  1. Well, I just found a good 95 to use, with egr, but I'd still like to know if someone out there could point me in the right direction for a list. Seems like it would be a very useful sticky.
  2. Hi, tried to search but 2.2 and EGR wouldn't work. I'm wondering what year/model/trans had 2.2 with EGR. Doesn't matter if I have swap the Y-pipe. I know the 95 legacy 5 speed had one, but they are getting hard to find. Any others? Or other ways to do it? Also wondering if a 2.2 will swap into a 99 OBW. I know the 99's were an odd year. Thanks for the help!
  3. 1999 2.2 Legacy, automatic, 100K, the speedo is not working and the tranny will not drop into fourth/overdrive even when warm on the highway. Stays up at about 4000 rpm to do about 60/65 mph. No CEL. Searched all over the boards and couldn't find any connection. Couldn't find anyone with just fourth gear out. Hoping it's the VSS speed sensor. ?? Any ideas would be apreciated.
  4. Pull your thermostat out to keep the pressure from building. Try to keep your rpm's below 3000 and you could last a long time. Worked well for me. Good luck.
  5. I'm looking for a black hood for a 2002 GT wagon, which is turning into a difficult task, but I'm also looking for a good supply of random parts from somewhere other than car-part.com (though they are a great resource). Anyone recommend any other off-the-radar sources for Subie stuff? Thanks.
  6. OK, I did it. 3 nuts on the Forester. Hairdryer blowing hot into the inside for a couple of minutes, steady firm prying pressure out and the black goo lets go just fine. And there was plenty of goo on the salvage yard replacement to just warm it up and press it back in. Thanks for all the help folks!
  7. Hmmmm. Ok, sounds a little extreme, but I'll try some heat tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.
  8. Have a 98 Forester with a broken tailight lens. Took a couple of 8mm (3) nuts off the inside, tried prying, doesn't seem to want to let loose. I don't want to break more stuff. Anybody done this? Please advise. Thanks!
  9. I second that. And I get it shipped to Ohio. Still the best deal and best service. Wouldn't shop anywhere else.
  10. Primary check: Put your nose in the plastic overflow tank. Smell exhaust/oil/gas? Subtract $1500 from the price. (and even if you don't smell anything but antifreeze, you know those head gaskets will blow soon.)
  11. Put a 2000 5-speed in and it worked fine. So glad. Rear end is the same in all Foresters through '04. Also want to mention an engine swap that a friend did, 95 2.2 into a 98 Forester, worked fine too. Noticable lack of pep though. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
  12. 99 Manual trans is shot. They are hard to find and pricey. Can I rig a 98 Forester 5-speed or an 00-01 5 speed tranny into it?? There are lots of them and they're cheap. Maybe have to take 4 of the engine bolts out? Anyone tried swapping one out? Swap swap. Thanks for any ideas.
  13. go to wal-mart, buy a can of recharge for $12 with a coupling on the end. DIY doesn't get much easier than this. If you have a problem with Wally-World, go to Auto-zone and pay twice as much.
  14. Anyone know if this will work? 95 legacy 2.2 has dual port exhaust and EGR. (Got it originaly to swap into a 97 OBW) I have a dual port Y-pipe (from the legacy) if the Impreza is single, but are the lengths/fit the same? If you've done this operation or if you at least know if the 99 2.2 is single or dual port exhaust, it would help me out to hear about it. Muchas gracias.
  15. That's the info I was looking for. Let me know what you find out about the wiring. Thanks.
  16. I searched around but couldn't find anything on this. Problem: the 2.2 I bought has no egr on the manifold. has dual exhaust ports, but how do I remedy the egr issue when swapping into the 96? Any related wiring issues? Also, the 2.2 is from a 5 speed and the 96 is an auto. That OK? Thanks for the help.
