Hey greg, is that your old outback or did you get another one? it looks very different.

    hey wheres the hatch at?

  2. alignments will not get rid of shaking.

shaking is cause by other things, tire balance, axles, wornout steering and suspension parts, broken mounts and sometimes wheel bearings.

if this has a suspension lift you will have shaking issues all the time due to stress on your inner axle joints (DOJ).

  3. i would strongly recommend not drilling the wheels!

if you really want to use these wheels iwould drill the hubs out and knock out the 2 studs that dont line up, drill the 4 extra holes knock the 2 studs in 2 of those holes and go to the part store buy the extra studs and install in the 2 remaining holes.

    Bam! 6 lug conversion.

i did it on my 86 wagon, love it, good conversation piece. but try and get the right drill size, mine was a little to big and now after 7 years of running them i need to weld the studs in.

to drill the hubs just knock out the 2 studs bolt the wheel on with the 2 remaining studs and lugnuts then either mark your hub or drill through the wheel just be careful not to drill the wheel or get a steel wheel from a wrecking yard as your drill template. any 6 on 5.5 wheel will work for your template wheel. i drilled mine on the car but it would be better to take the hub off and drill it off the car, they are not hard to remove.

BTW! you will need a BFG to modify your wheel wells to keep them from hitting when you turn and probably have to cut your fender wells. a lift on your rig will help reduce this modification some.

BUT! if these are 16" wheels they may not fit on your car without low profile tires.

  4. i just put some 225/70-14 open country A/T on pug wheels on my 84 GL wagon (EA81). they rub slightly need to trim a little more off the front edge of the front fender, they rub under hard braking and hard cornering.

i haven't taken them offroading yet to see how they do but the are a 26.6 dia. and 8.9 wide.

BTW my wagon has no kift but the suspension cranked by the factory means. i had 215/70-14 blizzaks on before and they we're 26.10d x 8.70w.

i will try and get some pics posted up here soon, they sure fill the fender wells though.

  5. picture.php?albumid=141&pictureid=1203

here is some up travel for you, this car has all ea81 suspension.

this is my 84 wagon has aftermarket kyb struts and shocks, i'm running a 1" rubber spring spacer in the front and the rear torsion bar is cranked. i'm also running an lsd rear end and 215/70-14 blizzaks in this picture. and this thing wheels just fine and i have never had any problems getting any where with it. it has plenty of flex and this picture was taken during a camping trip in eastern oregon, it is fully loaded with gear and 2 teenagers.

no this will not do any rock crawling but it is very good in the mud, good in sand and really good for general trail use with some minor hardcore use but nothing wild since its my DD.

again as has been said before quit worrying about about what it doesn't do and just go wheel it and have fun. if you want more go and buy something different.

  6. ok well i haven't been on here in awhile. i posted on this right after it went up but i'm not going to be able to do anything until march. so have fun guys i'll be ready next month.

  8. its seems like almost all of his threads are pretty much worthless.

he does more thread starting and posting then actually getting any wheeling experience with his subaru the way it is.

i'm with the other 2, just get out and wheel it, have fun and start threads with pictures of you wheeling it or of it dirty.

i've been wheeling mine for about 6 or 7 years and it does just fine the way it is.

  9. The steering geometry changes when you move the wheels forward, it creates negative caster, which improves the steering response in corners and curves going forward, but it makes it less than ideal for backing up.

    -Bill

moving the wheels forward is positive caster, this increases steering returnability or response. moving the top strut mount forward of the wheels is negative caster, this kills steering returnability.

  10. :(

    DANG IT!!!!!

i knew i would regret not going but i did get alot done.

hope theres as good a turn out next time when i can go.

Glad to hear you guys had a good time.

Now lets see some more pics:popcorn:

the white hatch there in the middle of the pic with the brat, hatch and wagon. is that cody's from the st. helens area?

  11. well, i hate to say this but it looks like i'm out for this trip and i hate making this decision just because of the group of soobies that are going. looks like this is going to be a great group to go hang out on the dunes with but i don't have a choice right now. i haven't been able to get my car ready even though all i need to do is put on my new tags, the seats i got from cmiller and install my cb radio.

but, the main reason for me not being able to make this trip is because i need to get serious about my move out to estacada. i have alot to do before the end of next month and because of my work schedule i don't get much time to move. so i should be all done by late february to make the next trip.

As for me. I put on my new shocks and realized that that rear wheel bearing is more sloppy than I thought...... I'll proly just use a needle grease gun to get this run out of it. Don't think I'll find new bearings for an old GL locally in time to have them in for the run anyway. (plus they are $$$$$$$$$$, though I found them online for cheap)

jason, the bearing aren't hard to get any part store should be able to get them with in a day if they don't have them in stock. i can't remember how much they cost though.

  12. thanks for sharing the picture, those are some awesome views. what mountain is that in your last picture, Mt. Lassen?

thats a very clean looking wagon you have there. :slobber:

  13. Awesome.

    I'll work for it.

Yeah 9:30 in Estacada is not too early. I'll give ya a call. If your going up Hillockburn I can catch up if peeps wanna get rolling and I'm still a few min out. :)

    I'll even bring "Stanley"

    (You'll see)

    Ok, Stanley huh?

i'm not sure if we're going hillockburn or colton yet. i have some other people i know and they are going up there also but don't know what time. they usually go up colton.

but if you want just give me a call if your on your way and i'll try to keep the masses at bay if not i can let you know which wat we're going. at this time it looks like i'm going to be the tour guide though.

  14. What kind of rigs are you going with?

Im short a soob for a while, but i have a 4wd Toyota-stock w/ 31's I might try to get some new treads after work today though

i'm hoping to be in my grey 86 wagon but tags are expired and i would have to go up to my parents on the way to get the new one, they came in the mail yesterday. otherwise my green 84 wagon DD will be my rtrail rig.

yes your toyota is fine, we'll have a mix of rigs anyway. i know atleast 1 maybe 2 jeep cherokees for sure but not sure on what else at this time.

  15. If I'm not hung the heck over too bad I'll be there.
