only added a lil & forgot to put more in it somehow with all the other work we were doing. it was about $600 in parts & $600 to my buddy for the work, i helped with most all of it. As soon as we replaced that valve the smoking stopped after 2 min. we checked all the fluids & its been running really well ever since. so i might have dropped $1200 for something that could have only spent $50 on. I have tho noticed i have a lifter tick & it accelerates well isnt shifty but when i get up to 55 it wants to huver there for too long i feel . atleast a mile or so down a straight highway. The gas peddle wont do anything when i feather it or press way down. when i do manage to get it to do something it revs to almost 5k for maybe 1-3 seconds & wont hold rpm? It seems like once it gets about 60mph i sorta feel like something kicks in & the peddle responds. i feel like it could be a vacuum thing. We've checked & replace like every hose or vacuum lines. when im in traffic & everyone is getting on & off exists going 55 & not having to get up to speed fairly fast everything responds well. i just know something is a lil off & trying track it down. i know its a slow car & i'm not trying to get anywhere that quick but . other than all that its doing great & looking forward to lifting it & turning it into my adventure vehicle. thx, chris
  13. I've been debating on a 6" lift. I dont want to have to cut anything, but a lil cut might be inevitable? I figure, i only want to lift it once, & i want it done right. 6" lift might be needed is due to the fact that in the Spring of 2017 .....After I finish hiking the "Pacific Crest Trail" this 2016, I plan on traveling back East in 2017 to the "Appalachian Trail" where i would like to do TRAIL MAGIC (helping, feeding, giving rides to Hikers into & out of towns to get resupplied on food, beer & rest!) for HIKERS walking the 2,189 mile trail from Georgia to Maine. During this 2-3 month stint i want to pull a 13 or 16ft 1500lbs max Casita or Scamp travel trailer with me as home base. I know that i will need to upgrade the engine. I still need to do a more research on the best engine swap combo for the loyale. 2.5l? Right now Now i'm just glad its running & has new tires, mine has a few kinks but Is As CLEAN as any Loyale could be for a Colorado Grandma owning it NEW till 2013. i was told i might want to run an 8" lift to fit the transfer case. its hard telling the diff lifts on somethese loyales. here are some of the loyales that i think could be close to an 8 inch lift. i'm just trying to get a better idea on how deep i'll have to dig into my pockets & the full scope of the project loyale lift v.html
