  1. Its definetly oily and with a yellowish tint... Like oil. The only moving part that comes to mind in there is the wipers... I'll have a look. Thanks. S.
  2. In the process of adding keyless entry to my 2000 legacy today I got oil on my hands by touching a metal bracket. It is a bracket holding a horizontal 2 inch diameter shinny steel rod going accross the dash behind the glove box. What is it? A bit big for a freon pipe? Anywhere else the oil could be comming from? I do not think I am loosing freon based on my AC performance. Thanks, Seb
  3. Indeed. It is a 2000... The front bumber might not be the "original" 2000 style as I had an encounter with a deer about a year ago and the front was completely redone. I like the look of yours with those lights on the front  Seb
  4. Thanks! If I understand well, there are two types of adjustments then. One right at the drum and the other for the cable lengths in the console. Can the adjustement at the drum be done without removing the disk/drum assembly? Seb.
  5. Just replaced rear rotors and pads on my Legacy Wagon. Everything seemed fine until yesterday when I started hearing a squeal on the highway. Especially when turning left. Upon closer inspection my rear left break was very hot. Not the caliper but the center drum section which houses the e-brake. The wheel still rotated freely when pushed in neutral. Now did I miss doing something with the e-brake when I replaced the disks? Do they need some sort of adjusting or again need some lube? The handbrake doesn't feel tight at all... Thanks for any info! Sébastien
  6. About a month ago my engine got rebuilt because of a colision with a deer which blew the timing belt hence the engine. I took the opportunity and had the clutch replaced since it had always suffered from clutch shudder and they were gonna take it appart anyways... Now since this repair, and many trips to the dealer, I get this burning rubber smell in the car once in a while. I had all the straps checked and the dealer was unable to reproduce the smell. He even replaced the AC compressor because its pulley was not dissagenging properly... Now I observed that the smell usually happens when I do alot of declutching such as in traffic, or parking the car. The old clutch never did that and I consider that I have good "clutch technic" and do not let it slip unecessarily. The question is, did the dealer misadjust something? Could the clutch be faulty? I don't know if the clutch is Hydrolic on this car. Could it have something to do with the hydrolic pump if that is the case? The car is a 2000 Legacy Wagon. Thanks for any insight! Seb
  7. If you PM me you e-mail address, I can send you a PDF I got off this site a few months ago... Seb
  8. On my 2000 Legacy Wagon L (Canadian) I am 100% sure. Although if it is in the feet/defrost position, then I have to manually turn it on just like your manual says. The dash is not too complicated to take appart. You have to start from the shifter. You pull around the stick shift and the piece will pop out. This will reveal two screws at the bottom of the dash. Remove these and also the two screws hidden in the top of the ashtray. The little bin will be free to remove and so will the metal ashtray holder. Then it is a matter of pulling everything out carefully. I worked from bottom to top then left to right. I had to pull a bit hard to get the part where the cupholder is out. After that you'll have access to all the console modules and be able to unscrew them and pull em out. Seb
  9. Be aware the the AC is always on when the selector is in the defrosting position. This might explain why you feel its on whether or not the button is pressed. Also, at stand still, you should be able to "hear" if the AC on. The compressor and Fan will turn on intermitently making noise and also causing a slight dip in RPM. If you need info on how to take your dash appart let me know I've just replaced my radio on the 2000 so had to go through this... Seb
  10. Anyone knows what is normal oil consumption for a 2000 Legacy wagon? I change the oil every 6000 Km as recomended, and rarelly make it without having to add oil. Just took a long trip and had to add 1L of oil after driving 5500Km... Dealer says its normal, but I just wanted to check with others. My old car (mazda) would run 15000Km on synthetic and not use a drop, so do Subaru engine burn oil by design? BTW there is no visible leeking. Thanks, Seb
