  1. okay i don't know if this deserves a separate thread or not but can you break something in the transmission from driving around with a welded diff? 2 days after driving around with my welded diff. we went mudding and after that i had a bad vibration that soon ( a day or two) it turned into a crunching sound and the vibration got worst drove it about 2 more days then parked it. was affraid of being stranded.

  2. well snowman, its a suspension lift that me and a couple of guys from work came up with so my bigger tires would fit better so they wouldn't hit the fenders anymore when i hit bumps to go 4 wheeling one weekend. its temporary until i make something better and permenant however it seams to be pretty strong i haven't broke anything yet, except my transmission after i welded the rear end up and went and played in the mud. anyway, i used rancho shock mount bushing for spacers on the front after i knocked out the old strut mount studs and drilled a bigger hole and ran grade 8 bolts all the way through to the body and i adjusted the bottom spring seat all the way up then i sloted the strut towers so that i could align it to stock alignment specs. on the rear i used air bag brackets bolted to the inner fender well where the strut mounts and bolted the struts to the brackets, which was a spacer for the back struts. i have 11 1/4" ground clearance at y-pipe where the 2 header pipes connect, so i have figured that i have around 5-6" of lift from stock which includes the tires. thanks for asking, chaz

Chaz, how did you do your lift? Is it all suspension? Doesn't look like anything I've seen before.
  3. hello, i only have one suby at this time actively looking for another. the specs for my suby wagon are in my signature. i'm not sure how much of a lift i have but i have gained 5" to 6" from the stock height. not a member of any club yet, but i go wheeling with friends from work or alone. there should be a pic in my signature but i will post one just in case. i have other pics in my gallery. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=9402 chaz9402IMG_0028-1-med.jpg

  4. i know this thread is a little old but i'm hoping someone might see this and reply to my question. can driving around everday with a welded diff damage/break something in the transmission/transaxle? my reason for saking is that 2 days after having my diff welded i went out in the mud wheeling and afterwards i got a really bad vibration that got worse and is under accelaration and is now doing a crunching sound when turning and driving straight which comes and goes and is inside the transmission housing. when you are on flatland and at a steady speed it feels normal. now i have checked the cv joints and the wheel bearings and they are good, the only problem i see is the splined stub shafts at the inner cv joint has some play but they have had some for a while but this is much worse and happened in about a 30 minute time frame. it feels like a wheel is coming off or you are driving with a flat tire. so are you saying that cvj or the axle shaft itself will break? please help me understand what this and what might have caused it, if someone can, thanks.:banghead:

  5. wow, maybe i did something wrong, it shows up on mine but i have some in my gallery too . i actually only have one up on the thread reply. i'm new at this, but i do have one on my signature too, its the same one. i wish i could get a pic on my avitar but it says everything is to large.

  6. you don't need to take the rack out to do inner tie rods, you only have to take the outer off completely and then you can replace the inners but you do need a special tool to remove the inners. a thrust angle alignment is a standard alignment for all cars unless you need a 4 wheel alignment which older subies don't need. i wouldn't get new tires unless your old ones are almost bald or wearing funny. i would recommend siping though that will give you better traction in the rain but if you drive on alot of gravel road i wouldn't recommend it, all snow tires come with lots of siping already
