  1. This is a continuation of topic but could not figure out how to photo for a member inquiry. Part is Hitachi AESU128 34 possibly subaru number 14774A080. As in a 2015 inquiry from someone, the plastic vacuum hose connector is cracked off. Top of two solenoid valves ? Side connector snapped probably years ago when rebuilt was installed by mechanic. I am owner and trying to get it smogged and stationary idle lowered. My photos, especially decent ones will probably be too large. know computers about as poorly as automobiles but have had this one since 1984 december. Found two photos small enough but quality iffy. Guess only one is attaching, not sure which one. My computer shows as 2.0 mb but website says still too big. Second one same size but accepted.
  2. Not computer savvy so cannot get back to a thread I was reading. Has anyone yet found part supplier for solenoid valve AESU128-34. Little connector piece broken on mine. Probably happened years ago when mechanic changed out carb. Has always idled high since but ran perfect otherwise. Now has to go thru Ca smog check legally and took 3 months of not finding where dangling hose belonged and one good smog check fellow to point out the broken connection. Said "get another'. Dealer has no leads.
  3. On my 93, from parents, have not had functioning A/C for years. No one can repair it. So have not used the blower fan all summer. Now it only comes on at level 2. I am not good at this computer stuff. Saw a posting via google with a photo I could not enlarge. Now on the website I cannot find it on the forum. Went thru 7 of 1448 pages suggested. Noticed someone said relays and resistors behind glovebox but the other contact said on driver side near wheel well. Just changed the resistor and some other part on my 07 Chevy and thought this to be as easy to inspect for damage. Nope. Tried a spray into the slide area but that only made it slide easier. Anyone know the location ? Going back out now to get frustrated on the 85 GL that has another problem.
  4. Looks like my text disappeared when clicked on basic uploader option. Won't repeat except to say photo has portion of original hose on left minus broken area I snipped off to recover a metal restrictor in bend at end unsure of where it connects. Other stuff is adaptation to use the metal restrictor piece that was at breakage. Was bent at both ends; a bit unusual from others I see.
  5. Okay. Last input for now. My old manual is a Haynes. Will try to attach some pictures. Not real easy to see and I should have marked points of question with colored tape. This is the 85 manual 1.8 with high but smooth idle when in neutral. After initial input, I was replacing the hose with the constrictor in place when I noticed a second disconnected hose, this one not broken but unattached. Cannot find an unused attachment area currently not caped. Idle still is high. After third carb was installed, it ran great for awhile. Then at some time the idle bumped up. Somewhere about same time, I moved and while in transit car stalled out and was towed. No answers so towed back to old mechanic who discovered the first universal Cat Converter installed a couple of years earlier, and which he had previouslysaid was not a correct model, was plugged. He removed the plug material but could do no more for health reasons. I was taking car for new converter months ago but front end (all original) could not handle the long drive to city so I had local mechanic here re build the front end. Then went in to city and got a proper fit converter. But idle still high. Smog individual I use here, said check vacuum hoses before bringing as high idle will fail. This is the third carb as the second one, much like the second Cat, was never a good fit. Don't know if I need to worry about finding all attachment areas or if some might not be in use ,and I should move on. But would like to have at least the one correct. Under hood diagram shows about half the number of hoses I see. Unattached hose from driver side view is lower left with clamp wire. Other was from bottom of SDLS30-20 'thing'. Photo from passenger side will try in another post.
  6. Another input comment on 85 GL. I don't know if the two types of carbs are interchangeable. There are two places where rubber push on caps are in the same vicinity. One is on a metal attachment immediately adjacent to a similar structure with a hose attached but the size appears larger than my smaller broke hose with the restriction inside. The other is within a weird wired structure with two metal stabilizers . I'll try to get a picture and then see if I am able to post that.
  7. This is a continuation but could not figure out how to accomplish that on website. Too many struggles at once. Have the 85 with smooth running but high idle in neutral. Thought I had made a good fit with transfering the hose constrictor which seems to be a short metal piece within the hose into the modified replacement contraption and idle dropped from 1500 to 1200. But then was doing more snooping and found another disconnected hose. This one looks disconnected not broke and by it's length needs to fit only air cleaner where I thought the broken one belonged. With that hook up change the car runs about the same but now I have a hose without a noticeable attachment place. Problem is the idle has been like this for 2 yrs. but only now need to pass emissions and had Cat replaced thinking that busted one (old mechanic smashed it when it plugged up) was the only problem. Maybe bad hosing since mechanic last changed the carb. And so whatever may have been at the other end would be dusty and gunky and not obvious. Almost got air cleaner off but vision still restricted. There is a small plastic round 'wafer' that the broken hose was hooked on to. Reads SDLS30-20 Hitachi manufacturer. Although the general picture in my old Chilton Guide shows correctly in direction to remove air cleaner, no other diagrams make adequate sense, including hose diagram under hood. It seems to lack half the connections. That other disconnected hose that I now think goes to cleaner pipe traces with another around brake fluid reservoir and into dash area. Thinking I'll temporarily plug the mystery one to see what happens. As I mentioned previously this is the third carb. First went about 25 yrs. and next was from Florida and never ran good and failed about 3 yrs. later. This one always was a good match. Have no idea wheather it is a Hitachi or Weber.

  9. Excuse me. Baby Boomer who knows not how to converse in a forum, or any tech fashion. Getting desperate as young mechanics have never seen a carbureted vehicle. Love my first new car, 85 FWD/4WD GL wagon 1.8. Cannot get to pass smog with high idle in neutral. New Cat Converter and replaced a broken vacuum hose. Could not even remove air cleaner as it is stuck on. Is on 3rd carburetor and last mechanic to work on it said idle set as low as possible. I've moved and he may have passed away by now. Smog inspector suggested vacuum problem but cannot really converse due to rules. Read about a possible Intake Manifold Gasket leak.Idles and runs smooth all the time and gas mileage not changed. Have yet to find someone here who knows carbs and it may be unrelated? Idle starts at the 700-800 it is supposed to, but immediately increases for warmup, BUT never drops back down. But if put in first on flat ground it will move out at the 800 rpm , only to rev up to 1500 each time the clutch is disengaged or parked in neutral. High idle was 1300 before a snapped vacuum hose was replaced. If anyone has an idea I hope I can find the communication ! Every comment I found online speaker to idle dropping too low when taken out of neutral but my car is opposite. Perfect under power but smooth and too high to get smog test when in neutral.
