  1. Hm ok that seems simple enough. Is there anything like spline count or something I need to match up? Or if I just get an ea82 power steering joint it'll bolt in?
  2. How would you put the outback coupler in he ea81?
  3. Ok awesome. Fabrication and metal work is out of my realm a bit. Could I just go get a scrap metal 1inch shaft the same diameter and call it good? Or do I need a certain grade of metal like how bolts are measured? But I'd probably have to find someone to do it for me or if I can buy a shaft already extended from someone because I don't have the equipment to do it myself.
  4. That's the exact piece I'm trying to fix. I Might as well do that and try and find a second one to have just in case as well. Any idea what that piece is called? Or is it just a shift linkage piece? I already have bushings for everything else as well
  5. Hey everyone, I'm in the process of fixing the shifter slop in my 87 ea81 gl hatchback 4 speed, 4wd. I got down to the actual shaft coming out of the transmission the shifter attaches to to drill and tap the hole to get rid of the slop. Well when I got down there, it seems that someone before me already drilled and tapped it to thread a bolt through it, and it still has a tremendous amount of slop. How do I go about fixing this now? Do I try and locate a new shaft and sleeve? Or just drill it again? Is there something else I can do on top of the bolt through the shaft? I found on rock auto a part they call a "shift shaft repair sleeve" that came up under the transmission for this car to, but it doesn't have a picture to show what the part actually is. Has anyone used one of those? It's $22 so I thought I may order it and see what it is. The picture is where I'm at now. The shaft I'm trying to repair is the one coming out of the transmission on the side.
  6. Do you have a picture of a cut and welded ea81 steering shaft? Or what goes into modifying the shaft? Or is it really as simple as cutting the shaft in half and getting another length to weld in the middle? I was already planning on ordering the sjr 2 inch lift. Just need to know what else goes into installing and making sure everything works
  7. Bump from the dead. Was wondering if the question about the 2 inch lift kit for an ea81 needs to have the steering shaft extended and if a different factory steering shaft would work on an ea81. Seems the links showed an ea82
  8. Hello everyone, I'm Andrew from Auburn Washington. Going to automotive school and working as a express tech at the local Subaru dealership. I recently picked up an 87 ea81 gl hatchback, (which is the main reason I came to the forum, the daily is a 98 Forester). Also couldn't get a picture to load from my phone, but Hopefully soon I'll be able to post some! I lucked out on finding a very clean gl with almost no body rot and got an extra engine trans and box of parts for $1000 Looking forward to modding and rebuilding my ea81 and to tap you guys for some knowledge on these old subies.
