  1. I've had my ecoboost long enough to know that gas turbos are savage performers but the MPG's may very lack from what the manufacturer states. Mine has been close, many are not.
  2. Anyone wish to compare this engine tot he 2.5L boxer? Obviously one is a GTDI and the 2.5 is an N/A engine but, how's the maintenance and longevity on the smaller boxer? I'm not concerned about GTDI as I have an Ecoboost F-150 with amazing results. Is the fuel economy disappointing or are there some inherent repair concerns? Truth be told, i don't need a turbo engine but the ecoboost has been invigorating to say the least. Thank you for any input.
  3. ^^^^^ Awesome post and very honest sir, thank you. My current vehicles include a 2011 f-150 Ecoboost with no issues at 67K miles, a 2004 Expedition with no issues at 112K miles and a 2010 Ford Focus at 61K miles an no issues. Each vehicle has enjoyed a 5K mile dump cycle and the Expy has had two Trans flushes and a coolant flush. I'm a maintenance freak and chase every little thing that squeaks. There are a ton of Subies on my mail route and EVERYONE is completely happy. But, these folks are a bit older than I (i'm 55) and they don't crawl around on the ground to inspect for issues.
  4. So, looking at cars101, I've been able to find the typical maintenance schedule for the newer cars but it seems to end around 2010. When I make my purchase, I'm buying new and most likely a Forester or Crosstek, basically the same car anyway. I'm pretty intrigued with the 2.5L boxer but the maintenance seems to be a lot more frequent than on my 2011 F-150 except for the Subaru Blue coolant. I have to ask another newbie question and not trying to strike a nerve, but, are the boxers a good or a great engine? Have they trended in either direction over the years? I've heard that the new CVT transmission is somewhat quirky as compared to the older transmissions. Any input would be appreciated. When I buy a vehicle, I consider it to be at least a 10 year / 150K mile investment. Please discuss.
  5. Wow, 26 views and no input. i either struck a nerve or it's actually not an issue. Lets hope that it's not an issue. New subject.
  6. Is rust an issue on the new Subarus? I've heard certain years / generations were rust prone but no one could really prove their claim. Discuss?
  7. It's easy to get spooked when a product recall is in place or a major failure has been identified and the vehicle is rendered not safe to drive by the manufacturer. All vehicles fail but what's important to consider here is how Subaru has taken ownership of the situation and offered repairs and even loaners without the customer base having to demand such treatment. Kudos to Subaru.
  8. I come here humble and with very little knowledge of Subaru's amazing product. I don't currently own one nor have I ever owned one but I wish to learn more and change that ownership status in about a year. I've been a Ford enthusiast all of my life and I can say that they have produced an amazing vehicle that has always fit my needs, my budget and has proven themselves to be reliable. I will still own Ford products. My questions and my contributions here will be like baby steps, please be patient with me and I will endeavor to meld with what I hope to be an amazing group of enthusiasts.
