  1. Hey guys and gals... I appreciate the help that is provided on this site. I am new to it and find it awesome. 2001 Legacy GT Wagon has a buzz from the under carraige of the car on acceleration . Shop tells me it is common ... heat shield? The sound is annoying. makes the car sound cheap. ANy suggestions ?
  2. Thanks Milz... I will check it out. I have to admit that I am concerned with allseasons not coming thru in the crunch but I will have a look.
  3. what would be your suggestion for a nice winter /summer combo. I have a 2001 Legacy wagon GT and the Potenza's are needing to be replaced.(thank god ) I had one person recommend Yokohama V4 all seasons but I drive in an area that can get snow and the roads are mountainous. I am thinking of buying winters mounted on steel rims and then some nice summer performance tires mounted on the nice GT wheels next summer. The challenge is making the right move. The winter tire is confusing enough. Do I go Snow or ice. I would think Ice and the roads around here would be plowed regularlly and then leaving hard pack conditions and black ice. I would appreciate your suggestion.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion. I thought Blizzaks were Michelins... no ?
  5. Thanks... I love the idea of going all season for cost purposes but was not sure if I was going to receive adequate snow/ice traction out of an all season.... The V4s are suppose to be good in the snow/ice? good to know. I wonder how much difference there would be between the V4 all season and say a Blizzak winter tire...
  6. The original Potenza tires on my 2001 Legacy Wagon GT have little life left. I want to buy some winter rims and mount some winter tires and then next summer put some nice summer performance radials on the Suburu rims. Question... Could someone suggest a good winter tire for the SUB ( Ice or Snow ?) and a good summer tire for next year ? Thanks guys..
  7. Thanks for this info... I realize we are now looking at Spring but I have to buy snow tires for TWO cars and this little article from an unbaised source is excellent... Thanks from the great white North.
  8. Could not agree more... proud owner of 2001 Legacy GT wagon with auto.
  9. Greetings ! I am responding because I just went through the exact process you did. I looked at the vw tdi wagon , I looked at small suv's and finally found the cat's meow. I bought a 2001 Legacy GT wagon 4cyl automatic with only 39,000km. That is around 25,000 miles I believe for you Yankee Doodle dandies. In Canada we get our fair share of winter as you know, hence the decision to go with the Subaru. The more internet research I did the less I wanted a VW due to maintenance issues. Jetta's do not score well on customer satisfaction. They are good drive trains but annoying electrical problems etc.. have caused many pissed off customers. Subaru? Hard pressed to find a bad review. I just bought mine (it is in the shop getting professionally detailed right now) but I can say I was grinning all the way home from the dealer where I bought it as I got an excellent deal. I really suggest you go Subaru and avoid the VW. My two cents.
  10. Thanks dude... I was thinking the exact same approach... get the balancing and alignment done..(wife's brother is a mechanic) and see what happens from there. I have been doing so research and have found that the bridgestones that are on the vehicle suck and don't last long at all. I'm thinking new rubber. Re stereo ... I have a bid in on a cd changer. I have the car in a shop right now getting it professionally detailed.
  11. Greetings... new to the site so hello to all. I just bought a 2001 Legacy GT today and very happy overall with purchase. Vehicle only has 39,000 Km on it. Some old guy leased it from new and obviously didn't drive much... but the tires show a fair amount of wear and the vehicle has a little shimmy at 65 mph or higher.. does the vehicle need alignment or just new tires ? Question 2. I thought the vehicle had a cd player because there is a cd button on the stereo but when I went to put a cd in I realized it only takes cassette? Why the cd button? If I buy a stock subaru cd changer will it then play cds?
