  1. I had a similar problem with my '95 Legacy wagon a few years ago. It would start and run fine from a cold start. If I shut off a hot engine, then it would restart fine. If it was just slightly warm, it wouldn't start until it had cooled completely. Occasionally, it would throw a code, mostly not. I went and got the code read, and it was Crankshaft Position Indicator. The part was around $15, and it took all of 3 minutes to install. Get your codes read! It MAY be something simple like mine.   2. Well, I finally got to actually see the damage. The pipe leading out of the rear cat is broken right where it leaves the cat. There is some spring loaded connection right after the break. A local muffler shop had a generic cat that they could weld a bung in for the oxygen sensor. They would then have welded in a peice of "flex pipe" to replace the spring loaded connection, which is rusted. They want $450 to do this, which is better than the $600 estimate from local mechanic. Any thoughts?
  3. Can someone recommend a good independent Subaru mechanic in my area (19380)? This guy is apparently just going by what the book says are the part numbers. Also, can the shell of the cat be repaired? Would a "generic" cat have a boss for the oxygen sensor?
  4. Hi all, The rear cat on my 95 Legacy wagon cracked. I took it to my regular mechanic, who is still learning his way around Subarus. He told me that my car is built to California emissions standards, even though it was bought new in Delaware. He said the ONLY place to get a cat is from the dealer, for $420, with a total estimate of $580 if the oxygen sensor comes out without breaking. $720 if he has to replace the oxygen sensor. This sounds outrageously high to me. He says that you can't use the non-California cat, as the sizes are not the same. Is he talking PURE bull? The numbers just sound outrageous to me. Is it true that a generic cat will not fit or work? Is there something that I can do that is MUCH less expensive? PLEASE help!
  5. I always thought it was a Renault engine. A friend of mine had one in the mid 80's. Horribly underpowered, and VERY expensive to have work done.
  6. Hi Sweden, I had the exact problem on my 1995 Legacy Wagon (2.2L engine). Replacing the crankshaft position sensor fixed the problem. The guy at AutoZone looked up the make and model and got me the part. I don't know if there are seperate parts for Legacies and Imprezzas that use the same engine. I wish you the best of luck with this. Mine was a pain in the butt untill I replaced the sensor.
  7. The URL only showed the "\engine.htm" when I passed the cursor over it, or "cut and pasted" it into a new tab. The "title" of the URL is independent of the actual address. I fear that you only edited the "title".
  8. I've been usung Mozilla for the past several months, and FireFox since it came out. I'm using v0.9.0, and I don't notice any slowdown. However, IE runs VERY slowly on my machines, as I have had it locked down very heavily for security purposes even before the lastest problems. As for the smileys, they show up for me. The problem I had with your URL was that there wasn't a /engine.htm. When I removed that portion and changed theURL to "http://axispowerracing.net", it worked fine.
  9. I have a 95 Legacy L Wagon,with the 2.2 litre engine, that I acquired last fall. So far (4,000 miles), I have averaged 25 mpg. That is mixed driving on city streets, back country roads, and highways. You would be somewhat foolish to expect more.
  10. Hi all. I've been lurking for a while, but now I have a problem, and I sure hope that you can help me. I did a search, and didn't find anything. I have a '95 Legacy L Wagon 80,000 miles, with 2.2L engine and 5MT. I bought it last fall from my brother. Today, while I was running errands, it refused to start. It would crank over, but no spark. A few minutes later, it started, but I had a CEL. I went to AutoZone, and they said it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I had the exact same thing happen a couple of months ago. Now that it had happened twice, I am worried about it. Will this continue to happen until I replace the sensor? Should I just replace the sensor, or there some other thing causing the sensor to read bad? Should I try to clean the sensor, or just replace? Thanks in advance for any and all help that you can give me.
  11. I put the tweeter kit in my 1995 Legacy wagon shortly after I bought it from my brother a couple of months ago. It SEEMED to make a difference. For $15 and 10 minutes of my time, it was worth finding out. I will probably replace the stock head unit and the speakers in the spring Since it doesn't cost much, or take much time; my $.02 is GO FOR IT!
