  1. My mistake. I went through my owners manual and the security system booklet and it didn't say how to get rid of the horn chirp. I just cant remember exactly where I read how to do it. But it can be done, I did it. I'll try to remember and I post it.
  2. I think you have to hold both buttons down on the key fob for a certain number of seconds. It was in the owners manual I think.
  3. We have the exact same model Legacy and we got 27-28 mpg on our last road trip and around 20 mpg in town.
  4. In my opinion, it really doesn't matter as long as it gets done regularly. I don't believe one way is any better than the other.
  5. Excuse me if this is a dumb question. Is there a way to keep the automatic electric radio antena in the UP position when shutting off our 99 Legacy? In the mornings here ice forms over the top off the antena in the down position and I can't always get it scraped off or don't have time. I can hear the motor trying to put it up but its frozen over. I don't want to damage the motor or anything. Thanks--Dave
  6. When were steel belted tires introduced to Austrailia? 20 years ago? A lot has changed since then. It used to be with steel belted radials, you couldn't swap tires side to side. Thats even recommened by tire manufactures now. All these years after the introduction of steel belted tires, there ar a lot of myths. The best PSI for you tires(if they are a recommended size for the car) is what the CAR manufacturer has stated in the owners mannual or stamped somewhere on the car. In most cases, tire makers don't know what particular tire is going on what make of car. The car maker does many miles of testing and knows what tire and psi will work best for the intended purpose of the car. To make a blanket statement of what psi to run in every tire regaurdless of car make and tire size is based purley on personal experience or ignorance, however it may work out. There are exceptions to this, and many you have probably had great results in adjusting the psi in your tires to suit your needs and experiences. Good for you. I'll stick to Subaru's recommendation for tire pressures.
  7. What size are the tires? If they are 205/55/16 like on my 99 Legacy GT, I run 32f and 30r like the door jamb says. Works and rides perfectly.
  8. No, its its not the piston slap. It does do that too, but it goes away when the motor's warm. This tick does not. Thanks anyway.--Dave
  9. Today I noticed a ticking sound from the engine of our 99 2.5 Legacy GT with 60K miles on it. It is more noticeable from under the front of the car than from the top of the motor. I've thought it has had an exhaust leak for a long time now but it never sounded like this. Could the lifters be making this sound with so few miles on it? Just trying to get a few thoughts from you all before I take it in. Thanks -------------Dave
  10. What most people don't realize about the tires that come new on thier car is that they are usually not the some tire you can get in the aftermarket. Most tire companies make two kinds of tires; OEM and aftermarket. The tires you get on your new car are made for the manufactuerer and simply ride and handle nice. They usually don't last as long as those you get at the tire shop. Michelin may be the exception. Their OEM tires seem to do well. After working in a tire shop for many years, it seem like most OEM tires for most car makes last about 30K-45K miles. Just my experience. Most Michelins rot away before thier tread wears out(if its not a performance tire) and have very, very few complaints. I'm a Michelin man all the way.
  11. We have 53K miles on our 99 legacy GT 2.5. Our car suffers from the folowing: The infamous hesitation cause by an over sensitve knock sensor(most likely) An engine vibration at 1500-3000 RPM(seems like a miss) Exhaust leak that I can't find. All of these problems have been diagnosed as "normal" by the dealer. They suck. Other than that I like the way the car handles and rides. The AWD is great. Other than the problems above, the car is pretty much flawless. I probably would buy another Subaru, just not with the 2.5 motor. Dave
  12. Our GT needs some new tires(205/55/16) before this winter and I was wondering what some of your guys opinions might be as to what to get. I would really like to get Michelins but the price is a little high for our budget right now. All I'm really looking for is a tire that ballances well and stays that way, and one that's good in snow. I don't need high performance tires like V rated or anything, just good H rated is all I need. Thanks---------------Dave
